UGC-Human Resource Development Centre(HRDC), Panjab University, Chandigarh is conducting a 3-days (9 Hours) Short Term Faculty Development Programme for 35 teachers of Colleges and University from different States and UTs.

The theme is “Developing Academic Skills of Reviewing” and various topics to be discussed by resource persons from premier institutes would be – Writing peer reviews, Writing review articles and Evaluating thesis and dissertation.

Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University delivered the inaugural session and spoke about the significance of such short programmes on quality enhancement of the academia. He shared his own experiences of getting trained in academic skills and expressed his expectation that the participants will take home practical skills to do good research and to be disseminated in the classrooms.

Prof. S.K. Tomar, Honorary Director, HRDC, Panjab University spoke to the participants on the necessity of new faculty needs to be trained in review skills so that they become competent in critical thinking, problem solving and become confident reviewers and evaluators themselves.

Humour is a tax-free tonic amidst stress, strain and strife with its evergreen impact on one’s mind, says Dr. Ali Abbas, Coordinator of the department of Urdu, Panjab University, Chandigarh while speaking at the 5th Online meeting of Bazm-e-Adab organised by the department. He said that humour created by a satire either in verse or prose was for the enjoyment of all. Literature of all the known languages had produced grant satire and satire and satirists whose very mention was able enough to bring a cheerful smile on the lips of all. Sometimes tactfully arranged words can clinch the desired results without firing a bullet or resorting to agitations,Dr. Ali Abbas added.

In her presidential remarks Prof. (Retd.) Rehana Parveen, highlighted the all-important role played by satires in the development, spread and popularisation of Urdu literature and language in India and abroad.

Mr Papu Ram, a research scholar of the department of Urdu presented his paper on the topic “Satires in the modern Urdu literature” elaborating the age old traditions of satires in Urdu literature and further enriched by Mirza Ghalib, Rattanlal Sarshar, Mohamad Azad, Patras Bukhari, Kanhayalal kapur, Patras Bukhari, Yusuf Nazim, Mujtaba Husain and others.

Mr.Zaheer Haider, a research scholar in the department of Urdu, proposed  the vote of thanks.

Workshop on “Brush Strokes” at UIFT & VD, PU

Chandigarh May 13, 2021

University Institute of Fashion Technology & Vocational Development (UIFT & VD), Panjab University, Chandigarh organized a two days online workshop on fabric painting titled ‘Brush Strokes’. Around 60 students from M.Sc. and B.Sc. Fashion and Lifestyle Technology participated in this workshop. 

This workshop involved ornamentation of fabric surface with colours. At the onset of the workshop, Resource person Mrs. Santosh Verma,an artist and a freelancer, elaborated  about fabric painting on different surfaces and products. She gave an online live demonstration on numerous techniques. Beautiful outcomes with the effect of shibori;  tape masking creating different shapes on the surface was practiced by students on a variety of products. Not only fabric painting but bangle making utilising left over fabrics was another added feature of this workshop.  Ms Kirti, Faculty with UIFT, coordinated this workshop. 

Dr Anu H. Gupta, Chairperson UIFT & VD remarked that these skills can help participants in future to create their own products/label and market these on a digital platform. The participants actively participated in the workshop, experimented with techniques and prepared samples as well as products like T-shirts, head bands, bandana, bangles etc. Shivani Singh, one of the participants said, “It was a really fantastic and informative workshop. I have really loved the way it has been conducted. This workshop will help us a lot in our professional and personal life. We can also think of our own start-ups .Waiting for more workshops like this in future”.

