One arrested for possessing illegal liquor

Chandigarh Police arrested Lakhwinder Kumar R/o # 73, Phase-1, Village-Ramdarbar, Chandigarh from near Gurudwara Sahib, Phase-1, Ramdarbar, Chandigarh while illegally possessing 16 quarters of country made liquor on 05.02.2019. A case FIR No. 49, U/S 61-1-14 Excise Act has been registered in PS-31, Chandigarh. Investigation of the case is in progress.

Action against violation of orders of DM, UT, Chandigarh

A case FIR No. 39, U/S 188 IPC has been registered in PS-34, Chandigarh against Vicky Asija R/o # 3296, Sector-21/D, Chandigarh who did not gave tenant information to local police and violated the orders U/S 144 Cr.P.C of DM, UT, Chandigarh. He was arrested and later bailed out.

A case FIR No. 40, U/S 188 IPC has been registered in PS-34, Chandigarh against Nitish Bansal R/o # 1233, Sector-33, Chandigarh who did not gave tenant information to local police and violated the orders U/S 144 Cr.P.C of DM, UT, Chandigarh. He was arrested and later bailed out.

          A case FIR No. 38, U/S 394, 34 added 302 IPC has been registered in PS-03, Chandigarh on the complaint of Akshay Kumar R/o Village-Barshar, Distt-Harmirpur (HP) who alleged that two unknown persons injured his father namely Guljari Ram and robbed away cash Rs. 20,000/- at Sector 10/11 dividing road, Chandigarh on 05.02.2019. Victim Guljari Ram was admitted in PGI, Chandigarh and later expired during treatment. Investigation of the case is in progress.

Cruelty to Child

A case FIR No. 12, U/S 75 J.J. Act 2015 and 374 IPC has been registered in PS-MM, Chandigarh on the complaint of Varinda Sharma, Councilor, Women Social Helpline, Sector-19/B, Chandigarh against Salman R/o # 1131, Gobind Pura, Mani Majra, Chandigarhwho beaten to his nephew age about 11 years on 05-02-2019. Alleged person has been arrested in this case. Investigation of the case is in progress.

Criminal Breach of Trust

A case FIR No. 38, U/S 408, 420 IPC has been registered in PS-34, Chandigarh on the complaint of Sh. Prikshit Prabhakar, Manager-Accounts M/s. Frankfinn Aviation Services reported that his company is engaged in the business of imparting preparatory trainings to job aspirants for jobs of Cabin Crew (Air Hostess), etc. in Aviation industry, Hospitality, Travel and Customer Service through its Training Institute at SCO 118-120, 1st Floor, Sector 34-A, Chandigarh-160034. That Amardeep Singh R/o # 877, Sec-40/A, Chandigarh has been appointed by Company as Central Sales Manager and was entrusted with the responsibility of Sales/Admissions and responsible for profitability of the Centre by maximizing sales revenue. In the audit, it was discovered that Amardeep Singh misrepresented himself to the student and collected their course fee amount and dishonestly misappropriated the amount by not depositing the amount in the designated Bank Account of the Complainant’s Company. Investigation of the case is in progress.

Burglary

Ashok Bhumia R/o # 1594, Deep Complex, Hallo Majra, Chandigarh reported that unknown person stolen away stolen away 25 cans of Formic Acid (each 35 Kg), and 5 bags of Caustic Soda (each 50 Kg) and 15 bags of soda ash (each 50 kg), from Go-Down No. 1650/1, Deep Complex Hallo Majra on 05-02-2019. A case FIR No. 48, U/S 380, 457 IPC has been registered in PS-31, Chandigarh. Investigation of the case is in progress.

Trespassing and threatening

Gurcharan Singh R/o # 629, Sec-33/B Chandigarh alleged that his son-in-law namely Kabir Bajwa R/o # 2037, Ph-10 Mohali (PB) entered at complainant’s residence, broken article and also threatened him on night intervening 31-1/01-02/2019. A case FIR No. 41, U/S 427, 453, 506 IPC has been registered in PS-34, Chandigarh. Investigation of the case is in progress.

The 10th Panjab University Rose Festival

Chandigarh February 6, 2019

            The 10th Panjab University Rose Festival is going to be held from 8th to 10th February, 2019 in Prof. R.C. Paul Rose Garden, Panjab University. The theme of 10th Panjab University Rose Festival is ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ and ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padao’.

