Seminar on Women’s Participation in Decision Making at PU

        ‘The presence of women in the key positions of Government will contribute immensely in nation building’ said Ms. Rekha Sharma, Chairperson, National Commission for Women (NCW), New Delhi while speaking at a seminar on ‘Women’s  Participation in Decision Making’ organized by Panjab University, Chandigarh in collaboration with the NCW, here today. Women can be empowered by education, which will give them confidence in taking decisions, she added. While starting her address on a positive note, she cited examples which included a great parliamentarian and orator Ms. Sushma Swaraj, who as External Affairs Minister changed the whole scenario with her quick decisions. She also appreciated Dr. Kiran Bedi, Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, for her commendable work on Jail reforms. The NCW Chairperson urged the women to become independent and not dependent on their male colleagues. They should come forward to put their view point at every step which will further help in bringing the change in society towards women, she added.    

            Shri Satya Pal Jain, Additional Solicitor General of India in his keynote address spoke on ‘Understanding the Issues and Challenges for Women in Decision Making’ and stressed on elimination of women exploitation. He said that awareness for women empowerment at all levels is the need of the hour. Women participation will overall make a better society, he added.  He urged women to stand for their rights. He opined that women should not be divided on the basis of casteism.

            Sh. Gian Chand Gupta, Speaker, Haryana Legislative Assembly, focussed on women empowerment and women leadership. He informed that for the growth of nation, 50% women population of the country cannot be ignored. He informed that the State of Haryana has 31 new Colleges in order to enhance education for girls of every strata.

            Prof. Pam Rajput, Professor Emeritus, coordinator of the event stressed on the indispensable role women play in entrepreneurship.  She informed that in order to assess the challenges to practical implementation of policy measures to empower women as decision makers and to assess the way forward, it is essential to develop holistic and comprehensive policy to elevate the status of women in society.

            Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh earlier in his address while appreciating the potential of PU teachers, informed that maximum Chairpersons in PU are women and even the female students studying in PU are around 75% of the total strength. He informed about the Mobile Legal Aid Van which will be extended for the legal literacy and sensitization programme in the city as well as rural and remote areas around the city. He appreciated the assurance from NCW in this regard.

            The second session was concerned with the ‘Role of Financial Inclusion in Enabling Decision Making by Women’. The co-ordinator for this session was Smt. Meenakshi Gupta. The panellists for this session were, Smt. Meenakshi Gupta, Deputy CAG, who discussed the reasons for the financial issues faced by women in decision making, Dr. H. Srinivas, DG, V.V. Giri National Labour Institute, who spoke about women entrepreneurs in rural areas,and Smt. Revathi Roy, CEO, Heydeedee who related her own experiences as a woman entrepreneur and discussed the need for women to be financially independent. This was followed by an Open House Discussion.

            The third and final session took up the discussion of ‘Sexual and Reproductive Health and Decision Making: Present Policy Framework and Challenges’. The panellists for this session were Prof. Pam Rajput, Emeritus Deptt. Cum Centre for Women’s Studies and Development Panjab University, Chandigarh, who kicked off the session and spoke about women and their right over their body and sexual health, Dr. Baljit Kaur, Asst. Director Deptt. of Health and Family Welfare Punjab, Sh. A. Asholi Chalai, Joint Secretary, NCW, and Ms. Nanthini Subbiah, Asst. Prof, Deptt. of Community Health and Advisory, NIH&FW. This was followed by another round of Open House Discussion. The event was brought to a close with a vote of thanks by Sh. A. Asholi Chalai.

            Those present at the Seminar included Prof. Shankarji Jha, Dean University Instructions, Prof. R.K. Singla, Dean Research, Prof. Emanual Nahar, Dean Student Welfare, Prof. Neena Capalash(DSW-W), Prof. Ashwani Kaul, Chief of University Security, Representatives from States Commission from Women from the States of Haryana, Punjab & Himachal, senior PU officials, staff and students.

