        Panjab University jointly with Chandigarh Region Innovation and Knowledge Cluster (CRIKC) is organizing the 13th Edition of “Chandigarh Science Congress (CHASCON 2019)” from March 13 to 15, 2019 with the theme “Science and Technology for New India” at Panjab University, Chandigarh. The theme of this year’s congress has been proposed keeping in mind that Science and Technology are the key elements in the economic growth of Modern India.


        CHASCON is being organized every year starting from year 2007. The Congress has come a long way and continues to encourage the young and innovative minds and provides a suitable platform to enhance their research acumen through interaction with eminent scientists in varied disciplines of science and engineering. Many Scientists and experts from different part of country will participate and deliberate on its theme. The technical sessions shall comprise plenary Lectures and both oral and poster presentations. It is expected that the meeting would be attended by 1200 plus delegates from region and different parts of India.

        The highlight of this year’s CHASCON is a Public Lecture and Platinum Jubilee Oration of Pharmaceutical Sciences on March 13, 2019 at 4.00 pm by Prof. Bernard L. Feringa from University of Groningen, Netherlands who has been awarded Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2016 and is Raman Chair Professor of Indian Academy of Sciences. The title of his lecture would be “Joy of Discovery”. Prof. Ben Feringa is on a 3 day visit to Chandigarh from March 13 to 15 and his visit is being supported by the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore. He would deliver also deliver series of lectures at IMTECH, Chandigarh and IISER, Mohali during his visit.

        This year a Pre-CHASCON “Science Communication workshop” on March 12, 2019 is also being organized with the primary objective of exposing young minds to fascinating world of scientific discoveries with help of lectures and experiments. The workshop is expected to expose the participants to various research tools and is being supported by Indian National Young Academy of Sciences.
