HARYANA TO GET FIVE NEW TOWNSHIPS

Chandigarh, Sept 25- Haryana Cabinet   here today accorded approval to the Panchgram Development Bill, 2018 for developing five new cities over an area of 50,000 hectares on each side of the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) expressway. Panchgram Development Authority will be constituted as the Apex Body for policy making, development and regulation for the development of Panchgram Region.

            The Cabinet approved the concept of the Panchgram Region and developing five cities on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) expressway on 50,000 hectares each side of the expressway which would cover eight districts of the State namely Sonipat, Rohtak, Jhajjar, Gurugram, Rewari, Mewat, Faridabad and Palwal. While the entire vacant area between the KMP expressway and Delhi has been included in the cities, the area on the outer side varies depending on the development potential.

            Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation(HSIIDC) has initiated the process for hiring a world class consultancy firm through a global tender for undertaking the master plan. The master plan will be prepared using the high resolution area, photography and act as a guiding document for all the future initiatives. This plan will be finalized after the study of the ground realities and demand-supply paradigm. The proposed legislation envisages creation of an authority for planning development and growth of Panchgram Region and a complete code for establishing and operationalising five modern and efficient cities. The Chief Minister will be the Chairperson of the Authority and the other members of the Authority will comprise of State Ministers, public representatives, State Government officers and local body representatives.

            Urbanization of the region along the KMP e-way is inevitable. It is estimated that around 50 per cent of the total population of India will be residing in urban areas by 2050. In case of Haryana, urban population will reach 50 per cent mark before 2040. The key urban areas of the State around National Capital Region (NCR) will see unprecedented growth in urban population. Haryana has an advantage of availability of maximum non-urbanized area around NCR which can be developed as new cities.
