Canada shooting: several dead and suspect in custody in Fredericton

Four people, including two police officers, were killed in a shooting in the eastern Canadian city of Fredericton and one person was taken into custody, police said on Friday.

Police in Fredericton, a city of about 56,000 that is the capital of the province of New Brunswick, said in a post on Twitter that the incident was under investigation and there were multiple fatalities.

Another police tweet said two of the four people killed were police officers but gave no details and did not release the names of the victims. The suspect is being treated for serious injuries.

Local media images showed emergency vehicles converging on a tree-lined residential street. Nearby facilities were closed and authorities told residents to stay locked in their homes.

Canadian Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale said the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) were assisting Fredericton authorities.

New Brunswick had only three homicide shootings in 2016, according to Statistics Canada.

Gun laws in Canada are more strict than in the United States but a proliferation of weapons has led to an increase in gun crimes in recent years.

“Awful news coming out of Fredericton,” Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Twitter. “My heart goes out to everyone affected by this morning’s shooting. We’re following the situation closely.”

Three RCMP officers were killed and two more were wounded in 2014 in Moncton, New Brunswick, about 195 km (121 miles) from Fredericton, in one of the worst incidents of its kind in Canada.

Last month, a a gunman walked down a busy Toronto street, killing two people and wounding 13 others before turning his weapon on himself.Toronto, Canada’s largest city, has had 241 shooting incidents this year, resulting in 30 deaths, a 30 percent increase in fatalities.

Rishi Kapoor has called British Airways “racist”

Mumbai, Aug 10 Demokratic Front:

Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor has called British Airways “racist” after an Indian passenger and his family were allegedly asked to de-board a flight in the UK.

He said his own experience with the airline once was not pleasant.

“Racist. Don’t fly British Airways. We cannot be kicked around. Sad to hear about the Berlin child incident. I stopped flying British Airways after the cabin crew were rude and had attitude not once but twice even after being a first class passenger. Fly Jet Airways or Emirates. There is dignity,” Rishi tweeted on Thursday.

The incident took place on July 23, when the family was travelling from London to Berlin on a British Airways flight.

Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu has directed the aviation regulator to obtain a detailed report from British Airways over the incident.

The development comes after the passenger, identified as A.P. Pathak a Joint Secretary level officer in the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, complained that he and his family were discriminated against on racial lines.

Britain still on divide and rule policy against India

New Delhi, Aug 10, Demokratic Front –

Ahead of a pro-Khalistan rally scheduled in London on August 12, India on Thursday said it is for Britain to decide whether to allow an event that seeks to promote violence and secessionism.

“We have drawn their (Britain’s) attention to the fact that the event in London is a separatist activity, which impinges on India’s territorial integrity,” External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said.

“We have said that it seeks to propagate violence, secessionism and hatred. ”

“And of course, we expect them (Britain) to take into account the larger perspective of the relationship when they take a decision in such matters.”

Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), a human rights advocacy group with radical leaning, has announced that it will hold what it calls a “London Declaration” on an independence referendum for the Indian state of Punjab at Trafalgar Square in London on August 12.

Last month, India issued a demarche to Britain.

Following reports that similar events were being planned in other European countries as well as Canada and the US, Kumar said that Indian missions had been directed to take this up with the respective countries.

“We are aware that something similar is being planned in some other locations as well and we have written to our missions to take it up with the foreign offices of the respective countries,” he said.

Suresh Prabhu seeking stringent action against ‘british airways’ for “racist” conduct

Bureaucrat claimed family was offloaded at London airport

Minister for Civil Aviation Suresh Prabhu had asked the aviation regulator, DGCA to inquire into a complaint by a bureaucrat against British Airways for “unprofessional, rude and racist behaviour” after he and his family were offloaded from a flight from London to Berlin last month because their baby was crying.

“I have directed the DGCA to obtain detailed report from British Airways on the issue,” Mr Prabhu tweeted.

Meanwhile, the airline in a statement said that it was investigating the manner, hinting that the passengers might have been flouting safety procedures.

