Chandigarh, September 4, 2018:

Punjab government’s decision to regularize unauthorized colonies, plots therein and other buildings through One Time Settlement (OTS) scheme, has once again hit the roadblock. The policy which was cleared in the previous cabinet meeting on July 30 has not been notified so far.

Upon investigation by Babushahi, it has come to light that the process would take another week of so since the policy would be again brought up during the next cabinet meeting. When contacted, minister for housing and urban development Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa said, “A couple of financial clauses have been added to the policy and it would be notified soon after approval by the cabinet.”

When in force, the policy would become applicable to the entire state including municipal limits falling under the Punjab New Capital (Periphery) Control Act, 1952. This shall however not be applicable to rest of the periphery area. This policy shall also not be applicable to colonies that have apartments. It has been presumed that if this policy comes into force, the state government would earn a revenue of over Rs 5,000 crore from registries and use of stamp papers. The revenue collected from the process would be used for providing basic civic amenities to residents of those colonies.
