“India’s Achievements at 75” organized by Dean College Development Council

Dean College Development Council organizes panel discussion on “India’s Achievements at 75” as a part of the celebration of Iconic Event Week of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav on March 10, 2022

An invigorating and very illuminating panel discussion on “India’s Achievements at 75” was organized on March 10, 2022 at the Seminar Hall of the Rajiv Gandhi College Bhawan at Panjab University, Chandigarh by Prof Anju Suri, Dean College Development Council, as a part of the celebrations of Iconic Event Week of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. While expounding on the theme of the panel discussion, Prof. Anju Suri, DCDC, extended a warm and a cordial welcome to the panelists and the participants. 

The Chief Guest for the occasion who inaugurated the Panel Discussion was the Honourable Vice Chancellor of the Panjab University Prof Raj Kumar. Prof Raj Kumar highlighted the role of Innovation and Research in fuelling development and sustainability in India amongst the youth.  Prof. Raj Kumar particularly stressed the academia-industry partnership and encouraged the young participants to focus on their talents and start ups as a building process of nation. He also stressed on the need of the holistic development of personality which may be drawn from National Education Policy (NEP)-2020.

Prof Sudhir Kumar, Dean Research, Panjab University was the Guest of Honour and he delved at length on the significance of Shiksha (education) and Diksha (Right Knowledge and conduct) during his address.

The Moderator for the session was Dr Veenu Mangat, Assosiate Professor and Coordinator, Information and Technology Department, University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Panjab University. The august and attentive audience comprised of the various teachers and students drawn from the various universities and colleges affiliated to the Panjab University.

The panel discussion started on a calming note by a brief meditation session that was organized by Prof Savita Kansal, Fellow and Principal, Brahmrishi Yoga Training College, Sector 19, Chandigarh.

Prof. Devender Singh, Fellow and Chairperson, Department of Laws, Panjab University, Chandigarh emphasized on the role of the Constitution and the significance of the Rule of Law which has made the true freedom of the citizens of India possible. He also talked of the need to reflect on the Dharma and cultural connections that are the root of the composite culture of our country.

Prof Nisha Bhargava, Principal, Mehar Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Sector 36, talked of the economic contexts of the freedom movement and how India has been able to become a self sustaining and food surplus country through the means of the Green Revolution by harnessing the power of our agrarian economy. 

Prof. Ajay Sharma, Principal, GGDSD College, Sector 32, Chandigarh delved on the need for building and fostering the vocational education culture amongst the youth as a means of taking India forward into the future.

Prof Navjot Kaur, Principal, Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Sector 26, drew the attention of the audience on the need for the development of an innovative mindset and skill up-gradation as a means to fuel the development of the nation as well as promotion of inclusiveness and equal opportunity.

Prof. Sapna Nanda, Principal, Government College for Yoga Education, Sector 23, took the audience on an audio-visual journey through the means of a short documentary on the holistic importance of yoga in the life of an individual, especially during the time of the recent global health crisis.
