PU’s Sanskrit department holds two special lectures

Panjab University’s Sanskrit department held two special lectures today on 29.9.23, titled ‘Rishi Dayanand Ka Shiksha chintan’ and ‘Directions and Opportunities in the field of Sanskrit’. The former was held under the celebration of 200th birth anniversary of Swami Dayanand Saraswati, whereas the latter was held in collaboration with PU’s Central Placement Cell. Teachers, research scholars and students of the department attended these lectures.

Speaker of the first lecture was Dr. Pushpinder Joshi, chairperson of the department of Sanskrit and Pali, Punjabi University, Patiala. Dr. Joshi told the audience about Rishi Dayanand Saraswati’s ideas and philosophy with regards to education. He said, “Rishi Dayanand was in favour of both Vedic and modern education, a fruit of which are the DAV institutions.” Dr. Joshi also told how Swami Dayanand Saraswati stood up for female education and laid emphasis on collective development.

In the second special lecture, which was held in collaboration with the Central Placement Cell of the Panjab University, Dr. Joshi made the audience aware about the traditional as well as the newer opportunities and directions of livelihood in the field of Sanskrit. He told the audience that Government of India and its bodies like UGC, are laying great emphasis on the study and teaching of Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS), which is going to open a lot of job opportunities for Sanskrit students.

Prof. Meena Sharma, Director of PU’s Central Placement Cell, introduced the students of Sanskrit department with the various activities and services which the cell provides for the students with regards to placement and employability enhancement. Prof. Sharma laid emphasis on the combination of academic expertise and soft skills.

Academic incharge of Sanskrit department, Prof. V. K. Alankar said in the closing remarks, “opportunities are only for those who excel in their fields and have necessary soft skills.”             Prof. Alankar gave a vote of thanks to the speakers, organisers and participants.
