‘Groom’s brother had sexually abused the girl’
DCW involved Delhi Police in the matter
The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Monday said that following a complaint, the DCW rescued a 13-year-old girl, who was being forcefully married to a 25-year-old man.
“The 13-year-old girl was dressed as a bride and was being taken to Uttar Pradesh for her marriage. The DCW team learnt that the victim’s mother was a domestic help and father a daily-wage labourer,” said the DCW in a statement.
‘Sexual abuse’
“When the DCW team reached the Palam residence along with the Delhi Police team, they were informed that the groom’s brother had previously sexually abused the victim. The 35-year-old brother wanted to have the girl married to his brother, and the crime could have been repeated multiple times over,” the women’s commission also said.
DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal said, “It is a matter of great shame that in today’s India, little girls are being married off in the Capital. I thank the person who informed the commission about the matter and also appeal to all to keep their eyes and ears open.”
The commission also said that the girl has been sent to a shelter home by the Child Welfare Committee.
