HC scolds Kejri for malfascilities

The NGO has also claimed in its plea that the land earmarked for a playground for the school kids was being used for dumping garbage and domestic waste.

The AAP government was pulled up today by the Delhi High Court for lack of infrastructure and basic amenities, like water and toilet facilities, in a fully-aided, government school here.

Terming the situation in the 100 per cent government-aided school as “pathetic”, a bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar ordered immediate provision of water and toilet facilities in the school.

The court also directed the Deputy Director of Education to conduct a physical inspection of Alok Punj Senior Secondary School at Karawal Nagar in northeast Delhi to ascertain its other infrastructural inadequacies.

The school was run earlier by a society but was taken over by the Delhi government later.

The bench ordered the Education Department official to file a status report within 10 days after carrying out the inspection and listed the matter for further hearing on July 30.

PDP – Congress may form government in J & K

This is the first meeting of the core group of the Congress after the fall of Mehbooba government following the withdrawal of support by the BJP.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s recent visit to Delhi and subsequent meeting of the core group of the Congress headed by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday have triggered speculations that Mehbooba’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Congress may join hands to form a new government in the state.

Further, a meeting of all MLAs and MLCs has been convened in Srinagar on Tuesday to discuss the party’s strategy following the collapse of the PDP-BJP government with the latter withdrawing support to Mehbooba.

Soon after Mehbooba’s visit to Delhi was finalised last week, the speculations of her meeting with top Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, started floating in the political circles.

Though senior Congress leaders, including Ghulam Nabi Azad and the JKPCC chief GA Mir, have denied any move to join hands with the PDP the rumours have refused to die.

National Conference spokesman Junaid Azim Mattu, in an apparent reference to Amitabh Mattoo, tweeted: “A former advisor to the J&K CM is trying to cobble up an alliance between Congress & PDP. Perhaps that explains why @MehboobaMufti is in Delhi while rest of us are trying to keep our heads above the rising flood waters!”

It may be mentioned that the PDP and the Congress had also formed a coalition government in 2002 with the commitment of both parties having the post of chief minister for a period of three years each. However, that was not a happy experience for the Congress as Mehbooba’s father Mufti Mohammed Sayeed after enjoying chief ministership for a period of three years withdrew support to Congress CM Ghulam Nabi Azad on the issue of the Amarnath Shrine land agitation.

The Kashmir core group of the Congress comprising Manmohan Singh, Karan Singh, Ghulam Nabi Azad, P Chidambaram, Ambika Soni and GA Mir had recently visited the state and accused the BJP of mishandling the situation in the state.

However, the Congress is learnt to be divided again on joining hands with the PDP to remain in power for the leftover period of a little more than two years. One faction in the party was reportedly of the view that the party, which was at this point of time enjoying an edge over the BJP in the Jammu region, would face anti-incumbency factor in the next election and might not be in a position to come to power. There was widespread anger against the PDP in the Valley and sharing power with them would be suicidal.

This is the first meeting of the core group of the Congress after the fall of Mehbooba government following the withdrawal of support by the BJP.

Frequent visits of the BJP’s pointsman on Kashmir, Ram Madhav, to the Valley have also triggered noises of the BJP planning some alternatives to form the government in J&K. Madhav’s meeting with Sajjad Lone, who is from the family of “moderate separatists” but was a minister in Mehbooba’s cabinet from the BJP quota, had generated speculations of the BJP trying to manipulate the situation to form the government.

The NC and the Congress had alleged that the BJP was trying to engineer defections as a result of which they asked the Governor to dissolve the Assembly to prevent horse-trading.

Meanwhile, within a day of losing power, Mehbooba’s loyal legislator Abid Hussain Ansari has virtually revolted against her by accusing her of having converted the PDP into a family fiefdom. She had appointed her family members on important positions, he alleged.

No support to any party: Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami

Amid speculation of the PDP and Congress joining hands to form a government in Jammu and Kashmir with the support of four independents, CPI-M MLA Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami said on Monday there was “no question of extending support to any formation trying to form a government in the state”.

It was being said that the PDP and Congress would seek the support of four MLAs to reach the magic figure of 44 to form the government. In the Assembly of 87, the PDP has 28 members and the Congress 12. They would require four other members to have the required strength to stake claim to form the government.

In a statement, Tarigami said he would not support any party for forming the government.

Reports said pro-separatists MLA Engineer Rashid was also not inclined to support any such formation.

IS takes responsibility of Jalalabad suicide bombing

The suicide bombing has created a sense of panic among the local minority groups of Hindus and Sikhs who are thinking of moving to India, after the Sunday bombing killed the Sikh representative Avtar Singh Khalsa.

Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing attack in the eastern province of Afghanistan that killed 19, mostly Hindus and Sikhs on Sunday. The suicide bombing targetted a delegation which was moving towards the residence of the governor for a meeting with President Ashraf Ghani. Ghani was in Jalalabad at the time of the attack.

According to AP, in a statement, terror organisation IS claimed responsibility saying it had targetted the group of “polytheists.”

The suicide bombing has created a sense of panic among the local minority groups of Hindus and Sikhs who are thinking of moving to India after the Sunday bombing killed the Sikh representative Avtar Singh Khalsa. Khalsa was the only Sikh candidate in the parliamentary elections of the Afghan nation.

“I am clear that we cannot live here anymore,” Tejvir Singh, 35, whose uncle was killed in the blast told Reuters. “Our religious practices will not be tolerated by the Islamic terrorists. We are Afghans. The government recognises us, but terrorists target us because we are not Muslims,” added Singh, the secretary of a national panel of Hindus and Sikhs.

The country which once had a strong population of 250,000 Sikhs has now been reduced to just 300 families after the civil war began in the early 1990s. The minority groups face intense discrimination and prejudice despite official political and state recognition. “We are left with two choices: to leave for India or to convert to Islam,” Baldev Singh, who owns a book- and textile shop in Jalalabad told Reuters.

Meanwhile, the Indian administration has indicated a willingness to accept these minority groups in the country, “They can all live in India without any limitation,” Vinay Kumar, India’s ambassador to Afghanistan told Reuters. “The final call has to be taken by them. We are here to assist them,” Kumar added.

The Indian government had assured help to the Afghan government after the attack with Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeting, “We strongly condemn the terror attacks in Afghanistan yesterday. They are an attack on Afghanistan’s multicultural fabric. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. I pray that the injured recover soon. India stands ready to assist the Afghanistan government in this sad hour.”

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj also met with the relatives of those who died in the Jalalabad bombings on Sunday and said “My heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims of the terror attack in Jalalabad city of Afghanistan. We are with them in this hour of tragedy.”

No body wants to visit a house frequently raided by CBI, IT & ED: Neeraj Kumar

RJD leader Tej Pratap Yadav has said he intended to put up a “no entry” board at his mother’s house in Patna for Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, in line with his party’s stand that the door is closed for return of JD(U) president to the Grand Alliance, which also comprises Congress.

Reacting to the maverick Yadav’s deriding remark, JD(U) spokesman and MLC Neeraj Kumar on Monday said their house is frequently raided by CBI, Income Tax Department and the Enforcement Directorate. Who would like to enter it in the first place?

I wish to put up a board proclaiming No Entry for uncle Nitish Kumar here, at this bungalow, Tej Pratap Yadav, elder son of Lalu Prasad, had told reporters on Sunday, outside the 10, Circular Road residence allotted to his mother and former Chief Minister Rabri Devi, a stones throw from the Chief Minister’s official residence 1, Anney Marg.

Yadav was replying to queries about the statement made last week by his younger brother Tejashwi Yadav, whom the party has named its Chief Ministerial candidate for the next assembly polls, that the door is closed for Nitish Kumar who is said to be growing uncomfortable in the BJP-led NDA.

Tejashwi Yadav, who is also the leader of the opposition in the state assembly, had made the statement in the backdrop of reports that Congress, was willing to take Kumar back in the alliance upon his breaking ties with the BJP.

Tej Pratap Yadav, whose family has been targeted many times by Sushil Kumar Modi over alleged irregular land transactions, said the Bihar Deputy Chief Minister should sit at home and drink tea, the people are going to give him a befitting reply in the next elections.

Replying to a query, the former health minister made it clear I am not going to contest the Lok Sabha polls as I have no desire to move out of Bihar. I will contest the next assembly polls.

When asked about Tej Pratap Yadavs remarks, JD(U) spokesman told PTI the language used by the RJD leader reflects the values he has grown up with. He also seems to be frustrated over having to play second fiddle to his younger brother.

Notably, the Grand Alliance had come into being after Nitish Kumar and his arch-rival RJD supremo Lalu Prasad sank their differences and joined hands, in the wake of the drubbing received by them in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

The three-party alliance swept the assembly elections held a year later, causing the biggest setback to the BJP-led NDA’s winning spree. Tejashwi, then just 26 years old, was made the Deputy CM. However, after money laundering cases were lodged against him last year, relations began to sour between the RJD and Nitish Kumar.

The Chief Minister finally walked out of the alliance in July last year, formed a new government with the BJP and returned to the NDA, which he had quit in 2013 following differences over projection of Narendra Modi, then the Gujarat Chief Minister, as the Prime Ministerial candidate.
