TWO DAYS COUNTRYWIDE STRIKE BY UNITED FORUM OF BANK UNIONS
27th January, Chandigarh
On the call of United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), more than 10 lac Officers/Employees will go on strike on 31st January 2020 and 01st February 2020 (two days) all over India to protest against the non seriousness of IBA regarding the ongoing negotiations between IBA and UFBU on the Charter of Demands for Wage Revision which is due from 01/11/2017 and other issues. Earlier also Bank employees hold massive demonstration on 20th and 24th January to press for their demands.
All the members of Chandigarh affiliated with UFBU observed lunch time 2nd demonstration on 24/01/2020 (today) before the strike call to press for an early wage revision and other demands. During the 2nd phase of today’s agitation leaders from affiliates of UFBU condemned the attitude of the IBA and raised slogans for an early resolution of their demands. The loud slogans raised by the members were an expression of strong resentment against the lackluster attitude of the IBA towards the genuine demands of the Employees/Officers.
Speaking on the occasion, Com. Sanjay Sharma, Convener of UFBU Chandigarh unit said that wages and services conditions in the banking sector are governed by the Industry level bipartite settlement signed between the Indian Banks Association (IBA) and the workmen unions and officers’ associations operating in the Banking Industry. UFBU representing five workmen unions and four officers associations is currently negotiating with IBA for revision of wages to Bank workmen/officers. He further said that the public sector banks have always played a pivotal role in the growth of this country and in the last 6 decades the public sector banks have transformed class banking to mass banking particularly the neglected segment of the economy. More than 21 rounds of discussions in the last two years have taken place with IBA but till date a respectable wage revision for the banking fraternity seems to be a mirage. The Government of India should instruct the IBA not only for an early/immediate wage settlement, implementation of 5 day week including genuine but most deserving other demands of the bankers.
He further said that we sincerely regret the inconvenience to the esteemed customers/general public on account of strike by Bank employees/officers and appealed to them for their moral support.
