HC directs State & Center to release compensation to Jodhpur detenues

 

 

New Delhi , 2 July :

The central government filed a petition in High Court for challenging an order passed by the Amritsar court wherein directed the state of Punjab and Union government to pay Rs 4 lakh compensation per head to 40 Sikhs who were allegedly detained and kept in illegal custody at temporary prison after their arrest from Golden Temple complex after Operation Blue Star. Victims were allegedly kept in illegal detention initially in Amritsar and then in Jodhpur jail after Operation Blue Star had ended. In its plea, Centre has said that it was not in jurisdiction of Amritsar court to hear the petition.

Today case heard in the court of Justice Sh. Ajay Tiwari, state counsel apprised the court that state has been paid entire amount of its share to all respondents. Sh. Satya Pal Jain Addl. Solicitor of India made statement that union of India is ready to pay its share to award  Compensation amount to responded as per decree of Amritsar court. He also stated that responded shall withdrawn the allegations put against the structure of army force in their civil suit at Amritsar court. Central govt counsel also apprised the court that amount has been sanctioned on June 27.2018. After the hearing court directed to central govt and state govt to be released the entire amount to responded upto July 31, 2018. In respect of this order respondent counsel given undertaking that civil suit filed at Amritsar court shall be withdraw.