पूर्व डिप्टी सीएम चंद्रमोहन के प्रयासों से अभिभावकों को मिली बड़ी राहत,अब निजी स्कूल छात्रों पर नही थोप सकेंगे प्राइवेट प्रकाशनों की पुस्तकें

  • प्रदेश सरकार ने लिया फैसला,15 दिन पहले ही शिक्षा मंत्री से चौ चंद्रमोहन के नेतृत्व में मिले थे कांग्रेस नेता-पूर्व डिप्टी सीएम चंद्रमोहन ने जताया आभार
  • प्राइवेट स्कूलों में निजी प्रकाशनों की महंगी पुस्तको की जगह एनसीआरटी की सस्ती पुस्तको को पाठ्यक्रम में डालने की थी मांग
  • अब सेकेंडरी शिक्षा विभाग ने जारी किए आदेश,प्राइवेट स्कूलों में केवल एनसीआरटी की ही पुस्तके होगी पाठ्यक्रम का हिस्सा-निजी प्रकाशनों की पुस्तकें नही
  • पूर्व डिप्टी सीएम चंद्रमोहन ने कहा,अभी केवल एक मांग पूरी हुई,अन्य समस्याओ को भी पूरा करवाने के लिए हर संभव प्रयास करेंगे

‘पुरनूर’ कोरल, पंचकुला – 8 मई 2021 :

पिछले काफी समय से अधिकांश निजी स्कूलों द्वारा निरन्तर छात्रों व अभिभावकों पर आर्थिक बोझ डाले जाने के विरुद्ध हर मोर्चे पर लड़ाई लड़ रहे हरियाणा सरकार के उपमुख्यमंत्री रह चुके चन्द्रमोहन के प्रयास रंग लाने लगे है।अब प्रदेश सरकार ने गत दिनों पूर्व ही उनके द्वारा की गई माँगानुसार निजी स्कूलों में प्राइवेट प्रकाशनों की जगह राष्ट्रीय शैक्षिक अनुसंधान एवं प्रशिक्षण परिषद(एनसीआरटी) की पुस्तकों को ही निजी स्कूलों के पाठ्यक्रम में अनिवार्य करने के आदेश जारी कर दिए है जिसको लेकर पूर्व डिप्टी सीएम चंद्रमोहन ने कंवरपाल गुर्जर शिक्षा मंत्री का आभार व्यक्त किया है।इस फैसले से छात्रों के अभिभावकों की जेब पर डाले जाने वाला आर्थिक बोझ 90 प्रतिशत से भी ज्यादा कम होगा।

गौरतलब है कि 20 अप्रेल 2021 को पूर्व डिप्टी सीएम चंद्रमोहन के नेतृत्व में विजय बंसल,शशि शर्मा,रविन्द्र रावल, हेमन्त किगंर,प्रियंका हुड्डा,दीपांशु बंसल,सुषमा खन्ना,अजय साई,अनवर हुसैन,रविन्द्र राहड़ समेत अन्य कांग्रेसी शिक्षा मंत्री से उनके निवास स्थित चंडीगढ़ मिले थे।इस दौरान चंद्रमोहन ने विस्तारपूर्वक निजी स्कूलों में छात्रों व अभिभावकों को आ रही समस्याओ के बारे बताया था जिसमे प्रमुख रूप से अनुचित फीस बढ़ोतरी,एनसीआरटी की बजाए निजी प्रकाशनों की महंगी किताबे लेना,जिला स्तर पर मॉनिटरिंग कमेटी बनाने जैसी मांग की थी।हालांकि इसको लेकर एक ज्ञापन भी सौंपा गया था जिसपर शिक्षा मंत्री ने तुरन्त संज्ञान लेते हुए शीघ्र समाधान का आश्वासन दिया था और एक मांग को पूरा भी कर दिया है।

काबिलेतारीफ बात यह है कि 15 दिनों के भीतर ही शिक्षा मंत्री द्वारा एक मांग को माने जाने पर जहां तो एक तरफ चंद्रमोहन ने आभार जताया है वही कहा कि उन्हें उम्मीद है कि अन्य मांगों पर भी इसी प्रकार गम्भीरतापूर्वक विचार करते हुए जल्द निर्णय लिया जाएगा जिससे हरियाणा के लाखो अभिभावकों, शिक्षकों व छात्रों को राहत प्रदान की जा सकेगी।

इस फैसले से अब निजी स्कूल अपनी मनमर्जी से निजी प्रकाशकों की पुस्तकों को बच्चों पर नहीं थोप पाएंगे।इसके साथ ही अब वह मोटा मुनाफा नहीं कमाएंगे क्योंकि प्रदेशभर के अधिकांश निजी स्कूलों में कमीशन खोरी के चक्कर में निजी प्रकाशकों की पुस्तकें लगाई जाती है।

— समाधान : पहले किताबो का सेट मिलता था 6-8 हजार तक,अब मिलेगा केवल 500-800 रुपए में..

