Administrator addressed key issues like Surge in Onion prices, Law and Order Situation, Conversion of Government Press Building into Vintage Car Museum

Korel, Chandigarh, 4th December 2019:

A meeting was held in UT Secretariat today under the Chairmanship of Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator UT Chandigarh in the presence of Sh. Arun Goel, IAS, Secretary Culture, Government of India, Sh. Vikas Partap, IAS, Secretary Culture, Government of Punjab and other UT officers were present.

The details regarding future utilisation of Press Building and Kalagram lawns were discussed.  A presentation was made on the concept of Vintage Car Museum and Corbusier designed Furniture Museum.

The Administrator also reviewed the law and order issues and stressed on disposal of cases pending for the last several years in various police stations.  The DGP Chandigarh also mentioned about decreasing crime rate.  He also mentioned that the newly launched toll free No.112 was running successfully.  Recently, a trial was done by media persons and it was found working satisfactorily.  A notification regarding traffic violation compounding fee was also finalized.  The recommendations of Municipal Corporation for levying 10 paise per unit as electricity cess was formally approved.

In addition to this the Administrator also addressed the issue of surge in the price of onions in U.T. Chandigarh and to provide relief to the public.  To provide good quality onions at reasonable prices, the department of Food & Supplies and Consumer Affairs & Legal Metrology, U.T., Chandigarh has taken up this matter with the Department of Consumer Affairs, Govt. of India to direct the National Agricultural Co-operative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) to make available good quality onions at the earliest which would cost around Rs.60-65/- per kg.

This would be sold by the department at its stalls across the city.  The Administrator has also directed the department of Food & Supplies and Consumer Affairs & Legal Metrology to conduct regular checks to ensure that no hoarding or malpractices in the sale of onions is being done in the city and strict action be taken against those found indulged in malpractices.