            The Prof. R.C. Paul Rose Garden was landscaped 10 years ago and is situated in the Heart of Panjab University in front of Vice Chancellor’s Office. Prof. R.C. Paul Rose Garden, the venue of the festival is spread over an area of 3.5 acres. More than 3200 Rose plants of 155 varieties are adorning the garden, which are in full blossom these days. The Garden of Panjab University has been given a new look for the festival.  200 nos. new varieties of fragrant roses have been added this year. The staff of Horticulture Division is putting in its best efforts to make this event a success.

            The three day mega event will be inaugurated by Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University on 08.02.2019 at 2:00 pm at Prof. R.C. Paul Rose Garden. Prof. Shankarji Jha, Dean of University Instruction will preside over the inauguration and Prof. Karamjeet Singh, Registrar, Panjab University will be the Guest of Honour.

            The winners of the Flower Competition and Photography Competition will be displayed on the same day. On this occasion, the cultural programmes will be presented by Ankur School, Panjab University, Guru Gobind Singh Vidya Mandir Sr. Sec. School, Ratwara Sahib & NSS Volunteers, Panjab University. This will be followed by a competition of bands of various schools. Entry to School Band Competition is free of cost.

            Er. Anil Thakur, Divisional Engineer (Hort.) and Organizer of the festival apprised those present that the objective behind organising the festival is to spread awareness about the green & clean environment among the general public and to explore the hidden talent of students. During the three days festival, the different competitions will be arranged for different age groups among the School Children, College and University Students. For infants, there would be the competitions of three age groups of 0-1, 1-2 and 2-3 years for Rose Prince and Rose Princess at Prof. R.C. Paul Rose Garden on 10.02.2019 at 9:30 a.m.. Parents are showing great enthusiasm for participating in the competition.

            Different selfie points will be created so that the visitors may keep the glimpses of the 10th Panjab University Rose in their memories.

            A three day Exhibition-cum-Workshop on the theme ‘Natural Biodiversity’ to sensitize the audience about the science, climate, environment, biodiversity, nature, flora, fauna etc. will also be there in the festival.

            There will be an Art Workshop ‘Golshan-2019’ curated by Dr. Tirthankar Bhattacharya, Chairperson, Deptt of Art History & Visual Art & Coordinator, Fine Arts Events, 10th Panjab University Rose Festival in the Prof. R.C. Paul Rose Garden in which eminent artists from the tricity and other places will make live paintings on three days. GOLSHAN- 2019 has a group of 11 artists. The group has broadened its scope by inviting artists from Kurukshetra  and Dehradun besides acclaimed artists from the Tricity. The Artists would be using acrylic on canvas as their medium. Since GOLSHAN is Celebrating Rose Festival, the artists would be requested to paint in that theme. However, they would be requested to keep the 550th Birthday of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji as the inspiration. The eminent artists attending this Art Workshop will be Dr. Gurcharan Singh, Seema Jaitly, Dr. Vandana Malhotra, Anju Pasricha, Raam Jatoor, Mandakini Sharma, Anjali Aggarwal, Saryu Bansal, Alisha Sharma, Waseem Jagroo, Manmeet Kaur, Kanika Kapoor.

            The 10th Panjab University Rose Festival will have 15 competitions of different age groups such as Singing, Rangoli, Collage Making, Slogan Writing, Face Painting, Poetic Recitation, Dancing, Mehandi, Rose Prince & Princess, Painting, Photography and Fancy Dress. The theme of photography competition is ‘Life at Panjab University’ and ‘P.U. Gardens/Landscape of P.U. Campus’. All the winners of 10th Panjab University Rose Festival will be given attractive prizes.

            The date for submission of entries for Photography Competition has been extended to 6:30 p.m. on 06.02.2019. Entries for flower competition will be accepted upto 6:30 p.m. on 07.02.2019 at Rose Festival Secretariat and on 08.02.2019 till 10:00 a.m. at Prof. R.C. Paul Rose Garden, Panjab University, Chandigarh. Entries for all other competitions will be accepted upto 07.02.2019 till 6:30 p.m..

            Special children can participate in painting competition free of cost. They are not required to fill any form and just have to report at the venue half an hour prior to the competition.

