All three accused in the Yug Gupta murder case were sentenced to death by a District and Sessions Court on Wednesday.

Chander Sharma (26), Tajender Pal Singh (29) and Vikrant Bakshi (22) have been held guilty of kidnapping, murder and conspiracy in connection with the death of 4-year-old Yug Gupta in Shimla in 2014.

Holding the case as rarest of the rare, Sessions Judge Virender Singh pronounced the verdict at 2 pm amidst tight security.

All three accused were convicted by the court on 6 August. The court had fixed the date for pronouncing quantum of sentence on 29 August, eight days after recording the statements of the parents of the accused.

Later, the court deferred the date of pronouncing the quantum of sentence to 5 September.

Justice Singh said that the execution of sentence shall be subject to the confirmation from High Court of Himachal Pradesh.

The Judge also told the accused, who were present in the court, that they can file an appeal before the High Court within a period of 30 days from today. A fine of Rs 50,000 also imposed on all the three accused.

The teary-eyed parents and grandmother of Yug Gupta heaved a sigh of relief as the Judge pronounced the punishment.

Yug’s father Vinod Gupta said that justice has been finally delivered.

“Though my son is not alive anymore, the court has done justice,” he said.

Yug’s mother, Pinki Gupta, broke down as she heard the judgment. “My son has got justice and I am relieved,” she said.

Calling it “a landmark”, District Attorney RS Parmar said that the judgment restored the faith of the people in rule of law.

Yug Gupta was kidnapped from outside his house in Ram Bazaar in Shimla on 14 June 2014 by his neighbour Chander Sharma, who lured him with chocolates.

The accused had kept the boy naked, tortured him and forced him to consume liquor for seven days. He was later dumped alive in water storage tank seven days after the abduction, even before the first ransom call was made to his parents.

The accused allegedly sent a letter demanding ransom from the child’s father on 27 June, six days after they had killed the boy.

Two years after the Shimla Police failed to make any headway, the case was handed over to CID who recovered the minor boy’s skeletal remains from the Shimla Municipal Corporation’s water storage tank in Kelston area on 21 August 2016.

On 22 August 2016, the police arrested Sharma, Singh and Bakshi and booked them under sections 302, 201, 342, 364 A and 120 B of the Indian Penal Code.

Police investigations had revealed that Chander had even taken part in protests and search for child to avoid suspicion. And he was the one who had insisted on killing the boy as the child knew him while Tejender and Vikrant were opposed to the idea.

Former Gujarat IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt arrested in 22-year-old narcotics case

The Crime Investigation Department of the Gujarat Police arrested sacked IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt in connection with the 1998 Palanpur drug planting case.

Bhatt, who was dismissed by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs in August 2015 for “unauthorised absence” from service, was among eight former policemen detained by the CID for questioning.

Bhatt and seven others, including some former policemen attached with the Banaskatha police, were earlier in the day detained for questioning in the case, Director General of Police, Crime Investigation Department (CID), Ashish Bhatia said.

The 22-year-old case relates to the arrest of a man for alleged possession of drugs by Banaskatha Police. Bhatt was the Banaskantha district superintendent of police in 1996. The other cops, too, were associated with the Banaskantha Police force.

According to reports, the arrested man, an advocate called Sumersingh Rajpurohit, was charged for possessing around 1 kg of drugs. At that time, the Banaskanta police had claimed that the drugs were found in a hotel room occupied by Rajpurohit in the district’s Palanpur town.

However, an investigation by the Rajasthan Police had revealed that Rajpurohit was falsely implicated by the Banaskatha police. It had also found that Rajpurohit was allegedly kidnapped by the Banaskatha police from his residence at Pali in Rajasthan.

The Gujarat High Court had in June this year handed over the probe to the CID setting a deadline of three months.

Reports say that interrogation of Sanjiv Bhatt and the seven others is under way.

The Congress dubbed the arrest a case of “kangaroo justice BJP style” and an example of an “undeclared emergency”.

“For an alleged case dating back to 1998 @sanjivbhatt detained/ arrested in 2018. Kangaroo justice BJP style. Looks to be a desperate act of vendetta to settle old scores now with less than 6 months of the Government’s tenure left. Dono Bhai  Lage Hua Hain #undeclaredemergency,” wrote Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari on Twitter.

Administrator UT Chandigarh V P Badnore has  directed Chandigarh  Traffic Police to halt the challan campaign of Sikh women driving bikes without helmets for more fifteen days.

The decision to postpone the challan campaign was taken after a delegation of protesting Sikhs met Mr Badnore today. Now the Chandigarh Traffic police will continue awareness campaign for more two weeks .

Earlier , the Sikh organisations stage a protest demonstration against the decision of the Chandigarh administration to enforce the wearing of helmet mandatory for non-turbaned Sikh women driving bikes without helmet . Traffic police had announced to start challan campaign from today.