पूर्व डिप्टी सीएम चंद्रमोहन के प्रयासों से अब हरियाणा में किसी भी बोर्ड से संबंद्धता रखने वाले सभी निजी स्कूलों में एनसीईआरटी की पुस्तकें ही लागू करनी होंगी।अब एनसीईआरटी की कक्षा पहली से बारहवीं तक की किताबें अमूमन 500 से 800 रुपये तक अभिभावकों को मिलेगी जबकि निजी स्कूलों में निजी प्रकाशकों की किताबें लगाकर बच्चों से छह हजार से आठ हजार रुपये तक वसूले जाते रहे हैं।कई निजी प्रकाशकों द्वारा निजी स्कूल संचालकों को किताबों पर 70 फीसद तक कमीशन दिया जाता है, जिसकी मार अभिभावकों की जेब पर पड़ती है।अब इसका स्थाई समाधान चंद्रमोहन द्वारा करवा दिया गया है।

— 5 साल में हाईकोर्ट में भी लंबित है मामला,पर सरकार ने निर्णय अब चंद्रमोहन के हस्तक्षेप के पश्चात लिया…

गौरतलब है कि वर्ष 2016 से यह मामला पंजाब एवं हरियाणा उच्च न्यायालय में भी विचाराधीन चल रहा है परन्तु अब पूर्व डिप्टी सीएम चंद्रमोहन द्वारा आवाज उठाने के साथ ही शिक्षा विभाग ने एनसीआरटी पुस्तको का निर्णय लेलिया है।दरअसल,शिक्षा नियमावली 2003 में पहले शिक्षा निदेशक को अधिकार नहीं था कि वह पाठ्यक्रम में एनसीईआरटी की पुस्तकें लागू करें।प्रदेश सरकार ने नियमावली में संशोधन कर अब यह अधिकार शिक्षा निदेशक को दे दिया है जिससे अब सकारात्मक निर्णय लिया गया है।

लोगो का कहना है कि चाहे छात्र व अभिभावकों के हित मे संघर्ष सड़क पर हो,विभिन्न जगह धरना प्रदर्शन करने हो या फिर शिक्षा मंत्री को निजी रूप से मिलकर ज्ञापन देकर तयबद्ध तरीके के साथ समस्याओ के समाधान के लिए सुझावो के साथ ज्ञापन देकर आवाज उठाने का हो,जनहित के हर मोर्चे पर पूर्व डिप्टी सीएम चंद्रमोहन अग्रिम श्रेणी में दिखाई देते है जिससे सभी का कांग्रेस पार्टी में विश्वास बढ़ रहा है।

PU celebrated World Red Cross Day

Panjab University in  association with Bhartiya Shikshan Mandal, Punjab And Red Cross Society, Punjab, on the eve of World Red Cross day  organised a virtual awareness lecture under the title “ Role of Civil Society in fight against Pandemic”.

Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor of P.U. in his address said that Civil Society is the most effective cooperative unit to fight against adversaries. He further added that Man has become the most formidable and fit creature on the earth, due to its acumen and agility to evolve the civilised societies. Man has learned the relevance of mutual cooperation, complementarity and harmony to tackle most of the challenges faced by living creatures. 

Sh. Avinash Rai Khanna, renowned thinker and social worker, related the obligations and role of a actual civilised society with formation and working of Indian Red Cross Society. Sh. Khanna urged every youth and capable member of Indian civil society to come forward with dedication to discharge their “ manav dharma” and “ samaj dhrama” holding it be most sacrosanct facet of Idea of justice propagated by Indian Civilisation. Sh. Khanna advised educational institutions to aware the youth to donate blood before being vaccinated, help lonely senior citizens whose children are serving away from home as army personnel or front line fighters and institutions should prepare consultation panels of medical students to aware the needy.

