Community involvement in the road safety initiatives in the district will be ensured- Vinay Pratap Singh

Panchkula, July 14:

On the initiative of Deputy Commissioner, Sh Vinay Pratap Singh, the District Administration has decided to ensure community involvement in various road safety initiatives and to form a team of volunteers that will assist the concerned departments in this work.

Sh Vinay Pratap Singh said that along with the Police and road owning agencies like National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Public Works (Building and Roads), Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) and Municipal Corporation, it is the responsibility of every citizen to come forward and contribute actively towards road safety.

He said that any resident of the district who intends to work as a volunteer could give his name in the office of Regional Transport Authority (RTA), Panchkula. He said that besides the officers of road construction agencies, these road safety volunteers would also be invited in the meetings of the District Road Safety Committee constituted under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner. The suggestions to be given by them in the meetings to further improve road safety would be considered, he added.

 He said that these volunteers would be entrusted with the task of making people aware of traffic rules through the awareness programmes and campaigns on road safety run by the concerned departments and agencies from time to time. Apart from this, they would also assist the traffic police in road traffic management as a moral policing.

Sh Vinay Pratap Singh said that in view of the ongoing  monsoon season, he has directed the road construction agencies to identify accident prone sites and black spots so that speed breakers and lighting arrangements could be made at these spots to prevent road accidents. He said that directions have also been issued to the agencies that repair work of roads damaged due to rain in the district be started at the earliest.

 The Deputy Commissioner said that as the State Government has decided to resume physical classes for students of class 9th to 12th from July 16, 2021 with the consent of parents, he has directed RTA, Panchkula to conduct checking of school buses for the safety and security of students. He said that the schedule for checking of buses would be released by RTA Panchkula soon so that proper inspection of the buses could be done and if any deficiency is found then it could be rectified.
