Six terrorists were killed by the army while they were trying to infiltrate into India at Keran sector in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district today. It was the biggest infiltration attempt in recent months, officials said.

Two days ago, a soldier was killed and another was injured in an ambush at Keran, 94 kilometres from Srinagar. The security forces have been combing the sector since that ambush when they spotted the infiltrators today.

The security forces are still patrolling the area to look for terrorists who could be hiding in the forests.

Including the six killed today, 21 terrorists have been killed in the state in the last two weeks.

Only two days ago, Home Minister Rajnath Singh visited the district and met with residents of the border area. Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office Jitendra Singh had accompanied him.

Though the centre had announced a Ramzan truce in Jammu and Kashmir, terrorist attacks have continued. The home minister has said security forces are free to carry out operations against terrorists if there are attacks during Ramzan.
