A webinar on the theme Geopolitics of Pandemics in Anthropocene was organised by the Panjab University- Institute of Social Science Education and Research(PU-ISSER),Chandigarh. Prof. Sanjay Chaturvedi,Chairperson, Department of International Relations & Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, South Asian University was the invited speaker.

Prof  Chaturvedi dedicated his presentation to the forefront warriors of the Novel Coronavirus Pandemic. Through his lecture he presented his views on what coronavirus has done to geopolitics and what geopolitics has done to coronavirus. He expressed that a disease is perceived as geopolitical issue in terms of four main dimensions i.e. destabilization, sovereignty, the instrumentalization of health, and geopolitical economy, which was very much visible through the lockdown, about its longevity and process. This new geopolitics has emerged in the context of larger debates about globalization, development, mobility and security.

He referred to the  Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change, that a growing recognition of the rapidly accelerating role of anthropogenic drivers is disrupting the biogeochemical processes and planetary boundaries of the Earth System. Our evolution and health as human beings have been dependent from the start on our interactions with a planetary ecosystem. The anthropocentric forms of globalization have fundamentally changed these ecological interdependencies, making us the dominant global species and creating today what some scientists and social scientists refer to as a new ecological turned geological era.

He also touched the multi-dimensions of the COVID-19, i.e., Government response, avoiding infection and spread, impact on trade, impact on financial market, workforce impact, and impact on travel and also finding a vaccine which is a big challenge.

He gave a reference of the countries of the Indo-Pacific region, that their population will be the highest by 2050. To further broaden on the theme of the webinar, he stated that a geopolitical competition between free and repressive visions of world order is taking place in the Indo Pacific region. It represents the most populous and economically dynamic part of the world. The U.S. interest in a free and open Indo-Pacific extends back to the earliest days of our republic. He also discussed in brief about the fear of pandemic and pandemic of fear. The pandemic in the form of Climate change is also a big challenge these days for us which is also a new security challenge. He gave references of various narratives relating to geopolitics and the COVID which are being reflected in news in these times highlighting the challenges of the minority groups around us like the refugees and migrants. Towards the end he quoted Swami Vivekananda on the essence of self, Rabindra Nath Tagore on mind being free of fear and the famous quote written outside the Parliament of India ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbhakam’ that the world is one family and all the humankind is part of that family. Now we humans have to work together to deal with this current pandemic.

 Earlier,Prof. Swarnjit Kaur, Coordinator, PU-ISSER while welcoming the guests shared that this was the fourth webinar organised by the Institute in the month of July. She also pointed out that that  P. U authorities with Vice Chancellor, Professor Raj Kumar  at the helm of affairs has given momentum to the webinar culture in the University. She also introduced the speaker and the theme of the seminar with the participants.

The discussion was followed by the interaction where Prof Ronki Ram, Dean Faculty of Arts, also shared his comments on changing paradigm of International Relations and Prof. Swarnjit Kaur asking about India’s role in new planetary geopolitics. Interestingly, undergraduate students of ISSER Anmol, Himanshi and Tanya posed a few interesting questions. The webinar concluded with a vote of thanks.

Web lecture by Uday Mahurkar at PU

Department of History, PU, Chandigarh and Panjab University Alumni Association (PUAA) jointly organized a Web Lecture of Shri Uday Mahurkar, a senior journalist, author and interpreter of history.About120participants participated in the web lecture .

Shri Mahurkar, the distinguished speaker delivered his lecture on, “Chattrapati Shivaji: A New Discovery”in an analytical and thought-provoking manner.His candid, comprehensive and critical presentation was indeed spell-binding. Professor Anju Suri, Chairperson, Department of History was the Director of the Webinar, Professor Deepti Gupta, Dean Alumni Relations and Chairperson, Department of English was the Convener and Dr. Priyatosh Sharma, Associate Professor, Department of History was the Co-Convener of the Webinar.

TheVice Chancellor, Prof Raj Kumar applauded the joint effort of the Department of History and PUAA for organizing the Web Lecture on an endearing historical personality of Shivaji. In his inaugural remarks, he said that great deeds make great personalities like Shivaji. Chattrapati Shivaji’s life and achievements impart inspiration to one and all. His leadership role, his organizational skills, his courageous military exploits earned him the reputation of a great ruler and won him glory. The spirit of nationalism may be imbibed from the heroic deeds of Chattrapati Shivaji.The present generation must preserve the memories of the great leader in Shivaji and pay tribute to his daring acts in fighting back Mughal tyranny. Professor Raj Kumar expressed his concern that the role of Shivaji must be discussed at length in the scholarly works to form a fair estimate of his life and personality.

