Subject: Action against motor vehicles plying on cycle tracks.

                  Chandigarh Traffic Police is regularly conducting special drives against motor vehicles plying on cycle tracks in U.T. Chandigarh.

                In order to take strict action against the motor vehicles plying on cycle track all the traffic police officials have been sensitized and equipped to enforce section 202 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 as per which persons who commit the offence punishable under section 184 MV Act, 1988 (driving dangerously) in their presence are arrested without warrant and their vehicles are impounded.  Further, all such cases are submitted to the concerned Court with the request for institution of prosecution case against violators as per provisions of M.V. Act, 1988.

                On 13.2.2019, 07 such cases have been booked under section 202 read with Section 184 M.V. Act, 1988 for the violation of plying motor vehicles on cycle track at dividing road, Sector 44/45, Chandigarh. 

                This drive was started in the month of October, 2018 and till date, 436 such cases under section 202 read with Section 184 M.V. Act, 1988 have been booked for the said violation.

                As per Section 184 of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, offender of such offence shall be punishable for the first offence with imprisonment for a term which may extend to six months, or with fine which may extend to one thousand rupees.                  Chandigarh Traffic Police appeals to the general public not to ply their motor vehicles on cycle track. Strict action shall be continued to be taken against such violations in the future.