Dr. Umashankar Pachauri, All Indian General Secretary of Bhartiya Shikshan Mandal, quoted some anecdotes and stories from ancient Indian history, where to tackle the pandemic and adversaries every affluent member of Indian Society distribute all their earning among society at large and especially for marginalised sections. Dr Pachauri appealed to the audience to make everyone aware that one should restraint from being self centric by collecting medicine like Remidesivir for future, when other needy patients are suffering due to its urgent need. 

Along with hundreds of research scholars, academicians and students of P.U.,Dr. Vishal Sharma, Warden of Banda Bahadur Hostel, Dr. Manisha Sharma, Warden of Mother Teressa Hostel, Dr. Gaurav Gaur, Social Work Department, P.U.  were present.

“LIFE OF A PERSON WITH DISABILITY : SOCIAL AND PROFESSIONAL OPPORTUNITIES”

Equal Opportunity Cell for Persons with Disability, Panjab University, Chandigarh  in collaboration with Social Substance organized  a WEBINAR  on  “Life of a person with disability: Social and Professional Opportunities” by Ms Sukhdev Kaur Saini, Child Development Project officer cum Protection Officer, Chandigarh, today.

Ms Sukhdev Kaur Saini, an Alumni of PU sensitized the participants by sharing her Inspirational  life journey. She covered the different Government  schemes and programs directly aimed for the upliftment, rehabilitation and empowerment of persons with disabilities. She discussed in detail the different services extended by her Social Welfare department like Petrol and diesel subsidy to disabled persons ( 40 litre), assistance to Handicapped persons for purchase of aids and appliances, unemployment allowance to disabled persons, disbursement of Loan to persons with disabilities, etc.

Professor Raj Kumar,Vice Chancellor in his address urged everyone to encourage and accept differently abled persons who  are no less than any of us. He further added that for a better future, we must try to mitigate the discriminating culture and promote disability awareness through platforms, such as this webinar, for each and every individual, so that the foundation of empathy gets stronger and helps in breaking social barriers.

Earlier, Dr Neelima Dhingra ,Co Coordinator along with Dr Ramesh Kataria,  Coordinator EoC-PwD, Panjab University , extended a cordial welcome to all the participants and  distinguished guests

सावधान ‘के के’ आ रहा है

जालंधर:

शिक्षा विभाग के सचिव केके यानी किशन कुमार से विभाग के तमाम कर्मचारी टीचर से लेकर प्रिंसिपल तक खौफ खाते हैं और उक्त अधिकारी लाव लश्कर के साथ जालंधर में आ पहुंचा तो फिर क्या था की गाड़ियों को देखते ही अफरातफरी मच गई एक से दूसरे स्कूल में घंटियां बजने लगी। केके की गाड़ियां एक स्कूल में पहुंची तो वहां सफेदी हो रही थी स्कूल बंद हो चुका था। केके स्कूल की सफेदी का मुआयना करने लगे पता चला कि स्कूल 3 बजे बंद हो चुका है।

स्कूल भाग शिंघपूरा का था जहां काफी समय तक के के सफेदी का मुआयना करते रहे। इससे पहले केके की टीम चकदाना और उरापर के स्कूल गई और वहां पर चेकिंग की लेकिन केके की आने की खबर जंगल में आग की तरह फैल गई।

नवांशहर जालंधर और कपूरथला के तमाम स्कूल और टीचर चौकस हो गए एक दूसरे को मैसेज का टीचरों ने के के के आने के बारे में आगाह किया, हालांकि केके की टीम ने एक स्कूल में काफी खामियां पाई इसके बाद वहां से उठकर साथ चंडीगढ़ चली गई। केके का खौफ बुधवार को भी रहा और चर्चा रही की केके किसी समय भी वापिस आ सकता है

UIPS, Panjab University celebrated ‘Save Earth Week’ 22nd – 28th April 2021

University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Panjab University Chandigarh successfully celebrated  the virtual weeklong celebrations on the occasion of “Save Earth Week” which concluded today.