Dr. Anju Suri, Professor and Chairperson of the Department of History introduced Chattrapati Shivaji as a powerful ruler known for his chivalry, courage and heroism. He set out for military campaigns with a strong conviction and determination to win and he tasted victory after victory to establish himself as a strong ruler. He possessed a rare combination of intellect and diplomacy. His role as a great organizer and a strategist cannot be underestimated.

The distinguished speaker, Shri Uday Mahurkar in his insightful and intellectual lecture addressed Shivaji as an Emperor instead of Chattrapati. He assessed the role of Shivaji on the basis of four determinants, which are generally required by a person, for being the most powerful Emperor and Shivaji qualifies all of them successfully. Shivaji expanded his empire by way of his conquering abilities to the length of 1600 kms from Poona to the land beyond Chennai. His strategic skills and command of his army instilled such enthusiasm among his soldiers that they continued with the legacy of successive victories during the lifetime of Shivaji and even after his death. Within forty years since his demise, the Marathas reached Delhi and became a dominating force. Shivaji’s combating skills speak of his powerful personality. He strongly believed that the attack is the best form of defence. He was a diplomat par excellence and knew to play his cards well. He handled his Mughal enemies including Aurangzeb with diplomatic maneuvers and often made truce with them to break them soon after. Shivaji has always remained fearless before Aurangzeb whereas the latter was afraid of his strategic skills and intellectual abilities. Despite all resources and authority at his disposal, Aurangzeb was belittled by Shivaji in a combat pitted against him and this fact has been indicated by Aurangzeb in his will too. The historical records have praised Shivaji and addressed him as ‘the greatest constructive genius’. His warfare achievements are as much appreciated as his welfare achievements. Shivaji took up several measures for welfare of his subjects including the issue of seed loans by the State to the farmers. As far as his social reforms are concerned, Shivaji allowed those who had defected Hinduism to embrace Islam to come back to Hinduism.Secondly, he taught each class to fight. Dalit Regiment of Maharashtra could be organized because of this initiative of Shivaji. Shivaji should find more space in historical books and should be given higher status as an Emperor.

The highly informative and incisive lecture was followed by Question-Answer Session conducted by Dr. Priyatosh Sharma of the Department of History.The lecture was joined by experts from academic, scientists, researchers, students and faculty members from various diverse Departments and Universities across India. The lecture ended with the formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Vinay Kumar, Secretary, Faculty of Arts, Panjab University, Chandigarh.

अमृता के ‘बिरह के सुल्तान’ लोक संस्कृति के पुरोधा भी हैं

शिव के गीत भारत पाकिस्तान में घर घर गली गली महफिल महफिल इस क़दर मशहूर हैं सभी आम – ओ – खास उनको लोक गीत ही समझकर गाते सुनते हैं लट्ठे दी चादर , ईक मेरी अख कासनी, जुगनी, म्धानियाँ हाय ओह … आदि  जैसे गीत हमारी संस्कृति का हिस्सा  ही नहीं बल्कि पंजाबी को द्निया में अहम स्थान दिलाने के श्रेय के भी अधिकारी है शिव पंजाब का विद्यापति है।

‘इक कुड़ी जिहदा नाम मोहब्बत गुम है’ उनकी शाहकार रचना  में भावनाओं का उभार, करुणा, जुदाई और प्रेमी के दर्द का बखूबी चित्रण है।

शिव कुमार बटालवी के गीतों में ‘बिरह की पीड़ा’ इस कदर थी कि उस दौर की प्रसिद्ध कवयित्री अमृता प्रीतम ने उन्हें ‘बिरह का सुल्तान’ नाम दे दिया। शिव कुमार बटालवी यानी पंजाब का वह शायर जिसके गीत हिंदी में न आकर भी वह बहुत लोकप्रिय हो गया। उसने जो गीत अपनी गुम हुई महबूबा के लिए बतौर इश्तहार लिखा था वो जब फ़िल्मों तक पहुंचा तो मानो हर कोई उसकी महबूबा को ढूंढ़ते हुए गा रहा था

