Kirron approves 85.65 Lacs for LPG Crematorium

M.P. Chandigarh – Kirron Kher

Local member of Parliament Kirron Kher has sanctioned Rs 85.65 lakh from MP Development Fund (MPLAD) for LPG crematorium.

The cremation ground in Sector 25 will soon start operating on environment-friendly LPG. The LPG crematorium will prove to be more convenient and cost-effective over conventional wood and electricity-based crematorium. Kher will lay the foundation stone of the project on July 3. The municipal corporation has completed the tender process for installing the LPG machine and after the foundation stone is laid, work will be started. This machine will be operational by the second week of September. In many cities, the funeral is already done through LPG gas. It was started sometime back in Patiala too.

According to officials, it has been observed that the traditional method of performing last rites uses around four-quintal wood. On the other hand, LPG-based cremations will require only one LPG cylinder. The LPG crematorium creates less pollution. LPG is a cheaper alternative also. In crematoriums where wood is used, cremation costs range between Rs 3,000 and Rs 4,000 as compared to Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000 for LPG-based cremating chamber. Also, in such a crematorium, the whole cremation process is completed in just 90 minutes. Officials say that using wood to burn bodies adds to deforestation. Moreover, smoke emitting from pyres is a big cause of pollution. Our aim is to have an eco-friendly cremation system in place.