JNU प्रशासन को परिसर में पुलिस बुलानी पड़ी। एबीवीपी ने आरोप लगाया कि वाम छात्र संगठनों एसएफआई, आइसा और डीएसएफ से संबद्ध छात्रों ने उसके सदस्यों पर “निर्ममता” से हमला किया। 

नई दिल्ली। RSS से संबद्ध छात्र संगठन अखिल भारतीय विद्यार्थी परिषद (ABVP) ने रविवार को आरोप लगाया कि लेफ्ट समर्थित छात्र संगठन के सदस्यों ने जेएनयू इकाई के उसके सचिव समेत अन्य सदस्यों पर हमला किया और संगठन के 11 सदस्य लापता हो गए। डंडों से लैस नकाबपोश लोगों के छात्रों एवं शिक्षकों पर हमला करने और परिसर में संपत्ति को नुकसान पहुंचाने के बाद रविवार रात जवाहरलाल नेहरू विश्वविद्यालय (जेएनयू) में हिंसा भड़क उठी।

इसके बाद प्रशासन को परिसर में पुलिस बुलानी पड़ी। एबीवीपी ने आरोप लगाया कि वाम छात्र संगठनों एसएफआई, आइसा और डीएसएफ से संबद्ध छात्रों ने उसके सदस्यों पर “निर्ममता” से हमला किया। संगठन ने कहा, “इस हमले में करीब 25 छात्र गंभीर रूप से घायल हुए और 11 छात्रों का कुछ अता-पता नहीं।” एबीवीपी कहा, “लेफ्ट के नकाबपोश गुंडे आज जवाहरलाल नेहरू विश्वविद्यालय में घुसे और पंजीकरण के लिए गए छात्रों को पीटा।” संगठन ने कहा, “एबीवीपी से संबद्ध जेएनयू के छात्रों पर निर्ममता से हमला किया गया।”

एबीवीपी के अनुसार, इसकी जेएनयू इकाई के सचिव और पिछले साल के जेएनयू छात्र संघ के अध्यक्ष पद के उम्मीदवार मनीष जांगीड़ गंभीर रूप से घायल हो गए (उनके हाथ की हड्डी टूट गई है)। कई छात्रों के सिर पर चोट आई है और कुछ छात्र अब भी लापता हैं। वाम नियंत्रित जेएनयू छात्र संघ और एबीवीपी ने हिंसा के लिए एक-दूसरे पर आरोप मढ़ा। यह हिंसा करीब दो घंटे तक जारी रही। जेएनयू छात्र संघ की अध्यक्ष आईशी घोष के सिर पर चोट आई है। जेएनयू प्रशासन ने कहा, “डंडों से लैस नकाबपोश शरारती तत्व आस-पास घूम रहे हैं, संपत्ति को नुकसान पहुंचा रहे हैं और लोगों पर हमला कर रहे हैं।” 

अध्यापकों ने विश्वविद्यालय प्रशासन पर हिंसा करवाने का आरोप लगाया

दिल्ली में जवाहरलाल नेहरू विश्वविद्यालय (JNU) में फिर हिंसा भड़क उठी. इस दौरान कुछ नकाबपोश लोगों ने साबरमती और अन्य हॉस्टल में घुसकर तोड़फोड़ की और पथराव किया.

  3. एक प्रोफेसर ने कहा, वे राजनीतिक कार्यकर्ता थे जिन्हें भड़काया गया था

जवाहरलाल नेहरू विश्वविद्यालय (JNU) परिसर में हिंसा होने के कुछ घंटों बाद, शिक्षकों ने विश्वविद्यालय की सुरक्षा-व्यवस्था पर सवाल उठाए और आरोप लगाया कि प्रशासन हमलावरों से मिला हुआ है. शिक्षकों ने यह भी कहा कि हिंसा ने छात्रों को हक्का-बक्का कर दिया है. डंडों से लैस नकाबपोश व्यक्तियों के विश्वविद्यालय में प्रवेश करने और छात्रों तथा शिक्षकों पर हमला करने के बाद परिसर के बाहर भारी संख्या में पुलिस बल तैनात कर दिया गया है. इस हमले में कई लोग जख्मी हुए हैं.