            Er. Anil Thakur, Divisional Engineer (Hort.), Panjab University said that people are showing great interest in these competitions for which forms are being accepted in offline as well as online mode. Forms for participation are available at Festival Secretariat at Single Window Enquiry, Panjab University and also on the website ’www.panjabuniversityrosefestival.in’. The Festival Secretariat will be open on all the days till 6.30 p.m. including the holidays for sale and acceptance of forms. There will be an on the spot daily Selfie competition on all the three days.

            This year, an added attraction will be performers from Rajasthan performing on Kachi Ghodi, Nachar and Stick Walker performing on all the three days, courtesy North Zone Cultural Centre, Chandigarh

            All the three days of the festival will have special attractions in the evening. On first day of this mega event, there will a performance of Band followed by Fashion Competition under the able guidance of University Institute of Fashion Technology in the evening. A great enthusiasm is seen among the participants of the Fashion Competition. The topic for this year will be ‘Bollywood’ 2019’.

            On the second day, in the evening, there will be performance of Folk Orchestra by Sh. Vijay Yamla, Grandson of famous Punjabi Folk singer Ustad Yamla Jatt at 6:30 p.m. followed by Laughter Show by eminent stand up comedians and mimicry artists. Sh. Umang Sharma, winner of ‘Laughter da Master’ will be the star attraction of the evening. Nandpreet Singh and Anmol Singh Monga will do the ‘Bhand Act’. Jagdeep Bheema, a regular feature of previous Rose Festival will also perform.

            Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University will be the Chief Guest and Prof. Shankarji Jha, Dean of University Instruction, Panjab University will preside over the Valedictory function on 10th February at 6:30 pm in Old Convocation Ground. लेबर कालोनी वासियो ने किया विजय बन्सल का स्वागत

मकानों को तोड़ने के मामले में बंसल के मार्गदर्शन में दायर करी याचिका,5 मार्च को होगी अगली सुनवाई 

पिंजोर। सूरजपुर सुखोमाजरी बाईपास को बनाने के लिए हरियाणा सरकार द्वारा लेबर कालोनी के सेकड़ो घरों को पिला पंजा चलकर उजाड़ दिया गया था जिसके विरोध में पीड़ित मकान मालिकों द्वारा विजय बंसल,पूर्व चेयरमैन हरियाणा सरकार के मार्गदर्शन में पंजाब हरियाणा हाईकोर्ट में याचिका दायर कर करी गई जिसे लेकर माननीय न्यायालय ने सुनवाई करते हुए हरियाणा सरकार को दस्ती नोटिस करते हुए 5 मार्च को पेश होने के आदेश दिए है।इसी के चलते ग्रामीणों व गरीबो में खुशी की लहर है , और विजय बंसल का फूल माला पहनाकर गांव में गर्मजोशी से स्वागत किया।पूर्व पार्षद सीमा देवी,पूर्व सरपंच योगेंद्र ठाकुर, भीम सेन,सतपाल,धन्नू ,रामअवतार,रमेश, टुकीराम,जय सिंह आदि ने बन्सल के प्रयासों व मार्गदर्शन दिखाने पर धन्यवाद किया व आश्वस्त किया कि उनके नेतृत्व में गरीबो की आवाज को उठाकर हर समस्या का हल करवाया जाएगा।वही, ग्रामीणों ने कहा कि उनके साथ बंसल का साथ वर्षो से है और हर समय उनकी आवाज उठाते रहते है। इसके साथ-साथ बंसल ने आश्वस्त किया कि सरकार की हर जनविरोधीनीति का पुरजोर विरोध करते रहेंगे व स्वागत के लिए धन्यवाद किया।बंसल ने कहा कि माननीय न्यायालय में याचिका न 2997/2019 द्वारा , पीड़ित मकान मालिकों ने बताया है कि लेबर कालोनी को कानूनन गलत तोड़ा गया है, माननीय सुप्रीम कोर्ट के आदेशानुसार यदि सरकार , सरकारी भूमि पर वर्षो से बसे मकान व कालोनी आदि को विस्थापित करती है तो विस्थापित करने से पूर्व 10 किमी के दायरे में पुनःनिवास नीति के तहत मकान व आशियाना फ्लैट्स आदि प्रदान करने आवश्यक है जैसे , पंचकूला में हुड्डा की भूमि और बसी हुई कालोनियों जैसे मद्रासी, राजीव,आजाद कालोनी आदि को विस्थापित करने से पूर्व आईशियाना फ्लैट्स दिए गए थे।लोगो के अनुसार कालोनीवासी यहां 70 वर्षो से रह रहे है तथा क्षेत्र के विकास में योगदान है।साथ ही सरकार ने भी करोड़ो रूपये खर्च करके पीने का पानी,सामुदायिक केंद्र,सड़के,गलियां,बिजली के मीटर,धर्मशाला,स्कूल आदि मूलभूत सुविधाए उपलब्ध करवाई हुई है।1975 से बिजली के मीटर लगे हुए है।ग्राम पंचायत सूरजपुर ने प्रस्ताव पास करके गरीबो को 2-2 बिस्वे के प्लाट दिए हुए है जहां लोगो ने मकान बनाए हुए है,जबकि इनके वोटर,आधार कार्ड आदि बने हुए है तथा सामान्य चुनावो में अपने मतदान का प्रयोग करते है।2007 में बाईपास के लिए इन लोगो के मकानों की जमीन आपातकालीन धारा लगाकर इनकी जमीन अधिग्रहण की गई थी जबकि निर्माण कार्य 2017 मे शुरू हुआ ,हरियाणा सरकार 12 साल में सुप्रीम कोर्ट के आदेशानुसार इनके लिए आवास बनाने में असफल रही।2007 में राष्ट्रीय आवास व पुनः आवास योजना भी बनी हुई है ,जिससे देश मे इसी तरह के लोगो आईशियाना फ्लैट्स दिए हुए है।