वे 1967 में वे साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार पाने वाले सबसे कम उम्र के साहित्यकार बन गये। साहित्य अकादमी (भारत की साहित्य अकादमी) ने यह सम्मान पूरण भगत की प्राचीन कथा पर आधारित उनके महाकाव्य नाटिका ‘लूणा’ (1965) के लिए दिया, जिसे आधुनिक पंजाबी साहित्य की एक महान कृति माना जाता है और जिसने आधुनिक पंजाबी किस्सा गोई की एक नई शैली की स्थापना की।

        शिव कुमार का जन्म 23 जुलाई 1936 को गांव बड़ा पिंड लोहटिया, शकरगढ़ तहसील (अब पाकिस्तान के पंजाब प्रांत में) राजस्व विभाग के ग्राम तहसीलदार पंडित कृष्ण गोपाल और गृहिणी शांति देवी के घर में हुआ। भारत के विभाजन के बाद उनका परिवार गुरदासपुर जिले के बटाला चला आया, जहां उनके पिता ने पटवारी के रूप में अपना काम जारी रखा और बाल शिव ने प्राथमिक शिक्षा पाई। लाहौर में पंजाबी भाषा की क़िताबें छापने वाले प्रकाशक ‘सुचेत क़िताब घर’ ने 1992 में शिव कुमार बटालवी की चुनिंदा शायरी की एक क़िताब ‘सरींह दे फूल’ छापी.

5 फ़रवरी 1967 को उनका विवाह गुरदासपुर जिले के किरी मांग्याल की ब्राह्मण कन्या अरुणा से हुआ  और बाद में दंपती को दो बच्चे मेहरबां (1968) और पूजा (1969) हुए। 1968 में चंडीगढ़ चले गये, जहां वे स्टेट बैंक ऑफ इंडिया में जन संपर्क अधिकरी बने, वहीं अरुणा बटालवी पुंजाबी विश्वविद्यालय पटियाला के पुस्तकालयमें कार्यरत रहीं। आज शिव कुमार बटालवी का परिवार केनेडा में रहता है।

ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों मे रहने वाले किसानों ओर बाकी लोगों के संपर्क में आए ओर उन्हीं की बातें अपने लेखन में ढाली उनको जानने वाले लोग उनकी जीवन शैली और दिनचर्या के बारे में बताते हैं के वो राँझे की सी जिंदगी जीते थे वह ऐसे कवि थे जो कि अपनी रचना को स्वयं लयबद्ध करते थे।

        बटालवी की नज्मों को सबसे पहले नुसरत फतेह अली खान ने अपनी आवाज दी. नुसरत ने उनकी कविता ‘मायें नी मायें मेरे गीतां दे नैणां विच’ को गाया था. इसके बाद तो जगजीत सिंह – चित्रा सिंह, रबी शेरगिल, हंस राज हंस, दीदार सिंह परदेसी और सुरिंदर कौर जैसे कई गायकों ने बटालवी की कविताएं गाईं. उस शायर के लिखे हुए गीत – अज्ज दिन चढ्या, इक कुड़ी जिद्दा नां मुहब्बत, मधानियां, लट्ठे दी चादर, अक्ख काशनी आदि आज भी न केवल लोगों की जुबां पर हैं बल्कि बॉलीवुड भी इन्हें समय समय पर अपनी फिल्मों को हिट करने के लिए यूज़ करता आ रहा है. नुसरत फतेह अली, महेंद्र कपूर, जगजीत सिंह, नेहा भसीन, गुरुदास मान, आबिदा, हंस राज हंस….

     “असां ते जोबन रुत्ते मरना…” यानी “मुझे यौवन में मरना है, क्यूंकि जो यौवन में मरता है वो फूल या तारा बनता है, यौवन में तो कोई किस्मत वाला ही मरता है” कहने वाले शायर की ख़्वाहिश ऊपर वाले ने पूरी भी कर दी. मात्र छत्तीस वर्ष की उम्र में शराब, सिगरेट और टूटे हुए दिल के चलते 7 मई 1973 को वो चल बसे. लेकिन, जाने से पहले शिव ‘लूणा’ जैसा महाकाव्य लिख गये, जिसके लिए उन्हें सबसे कम उम्र में साहित्य अकादमी का पुरूस्कार दिया गया. मात्र इकतीस वर्ष की उम्र में. ‘लूणा’ को पंजाबी साहित्य में ‘मास्टरपीस’ का दर्ज़ा प्राप्त है और जगह जगह इसका नाट्य-मंचन होता आया है.

