IMA, Chandigarh organised a community outreach programme on the occasion of World Skin Health Day

IMA Chandigarh, in association with Chandigarh Dermatology Society and Surya Foundation, under the aegis of Community Dermatology Committee of IADVL, organised a community outreach programme on the occasion of World Skin Health Day. The proceedings were inaugurated by Dr Ramneek Sharma, President, IMA Chandigarh, who addressed the gathered audience about adolescent and female hygiene and it’s role in prevention of various skin diseases. Dr Vivek Malhotra, Hony State Secy, IMA Chandigarh, and Convener, Chandigarh Dermatology Society, spoke about the issue of fairness creams and their side effects. He urged the youth to stay away from the myth that only fair is beautiful and refrain from using over-the-counter creams, which can be very damaging for the skin. Prof Mala Bhalla, Deptt of Dermatology, GMCH, Sector 32, Chandigarh, elaborated on how to prevent fungal infections and also the need to get them treated from qualified dermatologists at the earliest. She also reiterated the role of hygiene and cleanliness as part of preventing these infections. Dr Rajan Gupta, a renowned dermatologist practicing in Panchkula, spoke at length about the myhts around Vitiligo and how to deal psychologically with the condition. All the doctors emphasised on the fact that self treatment with over-the-counter steroid combination creams can be very damaging to the skin and also the importance of consulting qualified Dermatologists for the skin and hair problems.
