Inmate threatens Cpt. Amrinder on FB
/0 Comments/in PUNJAB/by Demokratic Front BureauIn yet another case of lax security inside Faridkot’s Modern Jail, an inmate went live on Facebook for about three minutes and made objectionable remarks against Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, DGP Suresh Arora and Jail Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa. The inmate, Gobind Singh, who has been lodged at Faridkot jail since April, also threatened the CM, saying his countdown had begun and Akal Purakh (God) had assigned him this duty.
In the video, Govind, who hails from village Mari Bhaini, Faridkot, also charged Amarinder Singh for making a false pledge in a Bathinda rally to end the drug menace in Punjab before the Vidhan Sabha elections. “You (CM) should go to the Golden Temple and apologise for taking a false pledge. Drugs are rampant in Punjab. They are readily available everywhere and my brothers and sisters are falling prey to drugs,” Govind says in the video.
The inmate further said he had to send out the message through Facebook as he didn’t have the phone numbers of the CM or DGP. “Otherwise, I would have called them directly,” he says. Govind then goes on to rant about the lack of facilities and water scarcity in the jail. “Baba Farid society of Faridkot must provide water supply for inmates if they see this video,” Govind says.
Stating that the gurudwara in the jail premises had limited arrangements, Govind asked Amarinder to visit the place himself to take a stock of the condition. “There needs to be a bed for Guru Granth Sahib and flooring needs to be done. A langar should also be organised inside the jail,” he asserts.
Taking cognizance of the video, Faridkot police lodged an FIR against Gobind and another inmate Kuldeep Singh who recorded the remarks. Faridkot SSP Dr Nanak Singh said police was inquiring as to how internet facility was available inside the jail along with the mobile phone. Gobind has three cases against him, including a murder and another of attempt to murder, while Kuldeep Singh has an NDPS case against him. Both have been booked under 42 and 52A of Prison Act, confirmed SSP Faridkot.
In the past 6 months, over 50 mobiles have been seized from Faridkot jail. In November 2017, gangster-turned-social activist Lakha Sidhana had also gone live on Facebook from jail and asked farmers not to burn paddy stubble. In April this year, five pictures of Bhola “Shooter” celebrating his birthday inside the jail were posted on Facebook.

/0 Comments/in POLITICS, SPIRITUAL/by Demokratic Front Bureau
Sisodia accused Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash over sluggishness
/0 Comments/in SPIRITUAL/by Demokratic Front BureauThe Delhi government has decided to raise the issue of “non-cooperation” of bureaucrats in the High Court, after some senior officials did not turn up for Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia’s inspection of the Signature Bridge. In a note, Sisodia accused Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash of not heeding repeated written instructions on completion of the project. Prakash sought to clarify saying the minister was “factually incorrect”.
According to a report signed by Sisodia, when he inspected the site on May 22, officials including PWD secretary Manoj Parrida, tourism secretary Dilraj Kaur, DTTDC managing director Shurbir Singh did not turn up despite being served “notices”. Prakash told The Indian Express, “I also held the meeting to sort out the issues facing the project on May 22. The minutes will go to him. We have also acted on his earlier notes and he has seen the files.”
Parrida, who heads Home, PWD and Urban Development departments, told The Indian Express that the special secretary (PWD) and engineer-in-chief had accompanied Sisodia. “I could not go as I was holding an important meeting. The court order was not for me specifically,” he said.
“In any case, the PWD is preparing a memo for the next meeting of the Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) on the project. And we expect the revised estimates to be cleared within a week,” Parrida, who is also the link officer of the transport department, added. The construction of the bridge, already delayed by eight years, has come to a halt due to fund crunch, the Deputy Chief Minister’s note said.
He wrote that the inspection was undertaken on the directions of the High Court to sort out bottlenecks plaguing the project. “The presence of these senior IAS officers is absolutely essential and in case they were pre-occupied with some other official engagement, they should have had the courtesy of talking to my office and reschedule the visit.” Accusing Prakash of not heeding his repeated written instructions, Sisodia stated, “I am constrained to point out the careless attitude of the highest officer of the Delhi government in a project which is being monitored by the Delhi High Court.” The report will be placed in the court on July 13.
Anti-BJP front ???
/0 Comments/in NATIONAL, POLITICS/by Demokratic Front BureauThe recent remarks by former PM and JD(S) supremo Deve Gowda that his party’s alliance with the Congress is limited to the Vidhana Soudha, drives another nail in the coffin of the much-touted
The front had been a major talking point as regional leaders, along with the Congress, made a show of bonhomie at the swearing in of Gowda’s son HD Kumaraswamy as Karnataka Chief Minister. But it didn’t take too long for the facade to crack. Kumaraswamy continues to fire one salvo after another (daily) at the state alliance, claiming that he is at the ‘mercy of the Congress’ and that he is ‘more beholden to them’ than the people of Karnataka. It isn’t just Kumaraswamy.
Despite publicly hugging Sonia Gandhi at the swearing in, BSP supremo Mayawati made it clear to her partymen that unless they got a ‘respectable’ number of seats in an alliance, they should be prepared to go alone. Though SP leader Akhilesh Yadav has played down her remarks, stating that alliance talks were very much on, Mayawati’s remarks show that she is prepared to drive a hard bargain, one that the SP may not accept.
Then in South India, though Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has stated that the BJP and PM Narendra Modi will not come to power in 2019, his loaded statement that he would decide on who would get to be the PM suggests that he may not support a Congress PM. Given the pathetic performance of the Grand Old Party in election after election, Naidu is not likely to be alone in rejecting a Congress PM. What this means is, regional leaders, each with their own personal agendas and ambitions – jostling to be PM – will sink an anti-BJP front well before 2019.
The other problem for any anti-BJP alliance is that apart from the Congress, Left or Mamata Banerjee’s TMC, most parties do not regard the BJP as untouchable. Despite the anti-BJP rhetoric, the feeling that Kumaraswamy would have preferred an alliance with the saffron party in Karnataka, rather than the Congress, refuses to go away. The same is true for Naidu. Though the Andhra leader has pulled out of the NDA because of the BJP’s refusal to grant special category status to his state, politics is a gamble and deals could be worked out, should the BJP seek to woo back the TDP. Already, the right noises are being made
Shimla gone out of water in scorching heat
/0 Comments/in Uncategorized/by Demokratic Front Bureau
Shimla is witnessing a major water crisis during peak tourist season with taps running dry for the eighth day in most parts of the city, forcing people to buy water at exorbitant prices and smaller hotels to cancel bookings even as drinking water supply in the Queen of Hills fell to less than 50% of requirements, courtesy a dry winter.
On Sunday night, about 100 people staged a midnight sit-in protest outside the waterworks office on the main Mall Road and the police stopped them from heading towards the residence of chief minister Jai Ram Thakur, who on Monday constituted a committee headed by chief secretary Vineet Chowdhary to monitor daily water supply.
/0 Comments/in HARYANA, POLITICS, TRICITY/by Demokratic Front Bureauचंडीगढ,29मई।