शिव को राजनीतिक चुनोतियों का भी सामना करना पड़ा  उन्होने पंजाबी ओर हिन्दी को हिन्दू – सिक्ख में बँटते भी देखा ओर इस बात का पुरजोर विरोध भी किया, अपनी मातृभाषा को इस तरह बँटते देखना असहनीय था।  लोगों के दोहरे व्यवहार और नकलीपन की वजह से उन्होंने कवि सम्मेलनों में जाना बंद कर दिया था. एक मित्र के बार-बार आग्रह करने पर वे 1970 में बम्बई के एक कवि सम्मलेन में शामिल हुए थे. मंच पर पहुँचने के बाद जब उन्होंने बोला तो पूरे हॉल में सन्नाटा छा गया. उन्होंने बोला कि आज हर व्यक्ति खुद को कवि समझने लगा है, गली में बैठा कोई भी आदमी कवितायें लिख रहा है. इतना बोलने के बाद उन्होंने अपनी सबसे प्रसिद्ध रचना ‘इक कुड़ी जिदा नाम मोहब्बत है, गुम है’ सुनाई. इस पूरे पाठ के दौरान हॉल में सन्नाटा बना रहा. सच कहा जाए तो शिव कुमार कभी दुःख से बाहर निकल ही नहीं पाए. उन्हें हर समय कुछ न कुछ काटता ही रहा.

एक साक्षात्कार के दौरान शिव ने कहा आदमी, जो है, वो एक धीमी मौत मर रहा है. और ऐसा हर इंटेलेक्चुअल के साथ हो रहा है, होगा.”

PU All Set for issuing Online Degrees Through NAD

Panjab University Examination branches are all set to upload the Examination data on National Academic Depository (NAD) for awarding Online Degrees and DMCs etc from the current academic session, informed Prof. Parvinder Singh, Controller of Examination. He added that in this regard reasonable measures have already been taken including legal agreement and registration of candidates from affiliated colleges and teaching departments.  

In the present situation due to Covid 19 pandemic, it is felt many candidates may not be able to get Examination related testimonials due to lockdown of administrative  offices at the moment. He also shared that it is the need of hour to initiate online mode of issuance of Degree/DMCs to all our eligible PG students as well as Ph D scholars for which NAD registration is must.

Till date, data of 35000 students has been uploaded on National Academic Depository (NAD) for Post Graduates and Ph D students of the academic sessions 2018-19 and 2019-20. More than 800 research scholars have enrolled and due to Covid19 pandemic about 110 scholars have already downloaded their PhD degrees from NAD. Out of the data of 35000 students, approximately the data of 15000 students has been verified as authentic academic data which can also be downloaded by the students of PU affiliated colleges and teaching departments.  

CoE shared that due to present pandemic situation and for further transparency, efficiency ,the Online degrees and DMCs issuance by Panjab University Examination system will not only bring a big relief to the students but also is  another examination reform endeavour for the credibility of examination system.

National Academic Depository (NAD) is a 24X7 online store house of all academic awards viz.certificates, diplomas, degrees, mark-sheets etc. duly digitised and lodged by academic institutions / boards / eligibility assessment bodies. NAD not only ensures easy access to and retrieval of an academic award but also validates and guarantees its authenticity and safe storage.

The NAD provides students convenient access to their degrees without the risk of loosing, spoiling or damaging them. PU has signed an agreement with National Securities Depository Limited(NSDL), a central security depository based in Mumbai, for uploading the degree on the NAD, an online storehouse of academic awards. The students  have to register themselves on NAD where all their documents will be made available for easy retrieval in the future. The degrees will be available permanently on the portal giving round-the-clock access to them for any academic or professional purpose

अजय नारायण शर्मा ‘अज्ञानी’, चंडीगढ़:

संस्कृत भाषा का कोई सानी नहीं है। यह अत्यंत वैज्ञानिक व विलक्षण भाषा है जो अनंत संभावनाएं संजोए है।

अंग्रेजी में
A QUICK BROWN FOX JUMPS OVER THE LAZY DOG
यह एक प्रसिद्ध वाक्य है। अंग्रेजी वर्णमाला के सभी अक्षर इसमें समाहित हैं। किन्तु इसमें कुछ कमियाँ भी हैं, या यों कहिए कि कुछ विलक्षण कलकारियाँ किसी अंग्रेजी वाक्य से हो ही नहीं सकतीं। इस पंक्ति में :-

1) अंग्रेजी अक्षर 26 हैं और यहां जबरन 33 का उपयोग करना पड़ा है। चार O हैं और A,E,U,R दो-दो हैं।
2) अक्षरों का ABCD.. यह स्थापित क्रम नहीं दिख रहा। सब अस्तव्यस्त है।

अब संस्कृत में चमत्कार देखिये!

