Alumni meet at Guru Nanak Sikh Studies, PU

Department of Guru Nanak Sikh Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh organized Alumni Meet Programme along with Prize Distribution Function, here today.
Prof. Jaspal Kaur Kaang, Academic Incharge of the Department informed that welcomed the Guests and Alumni of the Department who came from the various places to join Alumni function. She stated that Department of Guru Nanak Sikh Studies established in 1970 in pursuance of a scheme of the Punjab Govt. and University Grants Commission to set up Guru Nanak Chairs at some universities of India in commemoration of the Birth-Quincentenary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji in 1970. The Panjab University was the first to establish such a Chair for study and research. Prof. Gurbachan Singh Talib was the founder head of the Department and the legacy continued with the prominent scholars Prof. H.S. Shan, Prof. Darshan Singh (Professor Emeritus), Prof. N.K Oberio, Prof. Santosh Sharma, and Prof. Jaspal Kaur Kaang. The chair has now enlarged its scope by starting MA Course in Comparative Study of Religion from 2016. She also shared the information that 75 scholars have received Ph. D degrees from the Department of Guru Nanak Sikh Studies till yet. On this convocation (28.04.2019) 05 scholars are also taking Ph. D degree and one student taking gold medal for achieving 1st Position in the University.
The prominent Alumni who attended the function included Prof. S.S. Bhatti, Prof. Sneh Lata Badhwar, Dr. Harjas Kaur, Dr. Maninder Kaur, Dr. Balvir Kaur, Dr. Priya, Dr. Ved Parkash Malhotra, Dr. Amardeep Kaur, Dr. Puneet, Dr. Devinderjit Kaur, Dr. Jamit Kaur, Dr. Kamaljit Kaur, Dr. Inderjit Kaur, Dr. Jaswant Singh, Dr. Harpreet Singh, Dr. Parvinder Kaur, Prof. Darshan Singh and from M.A Student’s 1st batch Sadaspreet Singh, Paramdeep Sohi, Sanjeev Kumar, Ashveer Singh and Suman attended the function. Dr. Jasbir Kaur, Dr. Bhatti, Dr. Ved Parkash, Dr. Priya shared their achievements and old memories spent in the Department.
Prof. Shankarji Jha, Dean of University Instructions, PU in the presence of Prof. Karamjeet Singh, Registrar and Prof. Deepti Gupta, Dean International Students gave merit Certificates to the students who held top positions in the University and from the Department also.
