Focus on benefits to unorganized sector

The Chandigarh Administration organized a function in connection with the launch of Pension Week today at Government Museum and Art Gallery, Sector 10, Chandigarh.
The Pension Week is being celebrated across India by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India from 30th Nov to 6th Dec 2019 for generating awareness and maximizing registrations under Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-dhan(PM-SYM) and National Pension Scheme for Traders and Self Employed Persons(NPS) on Saturday, 30.11.2019.
Ajoy Kumar Sinha, IAS, Finance Secretary-cum-Labour Secretary, Chandigarh Administration was the Chief Guest and Sh. Mandip Singh Brar, IAS, Deputy Commissioner-cum-Labour Commissioner, UT, Chandigarh was the Guest of Honour on the occasion.
The event was also attended by Manish Lohan, HCS, Joint Labour Commissioner, Chandigarh Administration. The function was attended in large numbers by the representatives of Chandigarh Beopar Mandal, Traders Associations, Industrial Associations, Labour Unions such Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh(BMS), Indian National Trade Union Congress(INTUC), Construction Workers Unions and various unorganized workers unions.
While addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest explained about the benefits of these schemes launched by the Central Government and old age protection these schemes would bring to crores of marginalized sections of people across the country. Under the provisions of these schemes, various sections of unorganized workers such as street vendors, mid-day meal workers, anganwari workers, head-loaders, rag-pickers, domestic workers, construction workers, auto rickshaw, taxi drivers, small shopkeepers and self-employed persons between the age group of 18-40 yrs could get themselves enrolled by contributing an amount varying between Rs.55/- to Rs.200/- per month depending upon their age till the age of 60 years. Upon attaining the age of 60 years, they would be entitled to a minimum assured old-age pension of Rs.3,000/- per month.
On this occasion, the Chief Guest also announced that Chandigarh Administration shall pay the initial premium for the enrollment of construction workers registered with the Chandigarh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (CBOCW) under the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-dhan Yojna (PM-SYM) Scheme.
In the end, the Chief Guest urged all the stakeholders present to ensure maximum participation of unorganized workers and self employed persons during the Pension Week so that maximum people are benefitted under these two schemes.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks to all the participants who were present for sparing their invaluable time and gracing the occasion.