क:खगीघाङ्चिच्छौजाझाञ्ज्ञोटौठीडढण:।
तथोदधीन पफर्बाभीर्मयोSरिल्वाशिषां सह।।

अर्थात्– पक्षियों का प्रेम, शुद्ध बुद्धि का, दूसरे का बल अपहरण करने में पारंगत, शत्रु-संहारकों में अग्रणी, मन से निश्चल तथा निडर और महासागर का सर्जन करनहार कौन? राजा मय कि जिसको शत्रुओं के भी आशीर्वाद मिले हैं।

आप देख सकते हैं कि संस्कृत वर्णमाला के सभी 33 व्यंजन इस पद्य में आ जाते हैं। इतना ही नहीं, उनका क्रम भी यथायोग्य है।

एक ही अक्षर का अद्भुत अर्थ विस्तार।
माघ कवि ने शिशुपालवधम् महाकाव्य में केवल “भ” और “र”, दो ही अक्षरों से एक श्लोक बनाया है-

भूरिभिर्भारिभिर्भीभीराभूभारैरभिरेभिरे।
भेरीरेभिभिरभ्राभैरूभीरूभिरिभैरिभा:।।

अर्थात् धरा को भी वजन लगे ऐसे वजनदार, वाद्य यंत्र जैसी आवाज निकालने वाले और मेघ जैसे काले निडर हाथी ने अपने दुश्मन हाथी पर हमला किया।

किरातार्जुनीयम् काव्य संग्रह में केवल “न” व्यंजन से अद्भुत श्लोक बनाया है और गजब का कौशल प्रयोग करके भारवि नामक महाकवि ने कहा है –

न नोननुन्नो नुन्नोनो नाना नाना नना ननु।
नुन्नोSनुन्नो ननुन्नेनो नानेना नन्नुनन्नुनुत्।।

अर्थ- जो मनुष्य युद्ध में अपने से दुर्बल मनुष्य के हाथों घायल हुआ है वह सच्चा मनुष्य नहीं है। ऐसे ही अपने से दुर्बल को घायल करता है वो भी मनुष्य नहीं है। घायल मनुष्य का स्वामी यदि घायल न हुआ हो तो ऐसे मनुष्य को घायल नहीं कहते और घायल मनुष्य को घायल करें वो भी मनुष्य नहीं है।

अब हम एक ऐसा उदहारण देखेंगे जिसमे महायमक अलंकार का प्रयोग किया गया है। इस श्लोक में चार पद हैं, बिलकुल एक जैसे, किन्तु सबके अर्थ अलग-अलग –

विकाशमीयुर्जगतीशमार्गणा विकाशमीयुर्जगतीशमार्गणाः।
विकाशमीयुर्जगतीशमार्गणा विकाशमीयुर्जगतीशमार्गणाः।।

अर्थात् – अर्जुन के असंख्य बाण सर्वत्र व्याप्त हो गए जिनसे शंकर के बाण खण्डित कर दिए गए। इस प्रकार अर्जुन के रण कौशल को देखकर दानवों को मारने वाले शंकर के गण आश्चर्य में पड़ गए। शंकर और तपस्वी अर्जुन के युद्ध को देखने के लिए शंकर के भक्त आकाश में आ पहुँचे।

संस्कृत की विशेषता है कि संधि की सहायता से इसमें कितने भी लम्बे शब्द बनाये जा सकते हैं। ऐसा ही एक शब्द इस चित्र में है, जिसमें योजक की सहायता से अलग अलग शब्दों को जोड़कर 431 अक्षरों का एक ही शब्द बनाया गया है। यह न केवल संस्कृत अपितु किसी भी साहित्य का सबसे लम्बा शब्द है। (चित्र संलग्न है…)