Doors of Indo French and Indo German collaborative Research ventures to be explored for PU

Chandigarh February 6, 2019

            The Prestigious Indo French workshop under the banner of Indo French Center, which is created jointly by the Department of Science and Technology, Govt of India and  Ministry of External and Culture Affairs, Govt. of France  concluded today after brain storming sessions during last three days. 

            During the three day workshop, various noted and eminent scientists spoke on the topics of Nuclear Physics. The prominent speakers included Prof. Joerg Aichelin from Nantes, France, Prof. Christoph Hartnack from France, Prof. Leifels from Germany, Prof. Bratkovskaya from Germany, Prof. Lopez from France, Prof. Napolitani from France.

            Prof. Rajeev Puri, Chief coordinator of the workshop told that the French and German delegates including the Director of Indo French Center  had series of meetings with Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice- Chancellor, Panjab University(PU). Apart from Physics, another important part was that both French/ German and Indian delegate stressed need for joint collaborative projects.

            Prof. Rajeev Puri, The Indian Chief Coordinator along with Vice Chancellor Prof. Raj Kumar, Prof. Devender Mehta, Dean Sciences and Prof. Aichelin, French Chief Coordinator will initiate platform for French-Indo and German –Indo MOU and also collaborative projects that will benefit students and faculty of Panjab University.

            It was further agreed upon to explore the possibility of joint Indo-French  Research center at PU  which can be a milestone for the faculty and students of the region.

            Prof. Puri and Prof Aichelin agreed to also explore possibility for joint Ph.D. Programs with France and India so that students can work in both countries.  It was also discussed to look for the Nuclear Engineering program of the France where M.Sc/ BTech students of PU can participate. The European Union also offers more than 20 Scholarships for Nuclear Engineering programs

            Prof. Leifel who is  head of the many giant projects at GSI, Germany, the world largest facility for Nuclear Physics along with Indian Chief Coordinator, Prof. Puri will explore for  possibility of MOU with Panjab University so that  local faculty and students  can also work at GSI.   Large number of countries have pumped  thousands of crore of rupees in the facility of GSI.

            This Indo French workshop, which was first of its kind at Panjab University, has set the ball for large research possibilities with initiatives of Prof. Rajeev Puri from Panjab University and Prof. Aichelin from Nantes, France. It is worth mentioning that Prof Rajeev Puri was the first scientists  who was awarded Indo French project   worth of Rs. 1 crore in 2012.