शिक्षकों ने विश्वविद्यालय के दरवाजे के अंदर से पत्रकारों से बातचीत की. जेएनयू में इतिहास विभाग में प्रोफेसर महालक्ष्मी ने कहा कि शिक्षकों ने शाम पांच बजे साबरमती टी प्वाइंट पर एक शांति बैठक आयोजित की थी. उन्होंने कहा, ‘‘जैसे ही यह बैठक खत्म हुई, हमने देखा कि बड़ी संख्या में लोग परिसर में आ गए और उन्होंने शिक्षकों और छात्रों पर हमला करना शुरू कर दिया.” महालक्ष्मी ने कहा, ‘‘जाहिर तौर पर, उन्हें कुछ शिक्षकों और छात्रों पर हमला करने के लिए कहा गया था और इसलिए उन्होंने यह किया. वे नहीं रुके. वे डंडे लेकर यहां-वहां घूम रहे थे और लोगों को बेदर्दी से पीट रहे थे.”

लेबर स्टडीज़ के प्रोफेसर प्रदीप शिंदे ने कहा, ‘‘कैसे इतनी बड़ी संख्या में रॉड से लैस लोग परिसर में प्रवेश कर सकते हैं. इसलिए हम हैरान हैं. मेरे ख्याल से ये राजनीतिक कार्यकर्ता थे जिन्हें उन लोगों ने भड़काया था जो हमें राष्ट्र विरोधी कहते हैं.” उन्होंने कहा कि छात्र फीस बढ़ोतरी के खिलाफ प्रदर्शन कर रहे हैं.

कैंपस में हुई हिंसा के बीच जेएनयू प्रशासन का आया बयान, कहा- सेमेस्टर रजिस्ट्रेशन का विरोध और समर्थन कर रहे छात्रों के बीच हुआ संघर्ष

एक बयान में जेएनयू शिक्षक संघ (जेएनयूटीए) ने कहा कि वह जेएनयू में हिंसा के तांडव की निंदा करता है ‘जो जेएनयू प्रशासन की मिलीभगत से हुई है और पुलिस मूक दर्शक बनी हुई थी.” जेएनयूटीए ने विश्वविद्यालय प्रशासन को गंभीर स्थिति के लिए जिम्मेदार ठहराया.

जेएनयू हिंसा पर प्रशासन का बयान

जेएनयू की ओर से कहा गया है कि एक जनवरी 2020 को विंटर सेशन की शुरुआत हो रही थी. सब कुछ ठीक चल रहा है. 3 जनवरी को छात्रों के एक समूह ने रजिस्ट्रेशन प्रक्रिया पर सवाल खड़ा किया. यह समूह कम्यूनिकेशन एंड इनफर्मेशन सर्विस(सीआईएस) परिसर में चेहरा ढककर दाखिल हुआ. इस समूह ने टेक्निकल समूह को जबरन बाहर निकाल दिया, जिससे सर्वर बंद हो गया. छात्रों की पहचान के खिलाफ पुलिस में शिकायत दर्ज कराई है.

4 जनवरी को फिर सीआईएस को टेक्निकल स्टाफ ने फिर से चालू कर दिया. जैसे ही सर्वर ठीक हुआ, छात्रों ने रजिस्ट्रेशन करना शुरू कर दिया. जिन छात्रों ने पहले सर्वर बंद किया था, फिर आपराधिक नियत से कैंपस में दाखिल हो गए. उन्होंने पॉवर सप्लाई को ठप कर दिया. ऑप्टिकल फाइबर्स को तबाह किया.

जनवरी को दोपहर 1 बजे फिर से सर्वर को नुकसान पहुंचाया गया. फिर इस मामले में एफआईआर दर्ज कराई गई. इसके बाद 5 जनवरी को हिंसा भड़की, कुछ विरोध कर रहे लोगों ने हॉस्टल में पहुंचकर मारपीट की.

इससे पहले एबीवीपी के छात्र नेताओं ने भी आरोप लगया कि जेएनयू के पेरियार छात्रावास के छात्रों के साथ वामपंथी छात्रों ने मारपीट कर उन्हें गंभीर रूप से घायल कर दिया. एबीवीपी की जेएनयू यूनिट के अध्यक्ष दुर्गेश का दावा है कि करीब चार से पांच सौ वाम सदस्य पेरियार छात्रावास में इकट्ठा हुए, यहां तोड़फोड़ कर जबरन घुसपैठ की और अंदर बैठे एबीवीपी के कार्यकर्ताओं को पीटा.