“It is a safety requirement for all airlines that passengers are seated and have their seatbelt fastened for take-off. We are investigating the complaint,” according to a statement from British Airways.

On August 3, Mr A.P. Pathak, wrote a letter to Minister of Civil Aviation Suresh Prabhu seeking stringent action against the airline for “racist” conduct.

The complainant, a joint-secretary with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, recounted the incident of July 23 and wrote that his son, seated separately, was crying during take-off from London.

Mr Pathak wrote that the crew member called security to deboard him and his family along with another family which offered biscuits to his son.

India’s economy is elephant that’s starting to run: IMF

Commuters ride an escalator from Japnath metro station as vehicles are sitting in traffic are reflected in a window in New Delhi. India is on track to hold its position as one of the world’s fastest-growing economies as reforms start to pay off, according to the International Monetary Fund

After a shock cash ban in late 2016 and a disruptive nationwide sales tax last year, India’s economy is once again gaining momentum.

India is on track to hold its position as one of the world’s fastest-growing economies as reforms start to pay off, according to the International Monetary Fund.

The $2.6 trillion economy was described by Ranil Salgado, the IMF’s mission chief for India, as an elephant starting to run, with growth forecast at 7.3 percent in the fiscal year through March 2019 and 7.5 percent in the year after that. The nation accounts for about 15 percent of global growth, according to the Washington-based fund.

Key risks flagged by the IMF in its annual Article IV assessment of the economy include higher oil prices, tightening global financial conditions and tax revenue shortfalls. Authorities should take advantage of stronger growth to bring down debt levels, simplify the consumption tax system and continue to gradually tighten monetary policy, it said.

After a shock cash ban in late 2016 and a disruptive nationwide sales tax last year, India’s economy is once again gaining momentum. Growth reached the fastest pace in seven quarters in January through March, and high frequency indicators from purchasing managers’ surveys to auto sales data show the economy is likely to grow above 7 percent.

The government is due to release gross domestic product data on August 31 for the three months ended June. A high growth rate may not necessarily resonate with voters in elections next year as they continue to face issues such as unemployment and farm distress.

There are other risks. The rupee has plunged 7 percent against the dollar this year, the worst performer among major Asian currencies, threatening the inflation outlook. The Reserve Bank of India delivered its second straight interest rate hike last week as policy makers seek to maintain economic stability against a global backdrop of trade tensions and high oil prices.

Continuing structural reforms would be key to high growth, Salgado said in a conference call. Further rationalization of the goods and services tax would give maximum benefits, and labour reforms would be an incentive for companies to expand, he added.

Other key points from the report:

Recovery is underway led by an investment pickup External vulnerabilities remain contained, but have risen India’s export market share remains low; need to boost competitiveness There’s need for maintaining exchange rate flexibility FX intervention should be two-way and limited to disorderly market conditions Government debt and budget deficit key macroeconomic challenges Need labor, land and product market reforms for jobs growth More needs to be done to ensure health of state-run lenders.

Questions raised over feasibility of the State of Khalistan in context of London Conclave of Referendum 2020

By Pritm Singh Kumedan

As  per  reports  in  Newspapers,  a  U.S.A.  based  Organisation, ‘Sikhs  for  Justice’  in  holding  a  “Referendum-2020”  in  London  on  12th  August, 2018,  with  the  object  of  achieving  Khalistan  and  in  the  foot-steps  of  Pakistan  seceding  from  India.

It  is  the  duty  of  this  Organisation  and  all  other  protagonists  of  Khalistan  to  tell  Sikhs  all  over  the  World  and  also  others,  beforehand and  just  now-  about  the  difficulties  and  hardships  Khalistan  and  its  people  are  likely  to  face  and  undergo,  after  getting  a  Sovereign  State of  Khalistan  and  how  those  difficulties  and  problems  these  Khalistanis  will  solve.