एसडीएम ने DC के ड्राइवर का काटा बेल्ट ना लगाने पर चालान, डीसी भी थे कार में मौजूद

👉 प्रदेश में चल रहे सड़क सुरक्षा सप्ताह के दौरान सोनीपत के एसडीएम प्रशांत पंवार ने डीसी की गाड़ी का चालान काट दिया। दरअसल, अभियान के दूसरे दिन मंगलवार को जब सोनीपत के लघु सचिवालय के अंदर डीसी विनय सिंह की गाड़ी आई, तो एसडीएम प्रशांत पंवार ने हर गाड़ी की तरह उनकी भी गाड़ी की जांच की एसडीएम ने जांच के दौरान पाया कि ड्राइवर ने सीट बेल्ट नहीं लगा रखी है और जब उन्होंने कहा कि सीट बेल्ट नहीं लगा रखी, तो डीसी ने भी कहा कि नियम व कानून सबके लिए एक समान है। जिसके बाद एसडीम ने चालान काट दिया। इस दौरान डीसी प्रशांत पंवार ने भी कहा कि कायदे-कानून सबके लिए एक जैसे होने चाहिए, मैंने खुद कहा कि चालान काटों, ताकि नियमों को लेकर आम लोगों को भी एक मैसेज मिले।

मानेसर लैंड घोटाला मामला: आरोपी अतुल बंसल के कोर्ट में न पहुंचने के चलते आज भी नहीं हुई कोई कार्यवाही।

मनेसार भूमि घोटाला मामले में हरियाणा के पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री भूपेंद्र सिंह हुड्डा और कांग्रेस के वरिष्ठ नेता मोतीलाल वोहरा बुधवार को पंचकुला में सीबीआई स्पेशल कोर्ट के सामने पेश हुए। सुनवाई में आज आरोपी अतुल बंसल के कोर्ट में न पहुंचने के चलते आज भी नहीं हुई कोई कार्यवाही। कोर्ट ने अब मामले में सुनवाई के लिए अगली तारीख 20 फरवरी दी है। सनद रहे की इससे पहले मई में सीबीआई कोर्ट ने भूपिंदर सिंह हुड्डा को राहत देते हुए करोड़ों रूपये के मनेसार ज़मीन घोटाले में उन्हे जमानत दी थी।

एबीडबल्यू बिल्डर्स के अतुल बंसल की अनुपस्थिति ने कोर्ट की कार्यवाही को स्थगित करवाया। सनद रहे अतुल बंसल मनेसार ज़मीन घोटाले के मुख्य आरोपियों में से एक हैं। आरोपी अतुल बंसल पिछली पेशी में भी अदालत में पेश नहीं हुए थे, जिस कारण उनके नॉन बेलेबल वारंट निकले गए थे। आज फिर अतुल बंसल के खिलाफ नॉन बेलेबले अरैस्ट वारंट जारी किए गए हैं,

     दरअसल, हरियाणा के गुरुगरम जिले के मनेसार में ज़मीन घोटाले के मामले में सीबीआई ने इस वर्ष फरवरी में हुड्डा, करिष्ठ नौकरशाहों व अन्य के विरुद्ध मामला दर्ज़ किया था। चार्जशीट में वरिष्ठ नौकरशाह छत्तर सिंह,, एस एस ढिल्लों और गुरुगरम की रियल इस्टेट कंपनी एबीडबल्यू बिल्द्र्स के प्रोमोटर अतुल बसन को शामिल किया गया था। तीनों अधिकारी हुड्डा के मुख्यमंत्री रहते हुए प्रभावशाली प्रमुख सचिव थे। सीबीआई ने सितंबर 2015 में इस संबंध में मामला दर्ज़ किया था। आरोप था की निजी बिलदारों ने हरियाणा सरकार के साथ मिलीभगत कर गुरुगरम जिले के मनेसार, नौरंगपुर, लखनौला गांवों में किसानों और ज़मीन के मालिकों से 400 एकड़ ज़मीन बहुत कम दामों में खरीदी।

     उस समय बेची गयी ज़मीन की कीमत 1600 करोड़ रुपये थी, लेकिन बिल्डरों ने इसे मात्र 100 करोड़ रुपए में खरीद लिया। यह ज़मीनें अगस्त 2004 से अगस्त 2007 के बीच खरीदी गईं। मुख्यमंत्री हुड्डा के नेतृत्व वाली सरकार मार्च 2005 से अक्तूबर 2014 तक हरियाणा में सत्ता में थी। सीबीआई का आरोप है की एबीडबल्यू बिल्द्र्स ने कांग्रेस के कार्यकाल में ज़मीन खरीदने का षड्यंत्र रचा।  