अखिल भारतीय विद्यार्थी परिषद (एबीवीपी) ने लेफ्ट के छात्र संगठनों एसएफआई, आइसा और डीएसएफ पर एबीवीपी के कार्यकर्ताओं पर हमला करने का आरोप लगाया है. एबीवीपी की जेएनयू यूनिट के अध्यक्ष दुर्गेश कुमार ने कहा, ‘जेएनयू में एबीवीपी के कार्यकर्ताओं पर लेफ्ट के छात्र संगठनों एसएफआई, आइसा और डीएसएफ से जुड़े करीब 400 से 500 लोगों ने हमला किया है. इस हमले में एबीवीपी से जुड़े करीब 18 छात्रों को गंभीर चोटें आई हैं.

Prof. Darshan Singh- Renowned Sikh Scholar Passed Away

Dr. Darshan Singh, Prof. Emeritus of Panjab University, Chandigarh
renowned Punjabi and Sikh scholar passed away on 4th January 2020
after completing 82 years of his life. His cremation was performed
with all honors at cremation ground of Sector 25, Chandigarh on the
same day of his death, where a large number of his family members,
friends, teachers from the different universities and colleges, members
of the Panjab University Senate along with the former Vice
Chancellor Prof. KN Pathak and Prof. S P Singh former Vice
Chancellor GNDU Amritsar and also a number of students were
presented there.
Prof. Darshan Singh had played a long innings in Panjab
University where performed significantly as chairman of Department
of Guru Nanak Sikh Studies and as reader in Department of Punjabi
and also an active member of Punjab University Senate for 16 long
years.
Prof. Darshan Singh was an eminent scholar of Sikh academia who
has written many books in Punjabi and in English also as: Guru
Granth Sahib translation and transliteration in English (in 5 Volumes)
Indian Bhagati Tradition, Punjabi Bhasha, Pratinidh Adhiyatmic
Varan, Religion of Guru Nanak, Sikh art and architecture, Asa di war
: A Sikh Archetype, Japuji Sahib: Contexts and concerns of Guru
Nanak, Poetics of Dasam Granth etc. More than 50 students had done
their PhD research work under his supervision. Recently in 2018 Dr.
Saab was honored with Bhai Kahan Singh Nabha award which was
bestowed upon him by Punjabi University Patiala. Prof. Jaspal Kaur
Kaang Academic coordinator of Department of Guru Nanak Sikh
Studies stated that the death of Dr. Saab is a great loss as the vacuum
which has occurred in Sikh academia cannot be fulfilled.
Dr. Prakash Kaur, his wife and retired Prof. and former head of the
Punjabi Department of MCM DAV Chandigarh, informed that Antim
Ardas of Dr. Saab will be held on January 11, 2020 at Gurdwara Guru
Arjun Dev Ji sector 40 B, Chandigarh between 12-1 pm.

6 Weeks Certificate Course

The form will be available on USOL website w.e.f 7.1.2020 . The last date for submission of application is 30th January, 2020. The students are requested to download the form from USOL website and submit the hardcopy at USOL.

अखिल भारतीय विद्यार्थी परिषद का 51 वां प्रान्तीय अधिवेशन रोहतक मे सम्पन्न हुआ जिसमे पंचकुला के पुरनूर और बलराम भारद्वाज को हरियाणा प्रान्त के प्रान्तीय कार्यकारिणी का सदस्य घोषित किया गया व साथ ही पंचकूला के ही रहने वाले सुशील शास्त्री जी को पुनः पंचकूला जिला प्रमुख और पवन दुबे को पुनः जिला संयोजक का दायित्व प्रदान किया गया।

PU VC Releases Calendar 2020

            Prof Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor (VC), Panjab University (PU), urged all to work unitedly for promoting excellence in all fields and this being much more relevant with respect to the visit of NAAC Team to PU in 2022, while addressing the PU staff members on the occasion of New Year at the Administrative Block of the PU Campus here today. On this occasion, he released the PU Calendar 2020 in the presence of Prof. Karamjeet Singh, Registrar, Prof. Shankarji Jha, Dean of University Instructions, Prof Parvinder Singh, Controller of Examinations and Sh. Vikram Nayyar, Finance & Development Officer.