MC Panchkula granted 3 weeks time to reply cattle menance

The Court of Sh. Kanwal Kumar, ACS (SD) today granted 3 weeks time to the Commissioner, Municipal Corporation and Deputy Commissioner Panchkula to reply and file an action taken report on the stray cattle menace in Panchkula in response to the PIL filed by Advocate Pankaj Chandgothia, after advocate Anil Garg appeared on their behalf and sought time to file reply. The Court also issued urgent DASTI notices to the Chief Secretary Haryana; Director, Urban Local bodies, Haryana and Director General of police Haryana as no counsel appeared on their behalf today, inspite of their having received the notice in the case. Dasti notices have been issued for 26th September, 2018.
In his petition filed under Section 91 of Civil Procedure Code, Chandgothia has termed the stray cattle menace as a public nuisance. He said that the commuting public in Panchkula is in constant danger and risk of meeting with accidents due to various deficiencies and negligence on the part of the defendants, who all are liable to ensure the safety and welfare of the citizens. Stray Cattle are often found sitting or moving in the middle of busy roads, leading to sudden breaking by vehicles, giving rise to the risk of accidents and resultantly injuries and loss of life and also damage to vehicles. This malaise has been highlighted by the print media many times, but the concerned authorities are turning a blind eye to the grave problem.

Chandgothia contended that there is no proper agency nor co-ordination between the various functionaries to strictly deal with the problem of stray cattle menace in the city. A special cell needs to be created with representatives from all concerned department including the administration, municipal council/corporation and police, in order to deal with this problem. The stray cattle must be immediately removed from the streets/roads/public places and a scheme needs to put in place to prevent them from coming on to roads and public spaces, to ensure the safety of the general public.

It is pointed out that the authorities can also take penal action and register FIRs against the guilty persons under Section 268, 283, 289 and 290 and 291 of IPC. In addition, criminal action can also be taken under sections 337 and 338 of IPC.

Chandgothia has also sought a compensation policy wherein the administration should be held liable to compensate any person who suffers on account of the stray cattle menace. The police must register an FIR in every such case.

सवर्ण जातियों का विरोध झेलतीं राजनैतिक पार्टियां

अब सवर्णों की पार्टी कही जाने वाली बीजेपी को सवर्णों की नाराजगी झेलनी पड़ रही है. हिंदी भाषी राज्यों में अपनी जड़े जमाने वाली बीजेपी इस तबके के वोटरों को लेकर सशंकित भी है और चिंतित भी

एससी-एसटी एक्ट में संशोधन कर सुप्रीम कोर्ट के फैसले को पलटने वाले सरकार के कदम का विरोध तेज हो रहा है. मध्यप्रदेश के ग्वालियर के फूलबाग मैदान में जुटे करीब दर्जन भर संगठनों की तरफ से इस मुद्दे पर हल्लाबोल शुरू किया गया है. मध्यप्रदेश में सवर्ण संगठनों ने विरोध ज्यादा तेज कर दिया है.

क्षत्रिय महासभा, गुर्जर महासभा, परशुराम सेना जैसे सवर्ण जातियों का प्रतिनिधित्व करने वाले संगठनों की ओर से विरोध का बिगुल फूंका गया है. 6 सितंबर को इस मुद्दे पर भारत बंद का आह्वान भी किया जा रहा है. इनकी नाराजगी बीजेपी और कांग्रेस दोनों के खिलाफ है. लेकिन, निशाने पर बीजेपी के नेता और केंद्र और राज्य सरकार के मंत्री ज्यादा हैं. क्योंकि सरकार बीजेपी की ही है.

क्या था सुप्रीम कोर्ट का फैसला: 

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने अपने फैसले में कहा था कि एससी-एसटी एक्ट से जुड़े मामले में किसी भी व्यक्ति पर मुकदमा दर्ज होने से पहले उस पर आरोपों की जांच की जाएगी. इसी के बाद देशभर में एसएसी-एसटी तबके की तरफ से विरोध तेज हो गया था. कांग्रेस समेत कई विपक्षी दलों और बीजेपी के सहयोगी दलों की तरफ से भी इस मुद्दे पर सरकार से हस्तक्षेप की मांग की गई थी.

राजनीतिक दबाव में केंद्र की बीजेपी सरकार ने इस मामले में संसद के मॉनसून सत्र में कानून पास कराकर सुप्रीम कोर्ट के फैसले को पलट दिया. अब एक बार फिर से पुराने ढर्रे पर ही एससी-एसटी कानून के तहत कार्रवाई का मार्ग प्रशस्त हो गया है. यानी इस एक्ट में फिर से बिना जांच के भी मुकदमा दायर करने और गिरफ्तारी का रास्ता साफ हो गया है.