GSAT-31 इसरो ने फ्रेंच गुएना से लॉन्च किया संचार उपग्रह

बेंगलुरुः भारतीय अंतरिक्ष अनुसंधान संगठन (इसरो) फ्रेंच गुएना के अंतरिक्ष केन्द्र से अपने 40वें संचार उपग्रह जीसैट-31 को बुधवार को प्रक्षेपित किया. अंतरिक्ष एजेंसी के अनुसार उपग्रह का जीवनकाल 15 साल का है. कक्षा के अंदर मौजूद कुछ उपग्रहों पर परिचालन संबंधी सेवाओं को जारी रखने में यह उपग्रह मदद मुहैया करेगा और जियोस्टेशनरी कक्षा में केयू-बैंड ट्रांसपोंडर की क्षमता बढ़ायेगा.

मंगलवार को जारी एक बयान में भारतीय अंतरिक्ष अनुसंधान संगठन (इसरो) ने बताया था कि 2,535 किलोग्राम वजनी उपग्रह को फ्रेंच गुएना में कुरू से एरिएन-5 (वीए247) के माध्यम से प्रक्षेपित किया जाएगा. एजेंसी के अनुसार, उपग्रह जीसैट-31’ को इसरो के परिष्कृत I-2K बस पर स्थापित किया गया है. यह इसरो के पूर्ववर्ती इनसैट/जीसैट उपग्रह श्रेणी के उपग्रहों का उन्नत रूप है. यह उपग्रह भारतीय भू-भाग और द्वीप को कवरेज प्रदान करेगा.

इसरो ने यह भी कहा था कि जीसैट-31 का इस्तेमाल सहायक वीसैट नेटवर्कों, टेलीविजन अपलिंक्स, डिजिटल उपग्रह समाचार जुटाने, डीटीएच टेलीविजन सेवाओं, सेलुलर बैक हॉल संपर्क और इस तरह के कई ऐप्लीकेशन में किया जायेगा. इसरो के अनुसार यह उपग्रह अपने व्यापक बैंड ट्रांसपोंडर की मदद से अरब सागर, बंगाल की खाड़ी और हिंद महासागर के विशाल समुद्री क्षेत्र के ऊपर संचार की सुविधा के लिये विस्तृत बीम कवरेज प्रदान करेगा

Today i.e. 05.02.2019, Chandigarh Traffic Police organized Inter School Declamation Contest with the subject “which mode if better for road safety; private transport/public transport” for school students at Auditorium, Bhawan Vidyalaya Sector 27, Chandigarh as part of 30th National Road Safety 2019. Sh. Amit Talwar, IAS, Director Transport, UT Chandigarh was consented as Chief Guest in the function. Sh. Shashank Anand, IPS, SSP/Traffic & Security, Sh. Manmohan Luthra, of buckle up 4 road safety organization and other traffic marshals were also present. Three Judges namely Sh.R.S.Batra, Major General(Retd.), AVSM, VSM, Sh.Baldev Singh, SP(Retd.) and Sh. B.C Rajput, Sessions Judge(Retd.) were the panel judges in this event. Approximately 200 students from various Govt. & private schools participated in this contest. Panel Judges declared result of the contest.  The winners were awarded with trophies & certificates by the chief guest. Result of the declamation contest is as below:-

Meeting of Standing Committee of AAC on Law & Order held

05.02.2019

                A meeting of Standing Committee of Administrators Advisory Council on Law & Order held on 05.02.2019 in Committee Room, Police Head Quarters, Sector- 9, Chandigarh. Sh. V.K Kapoor, IPS (Retd) chaired this meeting and members 1. Major General (Rtd.) Rajinder Nath, PVSN 2. Sh. Kamaljeet Singh Panchhi were also present. The Senior Superintendent of Police, U.T, Chandigarh Smt. Nilambari Jagadale, IPS also attended this meeting as Member Secretary to this Advisory Council alongwith all SDPOs and DSP/CID.

