Demokratic Front, Chandigarh – 20 March :

The decision now rests with the administration, and it remains to be seen whether the government will listen to the voice of the people or issue a dictatorial order.

On Wednesday, the office bearers of the Chandigarh Property Consultant Association, including Kamal Gupta, Jitendra Singh, Vikram Chopra, Gaurav Kansal, Sanjeev Kumar, and Naval, once again visited Chandigarh’s Deputy Commissioner Nishant Yadav to submit a memorandum.

In fact, almost all public welfare and social organizations in Chandigarh have already submitted memorandums to the government opposing the steep hike in collector rates. However, the association today urged DC Yadav that a public survey should be conducted to gather residents’ opinions on the collector rates. They also demanded that a period of 3-4 months be granted before implementing the rate hike to allow pending deals to be completed.

Association President Kamal Gupta and Secretary Jatinder Singh expressed that the government’s decision to increase rates without considering public welfare is incomprehensible. They insisted that the government should take public demand into account before making a final decision.
