Amalgamation of two adjoining residential sites approved by UT Administrator

Union territory Administrator V P Singh Badnore on Tuesday approved the amalgamation of two adjoining residential sites in the city, but with certain riders. A senior official of the UT Administration confirmed the approval has been given, but with some conditions such as the ownership of both the sites must be same. “Also, the development control norms will be of the larger plot. The development will be such that the overall architectural controls are maintained like that of the two plots,” said the official.

The merger of plots will not be allowed in the Chandigarh housing board properties and residential societies.
The officer added that a notification in this regard will be issued within this week.

Baljinder Singh Bittu, Chairman of Federation of Sectors Welfare Association of Chandigarh, said that it was a big relief. “It is a good move for the residents and will help them a lot. Sometimes, if a person wants to open an additional door, he can’t do so because of the restrictions. I am thankful that administration has given a go ahead for this,” he said.

As of now, the amalgamation of two or more adjoining sites with the same ownership is allowed in the case of commercial and industrial properties, subject to the condition that the revised plans are approved by a competent authority.

The administration has also allowed amalgamation of the floors of commercial properties and semi-industrial plots as a temporary arrangement, even if the owners of the adjoining plots are different, but that is on the condition that both buildings should be rented to one party.

There were several representations from the city residents who wanted that the merger of two adjoining plots be allowed.

“Gaon Bandh” a call from Haryana

At least five farmer organisations in Haryana have given a call of ‘Gaon Bandh’ (village shutdown) under which farmers won’t go to urban areas to sell farm produce such as vegetables, fruits and milk from June 1-June 10. The protest is to press for their demands of loan waiver and 50 per cent margin over cost of production for crops in real terms. Farmers bodies of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and many other states have also given similar call as part of the nation wide agitation on the call of Rashtriya Kisan Mahasangh, an umbrella body of over 100 farmers organisations.

“This form of agitation is new for us as farmer groups of MP and Maharashtra have been giving calls for `Gaon Bandh’. We have been staging dharnas and rallies but this time we have also urged Haryana farmers to participate,” said Suresh Koth, president of Bhartiya Kisan Sanghrash Samiti’s Haryana unit. According to Koth, farmers are expressing surprise over this forum of agitation.

However, Bharatiya Kisan Union Haryana unit president Gurnam Singh Chaduni is more confident over the prospects of this form of the stir. “We will stage dharnas near the towns. If any farmer goes to the towns to sell their products we would request them to return to the village and sell the same near the roadside. Urban residents may go to the villages to buy the farm products,” said Chaduni.

10 lakh employees reject 2 per cent salary hike, ATM services likely to be hit

Around 10 lakh bank employees went on a two-day strike from Wednesday as the conciliation efforts by the government failed to convince bank unions to call off the stir against the proposed low wage hike. The call for the strike has interrupted the banking services across the country.

As several rounds of talks between banks and the unions did not make any headway, the United Forum of Banking Unions (UFBU), an umbrella body of nine bank unions, has gone on strike against the proposed wage hike of 2 per cent as against 15 per cent given last time, All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA), general secretary C H Venkatachalam said.

Under the last 10th Bipartite Wage Settlement that was made effective from 1-11-2012, IBA had agreed for a hike of 15 per cent increase over the total wage Bill, he said.
