Advisor to the Administrator held a meeting on Jal Shakti Abhiyan

Chandigarh, 29th July 2019:

The Govt. of India has launched the Jal Shakti Abhiyan (JSA) for intensive water conservation measures in identified water stressed blocks and districts across the country. Chandigarh is a part of the phase 1 of this abhiyan from 1st July 2019 to 15th September 2019. The campaign will be a collaborative effort with the State Governments involving officers, groundwater experts and scientists who would be visiting the identified Blocks and Districts.  

Accordingly, Sh. Manoj Parida, IAS, Advisor to the Administrator, U.T, Chandigarh held a meeting on Jal Shakti Abhiyan today at UT Secretariat. The following points were discussed in order to conserve water:  

1. Water conservation and rainwater harvesting
2. Renovation of traditional and other water bodies
3. Reuse, bore well recharge structures
4. Watershed Development
5. Intensive afforestation

Jal Shakti Abhiyan will be collaborative effort between various departments like Municipal Corporation, Engineering Department, Forest Department etc. A Jal Shakti Andolan has already been launched to sensitize the public and to ensure people’s participation in water conservation. Schools, colleges, RWAs and market associations have been roped in to take active part in this andolan. Various tree plantation drives have been conducted to increase awareness and enhance green cover of the city.

The meeting was attended by the Sh. Arun Kumar Gupta, Home Secretary, Sh. KK Yadav, Commissioner Municipal Corporation, Sh. Sachin Rana, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Smt. Nazuk Kumar, Sub Divisional Magistrate (Central), Sh. Sudhanshu Gautam, Sub Divisional Magistrate (East), Sh. Manish Lohan, Assistant Estate Officer UT Chandigarh,  Sh. Mukesh Anand, Chief Engineer, UT Chandigarh and other officials of Chandigarh Administration.