 Professor Indu Pal Kaur, Chairperson, UIPS briefed the audience about the theme- “Restore our Earth” and shared about the largest online mass mobilisation in history on 50th anniversary (2020) of World Earth Day. 

The Chief Guest of the occasion, Professor Karan Vasisht, Former Chairperson, UIPS inaugurated the Eco club and the official Facebook page of UIPS Eco-club- “Environmental Warriors of UIPS”. He enlightened about the five initiatives of ‘World Earth Day’ reiterating, every little change would guarantee a healthy Earth for the future generations. Further conduct of quarterly activities for the Eco-club was proposed.

Dr Ranjana Bhandari initiated and conducted all the activities planned during the week. 22nd April was celebrated as “Each one plant one” Sapling Plantation Drive led by Professor Karan Vasisht. 23rd April observed Awareness campaign on “Say no to plastics”-Adopt alternatives”. 24th April laid focus on Making bird feeders and birdhouses to bring sparrows back. 25th April commemorated “Save fuel-walk to work or cycle”. 26th April celebrated “Best out of waste campaign”. A webinar was organised on 27th April as an awareness campaign on “Green Entrepreneurship” and to mark the valedictory celebrations.

 Dr Vanita Prasad, Founder Director and CTO- REVY Environmental Solutions delivered a talk on “Green Ways of Managing Waste”. She stressed on the need to rethink about waste management during COVID 19 and its impacts. She shared different green ways for waste management like anaerobic digestion.

Professor Vivek Ranjan Sinha, Dean of University Instruction, Panjab University was the Chief Guest for the occasion. The webinar ended with a vote of thanks by Professor Indu Pal Kaur. The concluding day today observed the “Save Water Campaign”. 

A huge response was seen among students, faculty members and they participated in all the campaigns from their place.

UIFT & VD, PANJAB UNIVERSITY organizes Webinar

University Institute of Fashion Technology & Vocational Development, (UIFT & VD), Panjab University, Chandigarh, organized a webinar titled “Sewing Threads: Technicalities in Selection and Usage on Fashion Products” ,today.

Mr Uday Narayan Bammanwadi, Technical Service Manager with M/s. Guetermann India Private Limited, Gurgaon in his address, talked about the sewing threads – how these are manufactured, what are the types of sewing threads used in the apparel and textile industry and technicalities related to sewing and sewing threads. He differentiated between the spun and core spun sewing threads and elaborated Micro Core Technology (MCT) in thread manufacturing. There are various types of raw material or fibers used in manufacturing of yarn. He also illustrated how PET bottles are recycled to prepare sewing yarn contributing towards sustainable practices.

Puckering is a very common problem encountered during stitching operations on the production floor. He discussed various kinds of Puckering and technical reasons for the problem and showed samples of how correct selection of needle and yarn can lead to no pucker situation. Adjusting feed dog for pucker free situation was also demonstrated. 

Ticket number or yarn thickness and its selection for different fabrics were discussed at length. While stitching, a needle thread is continuously under pressure and has friction with the needle hole and the fabric. Needle temperature is also raised while high speed sewing and lubrication of sewing thread protect it from these extreme temperatures. Lubrication of thread can be during the dyeing stage or it can be done once the thread is manufactured. Mr Uday stressed that dyebath lubrication is better and lend the yarn with such qualities that thread remains intact and can withstand so many pressures and abrasions. 

Earlier, Anu H. Gupta, Chairperson of UIFT & VD welcomed and introduced the key speaker who has more than 26 years of technical experience in the field of Apparel and sewing technology. She said that

correct choice of sewing thread is very important as the selection of needle and thread can immensely reduce the rejects in a garment factory . 

Around 100 participants including Research scholars, students of Fashion Technology and faculty members from various colleges within and outside the city attended the webinar. 

The speaker answered queries of lot of students like sewing on stretchable fabrics, how GSM of fabric is related to the selection of sewing thread, the needle and machine etc.  Overall, the webinar was very interesting and informative for the researchers and students who will be joining industry in future.