संस्कृत में यह श्लोक पाई (π) का मान दशमलव के 31 स्थानों तक शुद्ध कर देता है।

गोपीभाग्यमधुव्रात-श्रुग्ङिशोदधिसन्धिग।
खलजीवितखाताव गलहालारसंधर।।

श्रृंखला समाप्त करने से पहले भगवन श्री कृष्णा की महिमा का गान करने वाला एक श्लोक प्रस्तुत है जिसकी रचना भी एक ही अक्षर से की गयी है।

दाददो दुद्ददुद्दादी दाददो दूददीददोः।
दुद्दादं दददे दुद्दे दादाददददोऽददः॥

यहाँ पर मैंने बहुत ही काम उदाहरण लिए हैं, किन्तु ऐसे और इनसे भी कहीं प्रभावशाली उल्लेख संस्कृत साहित्य में असंख्य बार आते हैं। कभी इस बहस में न पड़ें कि संस्कृत अमुक भाषा जैसा कर सकती है कि नहीं, बस यह जान लें, जो संस्कृत कर सकती है, वह कहीं और नहीं हो सकता।

PU Gets Grant of 1.40 Crores from Getty Foundation for Gandhi Bhawan

The Department of Gandhian and Peace Studies,  Panjab University, Chandigarh has received a grant of  Rs 1 crore 40 Lakhs from the Getty Foundation, USA as an announcement“ Keeping It Modern Grant”. As an exceptional case, this is the second grant given by the Getty Foundation for Gandhi Bhawan. Earlier in 2015 PU received grant of around 87 Lakhs Rs for the Conservation Management Plan(CMP) of Gandhi Bhawan.

Professor Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, expressed that this excellent announcement of grant for Gandhi Bhawan will enable Panjab University to do more research based projects related  to Architecture and Heritage. This will boost the morale of the faculty and students to take up similar projects in the future. Such grants for innovative techniques will take a University to a new level of research. As Panjab University has a rich history, iconic architectural heritage and artefacts too, we appreciate such grants for preserving our repository of heritage for future generations, he added. He congratulated Dr. Manish Sharma and his entire team for bringing such positive and inspiring news during this pandemic. 

It is pertinent to mention here that Gandhi Bhawan is the only building of any Institution of India which has received the grant in 2015 and now in 2020 again. Earlier the work against grant received in 2015 was completed in 2017 with the support of the inhouse PU team, CMP was  prepared by Development and Research Organisation for Nature, Arts and Heritage (DRONAH), Gurgaon with support of IIT Madras and other associate experts which was duly approved by the Chandigarh Heritage Conservation Committee and guides all Implementation works for the site now.

With the approval of the project by Getty Foundation, now the major conservation works of the exterior which include the conservation of the exterior cladding panels and the reflecting pool are to be undertaken, thus completing total conservation of the Gandhi Bhawan exteriors. The project team includes Gandhi Bhawan, Chandigarh College of Architecture and DRONAH architects, conservation architects and landscape experts. The project will be started by November 2020 with all implementation works to be completed in a period of 1 year after which it will be monitored for another year to determine the impact of the water filled pool on the microclimate of the interiors of Gandhi Bhawan.

Webinar by UIPS on “Sharing Joy of Experiencing Product Development and Technology Transfers”

University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS) in association with Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA), Punjab Branch & DST-funded Technology Enabling Centre (TEC), Panjab University, Chandigarh, organized a webinar for the faculty and students under the Expert Talk Series on “Sharing Joy of Experiencing Product Development and Technology Transfers” by Dr Subhash Kumar Pande, Technical Director & Principal Advisor, Ex-Senior Vice President Corporate QA, Zydus, Ahmedabad.

Dr Pande has a vast experience of more than 30 years in Pharmaceutical giants like Lupin, Ranbaxy, Alkem, Glenmark and Cadila. He shared that how experiences gained during Ph.D work helped him a lot in the Manufacturing and Quality Assurance area when he joined the industry. He further added that despite the progress of many ongoing research & product development activities at the academic and Pharmaceutical industry levels, majority of them remain in the libraries or as legacy data due to lack of consistent and scientific approach. He touched upon the key points like need of scale up batch; key and non key process parameters; importance of quality control and quality assurance data. He reiterated his belief that “any technology developed mislays its value, if it does not reach the commercial scale and to the common man”. Looking into the current scenario it is the need of the hour that the technology development initiated, should be targeted for successful scale manufacturing to serve the society. Thus, risk-based scientific, continued efforts, encompassing learning from previous failures should be followed & applied, to accomplish the profession and serve the humanity

Earlier,Professor Indu Pal Kaur, Chairperson UIPS & Secretary, IPA, Punjab Branch, extended a warm welcome to everyone. She shared that such talks will broaden the vision of students and research scholars to translate their research into successful technology transfers, for the benefit of the society.