Suppose  India  decides  overnight  “Khalistan  Granted  with  Immediate  Effect”  and  also  simultaneously  tells  Khalistanis  that  now  onwards,  India  will  not  have  any  relations  with  Khalistan and  that  India  will  not  be  even  on  speaking  terms  with  Khalistan- all  relations  cut  off.  Khalistan  becomes  a  land-locked  country  like  Nepal  with  only  access  to  outside  world  through  Pakistan.  India  cuts  off  all  communication  including  road,  rail,  telephone,  even  airspace.  Borders  sealed-  Visa system  introduced.

Likely  Difficulties  and  Problems.

The  very  first  thing  the  two  governments  of  India  and  Khalistan  will  have  to  decide  will  be:

  1. Territorial  Division:  Hindu  majority  Districts  and  Tehsils  go  to  India- Jalandhar,  Hoshiarpur,  Nawanshahar,  Pathankot  and  Fazilka  Districts  and  Anandpur  and  Nangal  Tehsils  go  to  India.  Rest  of  Punjab  goes  to  Khalistan.  Canal  Headworks  and  Hydel  Power  Projects  situated  in  these  territories  go  to  India.  Ropar  and  Harike  Headworks  remain  in  Khalistan.  No  Hydel  Power  House  remains  in  Khalistan.
  • Mode  of  Partition:  It  can  be  on  the  pattern  of  Pakistan  when  One  Million  people  were  killed  on  both  sides,  lakhs  of  women  kidnapped  and  raped,  immense  property  and  other  losses.  The choice  lies  with  Khalistanis.
  • However even  if  Peaceful  Transition  is  to  be  envisaged,  can  anyone  guarantee  that  it  will  not  be  a  violent  separation  and  parting of  ways and  in  spite  of  best  efforts  of  both  Governments  it  turns  violent  and  out  of  Government  Control.
  •  Exchange  of  Population:  Choice  with  Khalistanis.  If  there  is to  be  exchange  of  population  as  in  the  case  of  Pakistan-  50  lakh,  mostly  well-off  Sikhs  may  have  to  migrate  to  India  leaving  immeasurable  property and  assets in  India-  Equal  number  of  Hindus,  mostly  working class  Harijan  Hindus  and  labourers  go  to  India  and  occupy  houses  in  India  left  over  by  wealthy  Sikhs,  as  happened  in  1947  Partition.

Although  many  other  things,  problems  and  difficulties  are  required  to  be  said  here,  but  leaving  aside  hundreds  of  those  difficulties  and  problems,  we  jump  to  division  of  Assets  and  Liabilities  and  other  such  important  problems.

India  relieves  all  Sikhs  from  Central  Services,  including  Army,  Airforce,  Central  Police  forces  and  al  such  other  services  and  tell  them  to  go  to  Khalistan.  Khalistan  get  about  1% share in  all  military  store  including  Airforce  and  in  many  other  things.  Only  one  airport  of  Halwara  remain  in  Khalistan.

1.Electricity:

HYDEL–  Bhakra,  Pong,  Dehar  Joginder  Nagar  already  in  India-  With  territorial  changes,  Thein  Dam,  Anandpur  Sahib,  Hydel  Channel,  Kotla, Ganguwal,  Mukerian  go  to  India.

2.THERMAL– All  Thermal  Power  Stations  remain  in  Khalistan. But  India  stops  coal  supply.  Imports  of  coal  not  possible.  All  Thermal  plants  in  Khalistan  shut  due  to  non-availability  of  Coal.

Result:  No  electricity  to  run  Tubewells,  all  Tubewells  in  Khalistan  inoperative;  no  Electricity  for  homes-  no  fans,  no  air conditioners,  no  fridges,  no  electricity  to  run  factories.  All  manufacturing  stops  in  Khalistan-  no  lights  to  celebrate  Khalistan.

Industry:  No  Electricity,  no  diesel  to  run  factories,  all  manufacturing  stops,  Factories  shutdown,  Labourers  go  home.  Sugar  mills  stop  working.  Sugarcane  rots  in  fields.  Lots  of  gur  for  producing  illicit  liquor.  Ludhiana  Cycle  Industry,  Hosiery  industry  shut  down.  No  import  of  raw  materials  and  no  export  of  stocks  already  accumulated.

