Justice Mahesh Grover delivered a talk on the topic ‘Appointment of Judges in India’.

The Centre for IAS & Other Competitive Examinations organized Special Lectures for the Panjab University students and aspirants of IAS and various competitive examinations.

 Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab  University briefed about the achievements of the University and also congratulated the Centre for IAS and Other Competitive Examinations for holding such talks and starting many programs in virtual mode inspite of Corona pandemic. 

Justice Grover spoke at length about how the judges are appointed giving the students an insight about the process. He also highlighted the Roles and Responsibilities of a judge. He resonated the apprehensions and spirits while appointing judges. Time and again he said there has been a constant struggle between Executive and Judiciary and whenever Political process overweighs one must not be overtly disturbed when one holds the Rule of Law. He said wrong doings and happenings must be raised voice over and Independence of Judiciary must be very effectively practised.

Sh. Vishal Chandra from Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (MP-IDSA), New Delhi delivered a talk on the topic ‘What Does Return of Taliban “Emirate” Mean for Afghanistan and the Region’. Sh. Vishal Chandra talked about India and Afghanistan Relation. He also touched upon the History of Afghanistan and number of provinces, tribes, races etc. in Afghanistan. He talked at length about the effect of Taliban Rule on Indian-Afghanistan Relationship with respect to Economy, Security, Defence Strategies etc.

Earlier, Dr Sonal Chawla, Honorary Director welcomed and introduced the Guest Speaker to the attendees. She conveyed her heartfelt thanks to him for his gracious presence.

The lectures were enthusiastically attended by many students.
