A path breaking initiative in bringing quality improvement in learning levels of children

Chandigarh, 27 November,2019. A Booklet containing details about the Project ‘Phoenix’ which is already implemented in the Government schools of UT, Chandigarh was released by Sh.V.P.Badnore, Administrator UT, Chandigarh and Governor Of Punjab  at Raj Bhawan, UT, Chandigarh. This booklet will be helpful for any institution/teacher/student in any part of the country for understanding the project.

The Project ‘Phoenix’ was conceived, developed and was launched by Secretary Education, Sh. B.L. Sharma on 5th October, 2018 to improve the quality of School Education and to bring necessary improvement in the learning levels of all children studying at Elementary level. Through the Project , the Department is able to track each and every learning outcome in respect of every subject in relation to each student.

The Project is aimed at the application of appropriate and innovative pedagogies during teaching learning process. The experts from the Department of Education devised the Progress Sheet which is the bedrock of the project. Thirty Three handbooks with multiple choice and open ended questions were designed in the month of September, 2018 for all the subjects at Elementary level i.e.  03 books each, for class I & II, 04 books each for class III to V and 05 books each for class VI to VIII to assess the learning levels of the students for classes I to VIII. The Handbooks are helpful for teachers as these handbooks provide detail/illustration of the processes /methodologies that can be followed by the subject teachers for specific topics.

Furthermore, A Web Application has also been developed for leveraging technology in implementation of the project which enables the teachers , Principals and senior functionaries of the department to access and view the learning outcomes of  each and every students, of each and every section/class and of each and every school on the click of the button.

03 persons arrested for consuming liquor at public places

        A case U/S 68-1(B) Punjab Police Act 2007 & 510 IPC has been registered in PS-17, Chandigarh against 03 persons who were arrested while consuming liquor at public places near SCO No. 1066, Sector-22/B, Chandigarh on 26.11.2019. Later they were released on bail.

Accident

A case FIR No. 299, U/S 279, 304A IPC has been registered in PS-Ind. Area, Chandigarh on the statement of Ajay Kumar R/o # 1691, Sector-29/B, Chandigarh against unknown driver of unknown vehicle hit to pedestrian person age about 35 years (unidentified) near Kerosene Pump Sector-29, Chandigarh on 26-11-2019. He was lifted to GMCH-32 where duty doctor declared him brought dead. Investigation of the case is in progress.

Snatching

A lady resident of Sector-15, Chandigarh reported that unknown person occupant of Scooty (Honda Activa) snatched away purse containing cash Rs. 1200/-, SBI ATM, Aadhar card copy near Market, Sector-15Chandigarh on 20.11.2019. A case FIR No. 232, U/S 379, 356 IPC has been registered in PS-11, Chandigarh. Investigation of case is in progress.

Kaaru Sau R/o # 18, Village-Daria, Chandigarh reported that two unknown persons (pedestrian) snatched away cash Rs. 12,700/-, & mobile phone from complainant near Petrol Pump, Park, Sector-27Chandigarh on 26.11.2019. A case FIR No. 270, U/S 379, 356 IPC has been registered in PS-26, Chandigarh. Investigation of case is in progress.

Dowry

          A lady resident of Sector-41, Chandigarh alleged that her husband & others resident of Distt. Faridabad, (HR) harassed complainant to bring more dowry. A case FIR No. 158, U/S 406, 498-A has been registered in PS-Women, Chandigarh. Investigation of the case is in progress.

MV theft

          Sandeep Kumar R/o # 157, Karala, Distt. Mohali, (PB) reported that unknown person stole away complainant’s M/Cycle No. PB65Q7093 parked near Axis Bank, Sector-40/A, Chandigarh on 20-11-2019. A case FIR No. 432, U/S 379 IPC has been registered in PS-39, Chandigarh. Investigation of the case is in progress.

PUAA to host First Ever Annual Global Alumni Meet

Korel, CHANDIGARH – 27th Nov.

            Panjab University Alumni Association (PUAA), Chandigarh is
hosting first ever 2 day Annual Global Alumni Meet on 28-29, November,
2019 at PU Law Auditorium.

          The Guest of Honours of the event would be Mr. Sunil Arora, Chief Election Commissioner of India and Mia Yen, Consul General of Canada in Chandigarh. The Chief Guest is PU Alumnus and has shown his interest to visit Hostel No. 1, where he was staying for few months. Similarly, there are other Alumni who would be visiting their hostels for a nostalgic trip. Various distinguished Alumni will be honoured at the event.

           Prof. Deepti Gupta, informed that the main objective behind organizing this event is to revive all alumni chapters spread all over India and the ones established overseas. Already 250 confirmations with families have been received from India and 7 countries including US, UK, Canada, Philippines, Singapore, New Zealand and Afghanistan.

          During the two day event, there will be academic interactions apart from cultural and an award ceremony. A separate session on brand building for higher education institutes is being organized and will have presence of Mr. Sandeep Goyal, Advertising Veteran,  and Mr. Harit Nagpal, CEO, Tata Sky.

          Light, Sight and Sound play ‘Sat Guru Nanak Pargatya’ is also being organized to commemorate 550 years of Guru Nanak Dev Ji at Law Auditorium. Lectures by prominent scholars are being planned on the same which is being coordinated by University Institute of Fashion and Technology, PU.

          To mark 100 years of PU Honours School, a special programme of Lanterns and Lights is being organized in the Campus. Similarly, a panel discussion on ‘My Vision of PU 2025’ will have Professor Emeritus and former VCs of PU.

          A special exhibition of rare International Cartoons and Postal Stamps on Mahatma Gandhi by Dr. Surjit K. Dass is already displayed at Gandhi Bhawan to commemorate 150 years of Mahatma Gandhi. This exhibition will be open till 29th November, 2019.
