PU Professor selected to represent ICCR’s Chair of Hindi at Italy.

Dr. Gurmeet Singh, Associate Professor and former Chairperson, Dept. of Hindi, Panjab University, has been selected for deputation to ICCR’s Chair of Hindi at University of Naples, L’Orientale, Italy. Dr. Singh will be joining the assignment next week and will be the first visiting Professor of Hindi at the University in Naples. He has also served as Visiting Professor at Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies in 2021.
Panjab University has received a letter regarding his deputation from ICCR and has given its consent for the same. As a part of the role and responsibilities, Dr. Singh will be teaching the Hindi curriculum, besides organizing academic events and talks on Indian culture. Earlier Dr.Singh was also chosen ICCR Chair of Hindi at University of Jordan, Amman in the year 2018, but giving preference to his assignment as Chairperson of Dept of Hindi, Dr. Singh served as Chairperson from 2017 to 2020. Dr. Singh is also third time nominated member of Senate of the Panjab University .
Before joining academics, Dr. Singh has also had a decade long career in Hindi Journalism, covering several important assignments including Kargil War and Gujarat earthquake. He has also authored two books and won Best Book of the year by Chandigarh Sahitya Academy (2017) and State Award by Haryana Sahitya Academy for Literary Journalism (2008).
The University of Naples “L’Orientale” was founded in 1732 in Naples, Italy. It is the oldest school of sinology and oriental studies in Europe.