Transport:  India  sends  back  all trucks,  Sikh  transport  owners  truck  drivers  to  India.  Lakhs  of  Trucks  on  roads-  No  Parking  space   place  available.  No  diesel  to  run  trucks-  No  diesel  to  run  buses,  no  petrol  to  run  cars,  scooters  etc.  All  road  transportation  comes  to  stand  still. No  vehicles  to  go  to  offices  even.  People  sit  idle  at  home,  no  electricity  for  televisions,  fans,  other  household  work.

Irrigation:  No  water  available  for  irrigation.  Crops  already  sown  go  dry.  No  new  crop  sowing as  no  water,  no  tractors,  no  tubewells,  no  diesel.  India  stops  canal  water  supply  from  Madhopur  Headworks,  Nangal,   Pong  etc.  as  we  did  with  Pakistan  on  1.4.1948.  by  shutting  U.B.D.C.  and  Dipalper  Canals.

Foodgrains:  Punjab  takes  pride  in  supplying  foodgrains  to  rest  of India.  Punjab  annually  contributes  about  3  crores  tons  of  Wheat and  Paddy  to  the  Central  Pool.  India  refuses  to  buy.  No  buyers  now.  Next year  no  problem  of  selling  foodgrains  as  not  a  grain  will  grow  in  Khlaistan.

Water  Supply:   system  in  Urban  and  Rural  areas  collapses  as  in  absence  of  electricity all  tubewells  stop  working.  Wells  and  Handpumps  all  over  Punjab already  unfunctional  as  water-tables  have  gone  down.  Canals  are  dry.                 No  drinking  water  all  over  Punjab.  Only  source  of  water  supply  all  over  Punjab  is  tubewell  water  and   due  to  water  table  having  gone  down  all  over  the  State,  not  a  single  well  or  Hand-Pump  in  the  State  is  functional.

Relations  with  Pakistan:  Only  country  having  good  relations  with  Khalistan  is  Pakistan,  on  whose  help  Khalistan  shall  have  to  rely.  Pakistan  already  facing  difficulties  of  its  own  on  every  front  refuses  to  help. Not  able  to  render  any  help  to  Khalistan.

Request  to  Sikhs  for  Justice.

Please  tell  solution  to  even  one  difficulty  or  otherwise  stop  holding  this  show and  ask  for  forgiveness  from  our  Gurus  as  we  pray  daily

“Ab  Kee  Bar  Baksh  Bande  Ko”  and  say  never  again.

And  after  going  back  to  USA  tell  the  whole  world  as  Saint  Kabir  says  in  Gurbani

“Kabir  na  ham  Kia  na  karenge  na  Kar  Sake  Sarir”  in  future.

India’s Gaganjeet Bhullar sealed his ninth Asian Tour win at Fiji

Fiji, Aug 5, 2018: India’s Gaganjeet Bhullar withstood intense pressure and produced one of the best shots of the week on the 17th hole which eventually sealed his ninth Asian Tour win at the Fiji International golf tournament here on Sunday.

Staring at yet another bridesmaid finish this season, the Indian showed he would not be cowed under pressure as he holed a monstrous chip from outside the green for an eagle-three.

That eagle provided him with some relief as he would head into the last hole with a one-shot advantage over Australia’s Anthony Quayle, who had earlier broken the course record with his nine-under-par 63 at the Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course.

Bhullar hit his approach shot straight onto the green on 18 and left his birdie putt just short of the hole. An easy tap-in for par for a winning total of 14-under-par 274 would soon confirm the 30-year-old as the newest winner of the Fiji International presented by Fiji Airways.

Quayle, who started the day two shots back of Bhullar, surmounted a late challenge when he stormed home with three birdies and two eagles in his back-nine.

However, it was still not enough to catch Bhullar on a day when the Indian showed great composure and mental courage.

Major winner Ernie Els of South Africa also staged a late comeback by closing with a 65 to share the third place with New Zealand’s Ben Campbell.
