‘Dr B.R. Ambedkar and the Constituent Assembly Elections of 1946’ held by Dr Anirban Bandopadhyay

Commemorating Ambedkar Jayanti, Dr B.R. Ambedkar Centre and University School of Open Learning, held a special lecture titled; Dr B.R. Ambedkar and the Constituent Assembly Elections of 1946, by Dr Anirban Bandopadhyay from Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences, Bhubaneshwar on 12.04.2022.  The speaker pointed out that Dr. Ambedkar is remembered for being an unstinted leader of dalits and as a Chairman of the Drafting Committee of Indian Constitution. The complex relationship between the Indian National Congress and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was examined.

Dr. Anirban also referred to Ambedkar’s special address in the Constituent Assembly in November 1946 calling for unity among all parties after he was elected to the Constituent Assembly in 1946. This talk explored the intersection of caste, constitution making and the partition in South Asia.
