“The more you work hard better you will perform”, advised the former Indian Captain Sardar Singh to the upcoming Indian Hockey teams, the day after he announced his retirement from International Hockey.
During ‘Meet the Press’ event organised by Chandigarh Press Club, Sardar Singh was fascilitated by Club President Virender S. Rawat and Vice President Jaswant Rana.
While talking to scribes in the Press Club Chandigarh he admitted that team could not meet the expectations of the nation. He made this decision after disappointing Asian Games, where India could not defend their title and had to settle with the Bronze Medal.
He told that he had taken this decision after consultation with his family and team India, as it is time for future generation to take over.
Arjun Awardee Sardar Singh played for 12 years and retired at 32. He was also decorated with Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratan last year. He represented national team for 8 years. He was awarded Padma Shri in 2015, he also represented India in 2 Olympics.
Hailing from Sirsa, Haryana Sardar’s career was not devoid of controversies either. He was accused of rape of an Indian origin British Woman, later was given clean chit by the police.