Professor O. P. Katare, President, IPA, Punjab Branch, shared his pearls of wisdom and introduced the speaker.

Professor Manu Sharma, Co-coordinator, TEC, Panjab University briefed the audience about the current technologies available with the University and the various modes of executing research to tech transfers.

A highly interactive Q&A session was held at the end. Professor Bhupinder Singh Bhoop, Vice-President, IPA, Punjab Branch, concluded the event by presenting his valuable views and a vote of thanks.

All the faculty members of UIPS joined the session. More than 200 participants from Panjab University and other National and International Institutes attended the webinar. 

Webinar on Startup Ecosystem and Grant Writing organized by BioNEST- PU

The Bioincubator of the Panjab University, BioNEST-PU organized an online interactive session-cum-webinar entitled, “Introduction to Startup Ecosystem and Grant Writing”. The webinar was hosted by the incubator to enable young startups and researchers learn about opportunities for growth in the startup ecosystem. The speakers aimed at enumerating the opportunities in the startup ecosystem available for life-science innovators, to help young innovators with the basics of grant-writing for flawless project proposals.

Prof. Raj Kumar,Vice Chancellor of the Panjab University opened the webinar with encouraging words for all the researchers on-board to keep working for their growth from wherever they are. He also highlighted how the Bioincubator of the University has been actively functioning even during the lockdown with innovators getting involved in the online seminars, applying for various projects, and receiving government funding. Professor Raj Kumar proudly informed the audience that the BioNEST has garnered financial support of over 1.27 Cr from its corporate allies under industry-academia bonding. He also emphasized on the need for industry-academia collaborations and why these collaborations are needed now more than ever.

Dr. Rohit Sharma, the Project Leader of BioNEST-PU informed how their team had received an overwhelming response for the webinar in just one day after it was announced online. “The webinar got an inquisitive audience of more than 100 participants and that shows how excited and interested we all are to find out solutions to the problem of unemployment, the youth is looking forward to opportunities for becoming job-providers.” Dr. Sharma said. Students and faculty from not just the university, but from the neighboring institutes as well as educational institutes from all over the country attended the session and remained present online throughout.

The speaker for the webinar, Dr. Ashutosh Pastor is managing Startup Incubation at the Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer at Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. He is supporting implementation of various funding programs for innovators and entrepreneurs in the Biotechnology domain like BIRAC BIG, SEED, LEAP, Pfizer-IIT Delhi Innovation and IP program, and many other government and CSR funded programs. Dr. Vikas Pandey, co-Founder and Managing Director of Valetude Primus Healthcare also joined as a guest speaker and shared his journey and learning’s as a startup.

Dr. Sharma informed that the BioNEST-PU has also been selected for a greater role to be played as a regional center for i-TTO. Innovation Technology Transfer office (i-TTO) is a regional TTO established at Foundation for Innovative and Technology Transfer (FITT) under National Biopharma Mission of BIRAC with a mandate to assist the individual innovators, startup, bioincubators for IP, technology transfer and Academia- Industry collaborations. Dr Tripta Dixit, Deputy Project Manager at I-TTO briefed the audience about the significance of iTTO.

सेमेस्टर प्रणाली हटाने व परीक्षा शुल्क वापस करने बाबत शिक्षा मंत्री को सौंपा ज्ञापन: एबीवीपी हरियाणा

अखिल भारतीय विद्यार्थी परिषद ने माननीय शिक्षा मंत्री मान कंवरपाल गुर्जर को 7 सूत्री ज्ञापन सौंप कर शिक्षा क्षेत्र से जुड़ी विभिन्न समस्याओं पर अपने सुझाव ज्ञापित किए। ज्ञापन के दौरान विद्यार्थी परिषद हरियाणा का एक प्रतिनिधिमंडल जिसमें प्रांत अध्यक्ष प्रा. राजेंद्र धीमान, प्रांत मंत्री सुमित जागलान, प्रांत संगठन मंत्री श्याम सिंह राजावत एवं प्रांत कार्यकारिणी सदस्य सुश्री पुरनूर वशिष्ट मौजूद रहे। विद्यार्थी परिषद हरियाणा ने शिक्षा मंत्री को दिये अपने ज्ञापन में स्नातक स्तर पर गैर तकनीकी कक्षाओं में सेमेस्टर प्रणाली हटाने, परीक्षा शुल्क वापस करने, रि-अपीयर के विद्यार्थियों को आ रही परेशानी एवं शिक्षा क्षेत्र की ओर समस्याओं को लेकर ज्ञापन प्रेषित कर उनके समाधान की मांग की है।