While greeting all on the occasion of New Year, PU VC solicited support from all to face all the challenges effectively for the betterment of the University. He underlined that all the demands of the administrative staff of the University is their right and it is his duty as the Head of the Institution to see that how it can be fulfilled.

            Prof. Shankarji Jha extended his warm wishes to the staff on the occasion and urged them to commit themselves for effective governance and taking PU to further heights.

Prof. Karamjeet Singh while addressing on the occasion said that we all part of big family and with the support of all, various initiatives during the year have seen the light of the day, which further has been instrumental in the speedy disposal of time-bound activities.

Prof Parvinder Singh and Sh. Nayyar also addressed the gathering and extended their warm wishes on the occasion.

            Sh. Deepak Kaushik while extending his New Year wishes to all, appreciated the support of PU VC in all their endeavours. He assured of all support from the non-teaching staff in the best interest of PU.

जेएनयू (JNU) के नए हॉस्टल मैन्यूअल के अनुसार सिंगल-सीटर रूम का किराया 20 रुपये प्रति माह से बढ़ाकर 600 रुपये प्रति माह कर दिया गया है.

नई दिल्ली. राष्ट्रीय राजधानी दिल्ली स्थित जवाहरलाल नेहरू विश्वविद्यालय ने फैसला किया है कि परिसर में बुधवार यानी 1 जनवरी 2020 से हॉस्टल के नये मैनुअल लागू कर दिये जाएंगे. विश्वविद्यालय की ओर से एक अपील में यह भी कहा गया है कि छात्र अपनी हड़ताल खत्म कर दें. विश्वविद्यालय के रजिस्ट्रार, स्कूलों के डीन और विशेष केंद्रों के अध्यक्षों की एक बैठक के बाद द्वारा एक सर्कुलर जारी किया गया जिसमें छात्रों से आग्रह किया गया था, जिन्होंने अपनी ‘मॉनसून सेमेस्टर 2019 की शैक्षणिक आवश्यकताओं’ को पूरा कर लिया है वे बुधवार से 5 जनवरी के दौरान नए सेमेस्टर में रजिट्रेशन करा लें.

विश्वविद्यालय ने कहा है कि जिन लोगों ने’शैक्षणिक आवश्यकताओं’ को पूरा नहीं किया है, उन्हें इस अवधि के दौरान अस्थायी रजिस्ट्रेशन की अनुमति दी जाएगी. कहा गया है कि अस्थायी रूप से पंजीकृत छात्रों को अपने रजिस्ट्रेशन की वैधता बनाए रखने के लिए 20 जनवरी, 2020 तक ‘शैक्षणिक आवश्यकताओं’ को पूरा करना आवश्यक है.

परिणाम 20 जनवरी तक होंगे घोषित

सर्कुलर में कहा गया है कि डीन और चेयरपर्सन यह सुनिश्चित करेंगे कि 20 जनवरी, 2020 को या उससे पहले सभी अस्थायी रूप से रजिस्ट्रेशन छात्रों का मूल्यांकन, परीक्षा और ग्रेडिंग पूरी हो जाए. सभी छात्रों के लिए, शीतकालीन कैलेंडर शैक्षणिक कैलेंडर के अनुसार शुरू होगा . विश्वविद्यालय के एक अधिकारी के अनुसार, जिन छात्रों ने परीक्षा का बहिष्कार किया और परीक्षा नहीं दी, उन्हें ईमेल और वॉट्सऐप  के माध्यम से प्रश्न पत्र भी भेजे गए. वे सेमेस्टर के लिए अस्थायी रूप से पंजीकरण कर सकते हैं, अपने संबंधित स्कूलों में परीक्षा दे सकते हैं और परिणाम 20 जनवरी तक घोषित किए जाएंगे.’

