Two militants killed in Srinagar, area sanitised


All educational institutions were closed in Srinagar district.


Security forces shot dead the two militants who were holed up at a house in Soothu Kothair area near Srinagar on Wednesday, October 24, 2018.

The Army has launched a cordon and search operation in the city on information that some militants had sneaked in the area.

The militants opened fire on security forces, triggering a gun battle in which two ultras were killed.

A police official said locals have been told not to go near the operation site till the area has been santiised.

A police official said  the militants were hiding inside  a house. “An area was cordoned off around 2 a.m. after specific inputs about the presence of militants at Soothu Kothair area on the city outskirts,” said the police.

The Army is leading the operation.

Locals said the area is rattled with loud blasts and firing was on when this report was filed.

“Hiding militants have been hit by the fire. The operation has entered into the final phase,” a police official said.

All educational institutions including colleges, higher secondary and schools were closed in Srinagar district as precautionary measure. Internet services has also been snapped.