                The Chairman, Sh. V.K Kapoor and members present suggested and discussed the following points in the meeting:-

  • Cut off time of pubs and bars to be 12 midnight.
  • License to be cancelled if liquor sold/served to the underage person.
  • Repair of street lights (Dark Spots/Stretches) and pruning of trees and bushes.   
  • Advisory Council will spread Anti-drugs awareness among Schools/Colleges in collaboration with School/College authorities.
  • Incidents of snatching are reduced to a great extent. Police efforts need to continue in order to keep them in check.
  • The issues related to RWAs/MWAs must be listened to and dealt with promptly.
  • Public drinking has been curbed to a great extent. Four sectors indentified for crack down in recent future.
  • All the members have appreciated the selection of PS Sector 36 for securing sixth position in Best Police Stations in public dealing on All India Basis.   
  • Issues of pruning of trees and Dark Spots needs to be resolved by MC and administration on priority basis.
  • All the members have unanimously suggested for establishing the Common Control Room for tri-city.
  •  All hookah bars should be closed on priority as Delhi Administration has already banned all hookah bars.
  • DSP/CID has been appointed as Nodal Officer for liasioning with legal services volunteers to collect drugs related intelligence, especially in colony areas.

           In this regard, Chief Engineer, Chandigarh Administration and Chief Engineer, Municipal Corporation, UT Chandigarh were informed for arranging lights at dark spots and to take necessary steps for the safety of general public. All members of Standing Committee have specifically stressed to strengthen intelligence system in Chandigarh Police to check the crime phenomenon more effectively. This Standing Committee appreciated the working of Chandigarh Police for maintaining Law and Order in the city. All the dignitaries present in the meeting also loudly praised the commendable work done by Chandigarh Police in various ways i.e. drive against drinking at Public Places, controlling the menace of snatching to a great extent and securing Sixth rank at  All India level by Police Station Sector-36, Chandigarh in public dealing. In the last, it is decided that in the coming days, this Standing Committee will conduct the meetings on regular basis with general public so that their assistance can be secured to make the city crime free.

Prof Raj Kumar,  Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh in his address emphasized upon the prominence of contribution of researchers and scientists towards the society and the implication of a precise mode for its channelization. He also encouraged the audience specifically, the upcoming researchers and young generation to carry out a research that is specific and focuses on thrust areas and explicitly solves the need of the society, as the 21st century is the era of marketing and commercialization.

Prof. Promila Pathak, Coordinator PU Colloquium Series briefly introduced the eminent speaker. She apprised that Dr Girish Sahni, PU Alumnus, is currently serving as Bhatnagar Fellow, CSIR and has been Former Secretary, Department of Scientific and Industrial Research & DG-CSIR

The speaker for the occasion, Dr Girish Sahni delivered lecture on the topic “A Challenge for Our Times: Balancing the Human Quest for Truth, Abundant Scientific and Managerial Talent, Some Ivory Towers and Societal Expectations”. He began the lecture feeling nostalgic and recalled his time at the University 40 years ago listening to Prof. M S Randhawa’s lecture. He said “I also want to state that Panjab University is one of the most distinguished centers of learning with a go-getter attitude and has deepest intellectuals. We are a part of a society who doesn’t have intellectuals of the past or the future but the bravest soldiers. He also added that “just as a soldier has virtue of bravery, he or she also has compassion and scientists also need this sort of passion towards their research. Dr. Sahni remarked India to be the top most nation in terms of publications of high value and has tailor made science with a strong knowledge base but stressed upon the great challenge our country has met with i.e.generating researches which are cost-effective for poor people and has value addition for the society. The talk accentuated upon the central role of a scientist or a researcher about how he or she has to remain inside the golden circle of research and be a part of it from the starting point till the end and it is essential to mobilize research from laboratory science to industrial science. To achieve this, Dr. Sahni explained about the responsibility of the scientific community as well as the political leadership to form a trustful collaboration and synergy with academia. Lastly, he emphasized over the point asserting refocus on affordable and viable off shoots and a link to convert it into applications, as quoted by him “it is necessary to convert a seed into a sapling and further into a tree and take out the fruits from it”. The lecture highlighted the importance of willingness of a scientist to participate in this chain from lab to market and realize how much value he or she is creating and adding from his or her research for the benefit of society.

On this occasion, many distinguished scientists and guests, CRIKC Members, a large number of senior and young faculty members, research scholars and UG/PG students from Panjab University, Local Colleges, and neighbouring institutes attended the lecture.