जेएनयू छात्र संघ के उपाध्यक्ष साकेत मून ने कहा कि छात्रों ने JNU रजिस्ट्रार और रेक्टर के साथ बैठक की, जहां कुछ मुद्दों पर चर्चा हुई. उन्होंने कहा कि छात्र संघ यह तय करने के लिए एक बैठक आयोजित करेगा कि वे परीक्षा देंगे या नहीं. विश्वविद्यालय के छात्र हॉस्टल मैनुअल के खिलाफ दो महीने से हड़ताल पर हैं क्योंकि इसमें फीस वृद्धि और लेवी सेवा और उपयोगिता शुल्क के प्रावधान हैं. हालांकि, जेएनयू के एक अधिकारी ने कहा कि सेवा और उपयोगिता शुल्क विश्वविद्यालय अनुदान आयोग देगा और जो छात्रों से नहीं लिया जाएगा.

JNU के वाइस-चांसलर, जगदीश कुमार ने छात्रों को नए साल की शुभकामनाएं दीं और विश्वविद्यालय की उपलब्धियों का जिक्र किया. उन्होंने हाल की कुछ घटनाओं पर चिंता भी व्यक्त की. कुमार ने कहा, ‘विश्वविद्यालय प्रशासन और संबंधित निकायों ने कमरे के किराए और छात्रावास के शुल्क को संशोधित करने के लिए वैधानिक प्रक्रिया का पालन किया, लेकिन एक गलत धारणा बनाई गई जैसे कि प्रशासन छात्रों को नुकसान पहुंचाने के लिए इन बदलावों को अमल में लाया जा रहा है.’ उन्होंने बताया कि विश्वविद्यालय के बजट में बढ़ते राजकोषीय दबाव के बीच आरामदायक और अनुकूल छात्रावास आवास बनाए रखने के लिए छात्रावास के शुल्क में मामूली वृद्धि की आवश्यकता थी.कुमार ने कहा कि प्रशासन ने नए छात्रावास नियमों पर लगाए जा रहे आरोपों पर आंदोलनकारी छात्रों के साथ सार्थक संवाद स्थापित करने के कई प्रयास किए. आंदोलनकारी छात्रों ने शिक्षकों और अन्य छात्रों को कुछ स्कूल भवनों में प्रवेश करने से रोका. कुमार ने कहा, ‘विश्वविद्यालय मानसून सेमेस्टर 2019 की अपनी शैक्षणिक आवश्यकताओं को पूरा करने के लिए छात्रों को एक और मौका दे रहा है. मैं आंदोलनकारी छात्रों से अपील करता हूं कि वे अपनी हड़ताल को खत्म कर दें.’

Day 6 of NSS Camp at PU

On the sixth day, the day started with a  session on menstrual health management by Miss Roopinder, Miss Megha and Mr. Kavneet Singh of Centre for social Work (UIEASS), Panjab University, Chandigarh.They are certified trainers from Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC). They shared about menstruation as a taboo in different  parts of the country through videos. They discussed about the changes in adolescent age in boys and girls. They tried to break the stereotypes amongst the volunteers about menstruation and its effects. Emphasis was also on male education about menstrual health.They shared various products used during periods. They discussed facts about menstruation.

Post lunch, Col. Aparjit Nakai, alumnus of IIM Banglore shared about impact of data on a country. He inspired volunteers through data management. He discussed about problems in India like over population, lack of drinking water and unemployment through data. He compared India to its neighbours like China and Sri Lanka to draw a comparison.

2nd day of NSS Camp at PU

On the second day of the NSS seven days special camp, a talk on time management was delivered by Dr. Anupreet Kaur Mavi. She also shared an analogy of water available and it’s usage. The second session was on ENDS. Dr. Ikreet Bal shared the how and why of tobacoo consumption. He explained Why junk food is called junk.  He encouraged the volunteers to be conscious of what they consume, how they consume and it’s effects on the human body.

He shared the effects of vaping and  other smokeless products. Around 220 volunteers spearheaded a rally to spread awareness about ‘Swaach Bharat Swaasth Bharat’ from USOL to Student Centre. The volunteers cleaned the Student centre as a token of their dedication towards a clean and green India.  In the afternoon, a poster making competition was conducted on the theme Save Environment. The sub themes were Save water, save air and save earth. Students divided themselves into teams of 5 members each and presented a poster.  The posters were a symbol of volunteers enthusiasm and commitment.
