UIPS, PU receives Grant of Rs. 1 crore from its Alumni

Chandigarh December 3, 2021

Continuing in its legacy of excellence, UIPS recently procured a magnanimous grant of Rs 1 Crore under Corporate and Social Responsibility (CSR) from a multinational pharmaceutical company, M/s Mylan Laboratories Limited, facilitated by its alumni, Mr Rajiv Malik, President, Viatris, USA and Mr Sanjeev K Sethi, Chief Operating Officer, Viatris/Mylan, India. This is the highest grant received under CSR by Panjab University.

The grant will be utilized in establishing state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, procurement of sophisticated instruments and for generation of other facilities at UIPS, which will go a long way in accelerating the already upward growing graph of UIPS. This is defined under an agreement signed between the Company and Registrar, Panjab University. Professor Indu Pal Kaur, Chairperson UIPS, attributes continuous accomplishments of UIPS to the cohesiveness, hard work and persistent efforts of the globally acclaimed faculty colleagues, alumni and dedication of students.

University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS) is one of the most celebrated institute, not only within Panjab University but is also ranked nationally as number 2 Pharmaceutical Sciences Institute. In addition, nine of its faculty members have been repeatedly recognized amongst the top 2% most cited scientists in the field of Pharmacy and Pharmacology across the globe as promulgated by Stanford USA research group consolidating data in the area. This is resplendent with academic achievements and offering best in class placement opportunities as evidenced by the highly established alumni occupying prominent research, administrative and industry positions within and outside the country. The UIPS alumni have been consistently supporting the alma mater atvarious levels, including a significant endowment fund of (~USD 200000) created by senior alumnus, Mr Jaswant Singh Gill, CA, USA to support needy and bright graduate and doctoral pharmacy students. Similar scholarship contributions have also been made by alumni from North America.

The high prowess in publications; high quality research output in terms of patents, technology-transfers to industry and grants; academics & collaborative outputs; near 100% placements of graduating Masters students and national & international collaborations are the main strengths of UIPS.

The Institute has some exceptional achievements of discoveries of new drugs and a series of molecules and has successfully licensed a dozen of innovative technologies to pharmaceutical industries for commercialization. Further, it is our STRIVE AT UIPS TO IMPROVE, EVOLVE AND INNOVATE aligning with the policies of our nation, said Professor Indu Pal Kaur.

At this juncture she also shared that UIPS was assigned 4 stars under the Institution’s Innovation Council-University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (IIC-UIPS) announced by Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell, New Delhi.