        एबीवीपी हरियाणा के प्रदेश मंत्री सुमित जागलान ने कहा कि विद्यार्थी परिषद की लम्बे समय से एक मांग गैर तकनीकी कोर्सों में स्नातक स्तर पर सेमेस्टर प्रणाली को समाप्त करने की भी है । वर्ष में सेमेस्टर सिस्टम की वजह से 2 बार परीक्षा होने के कारण 4 से 5 महीने इन्हीं परीक्षा को कराने में निकल जाते हैं। जिसके कारण विद्यार्थी का काफी वक्त सिर्फ परीक्षाओं में निकल जाता है और विद्यार्थी वर्षभर परीक्षाओं के तनाव में रहता है । परीक्षाओं के अलावा किसी भी पाठ्येतर गतिविधि में विद्यार्थी भाग नहीं ले पाता जिससे उसका सर्वांगीण विकास नहीं हो पाता । इसके अलावा दो बार परीक्षा होने के कारण यूजीसी की गाइडलाइन के तहत 180 क्लास का नियम भी अच्छे से पालन नहीं हो रहा है। छात्रों को अतिरिक्त अध्ययन के लिए समय नहीं मिलता है परिणामस्वरूप उन्हें विषय का सिर्फ मूल ज्ञान होता है। इसके अलावा प्रथम सेमेस्टर का विद्यार्थी जब तक कॉलेज में आकर दो से तीन महीनों में कॉलेज के वातावरण और पढ़ाई के साथ खुद का संतुलन बना पाता है तब तक उसकी परीक्षाएं आ जाती हैं और इस कारण विषय को रटना ही एकमात्र विकल्प बचता है। विद्यार्थी विषय को समझने की बजाय सिर्फ रटना और परीक्षा देना इसी में रह जाते हैं। कभी-कभी, शिक्षक कम समय के कारण विषय का पूरा ज्ञान नहीं दे पाते हैं। इन सब खामियों की वजह से विद्यार्थी परिषद की शुरू से मांग रही है कि तकनीकी कोर्सों को छोड़कर बाकी गैर तकनीकी (B.A., B.SC, B.COM) में सेमेस्टर सिस्टम खत्म होना चाहिए और वार्षिक प्रणाली लागू होनी चाहिए ।

         इसके इलावा विद्यार्थियों से परीक्षा शुल्क लिया गया है जबकि परीक्षा नहीं हो रही है तो परीक्षा शुल्क को वापस किया जाए, रिअपीयर के विद्यार्थियों के लिए नोटिफिकेशन में स्थिति स्पष्ठ नहीं की गई है इसलिए इस स्थिति को स्पष्ट किया जाए व इस बात का ध्यान रखा जाए कि किसी भी विद्यार्थी का 1 वर्ष खराब ना हो, आगामी सत्र के लिये नया शैक्षणिक कैलेंडर जारी किया जाए, कोरोना महामारी के कारण आगामी सत्र विलंब से आरंभ होगा इसलिए सिलेबस को आनुपातिक रूप से कम किया जाए, विश्वविद्यालयों एवं महाविद्यालयों के प्लेसमेंट सेल सक्रिय नही है इसलिए विश्वविद्यालयों एवं महाविद्यालयों के प्लेसमेंट सेल को टारगेट बेस्ड बनाया जाए। प्लेसमेंट सेल को छात्रों को रोजगार दिलाने के टारगेट दिए जाएं, हरियाणा बोर्ड की 10वीं 12वीं की परीक्षाओं को लेकर स्थिति स्पष्ट की जाए आदि मांगों/सुझावों को रखा है।

          एबीवीपी हरियाणा के प्रदेश मंत्री सुमित जागलान ने कहा कि, छात्र हितों की इन मांगों को जल्द से जल्द पूरा किया जाए नहीं, अगर सरकार इन मांगों को पूरा नहीं करती है, प्रदेशभर में विद्यार्थी परिषद एक बड़े आंदोलन के लिए तैयार है।