एससी-एसटी संगठनों ने सुप्रीम कोर्ट के फैसले का विरोध करते हुए पिछले 2 अप्रैल को भारत बंद का आह्वान किया था, जिसमें काफी हिंसक झड़पें भी हुई थीं. मध्यप्रदेश समेत देश भर में बंद का असर भी दिखा था. सरकार को लगा कि इस तबके को मनाने और विरोधियों का मुंह बंद करने के लिए सुप्रीम कोर्ट के फैसले को पलटने वाला कानून पास कराना होगा. सरकार ने ऐसा  कर भी दिया. लेकिन, अब यह मुद्दा उसके गले की हड्डी बनता जा रहा है.

बीजेपी के खिलाफ सवर्ण हो रहे लामबंद:

अब सवर्ण संगठनों का विरोध सरकार और बीजेपी के लिए परेशानी का कारण बनता जा रहा है. सबसे ज्यादा विरोध मध्यप्रदेश में दिख रहा है, जहां, दो महीने के भीतर विधानसभा का चुनाव होना है. मुख्यमंत्री शिवराज सिंह चौहान इस वक्त राज्य भर का दौरा कर रहे हैं. लेकिन, उन्हें भारी विरोध का सामना करना पड़ रहा है. बीजेपी नेता प्रभात झा, नरेंद्र सिंह तोमर जैसे कई दूसरे नेताओं को भी सवर्ण संगठनों की तरफ से घेरा जा रहा है. उनसे जवाब मांगा जा रहा है. लेकिन, बीजेपी के इन सवर्ण नेताओं के लिए उन्हें समझा पाना मुश्किल हो रहा है.

विरोध की आग मध्यप्रदेश से आगे भी पहुंच रही है. बिहार और यूपी समेत दूसरे प्रदेशों में एससी-एसटी एक्ट के मुद्दे पर विरोध हो रहा है. बिहार के बेगूसराय, गया, नालंदा और बाढ़ जिलों में सवर्ण संगठनों ने बंद भी बुलाया. कई जगह पर नेशनल हाईवे भी जाम किया और जमकर विरोध किया.

विरोध बीजेपी और कांग्रेस दोनों के खिलाफ दिख रहा है. लेकिन, इससे सबसे ज्यादा नुकसान बीजेपी को होता दिख रहा है. इन सवर्ण संगठनों की तरफ से विरोध के क्रम में अगले चुनाव में नोटा दबाने की अपील की जा रही है. इनकी तरफ से बार-बार यही कहा जा रहा है कि नोटा के जरिए हम बीजेपी और कांग्रेस दोनों का विरोध करेंगे.

दरअसल, बीजेपी को अबतक सवर्णों की पार्टी कहा जाता रहा है. ब्राम्हण –बनिया की पार्टी कही जाने वाली बीजेपी ने धीरे-धीरे समाज के हर तबके में अपना विस्तार भी किया है. पिछड़ी-अतिपिछड़ी जातियों के अलावा, एससी-एसटी तबके में भी बीजेपी का जनाधार पहले से कहीं ज्यादा बेहतर हुआ है. खासतौर से 2014 के लोकसभा चुनाव में मोदी लहर में कास्ट बैरियर टूट जाने के बाद बीजेपी के वोट शेयर में जबरदस्त इजाफा हुआ. अपने दम पर बीजेपी पहली बार सत्ता में आई.

लोकसभा में कितने हैं एससी-एसटी सांसद?

यहां तक कि लोकसभा में एससी-एसटी सांसदों के लिए आरक्षित सीटों की संख्या 131 है. जिसमें 84 एससी और 47 एसटी सांसदों की संख्या है. मौजूदा वक्त में बीजेपी के पास इस तबके के 67 सांसद हैं. ऐसे में बीजेपी किसी भी कीमत पर इस तबके की नाराजगी नहीं मोल लेना चाह रही थी. यही वजह है कि सुप्रीम कोर्ट के फैसले को पलटने का फैसला किया गया.

लेकिन, अब सवर्णों की पार्टी कही जाने वाली बीजेपी को सवर्णों की नाराजगी झेलनी पड़ रही है. हिंदी भाषी राज्यों में अपनी जड़े जमाने वाली बीजेपी इस तबके के वोटरों को लेकर सशंकित भी है और चिंतित भी. तभी तो पार्टी नेताओं और मुख्यमंत्रियों को सवर्ण तबके को समझाने की जिम्मेदारी दी गई है कि आखिर यह फैसला क्यों करना पड़ा.

वजह जो भी हो, लेकिन, सवर्ण मतदाताओं के भीतर अब यह बात घर कर गई है कि एससी-एसटी तबके को साधने के लिए सरकार ने उनके साथ अन्याय किया है. अब इस बात को लेकर उनका विरोध शुरू हो गया है. मंडल कमीशन लागू होने के बाद शायद यह पहला मौका है कि सवर्ण तबका भी अब खुलकर अपनी बात कर रहा है. चुनावी साल में राजनीतिक दल परेशान हैं. बीजेपी डरी है कहीं यह नाराजगी उस पर भारी न पड़ जाए ?

क्या वादरा पर वाकई कानूनी शिकंजा कसेगा या फिर……..

‘दामाद श्री’ पुस्तिका में लिखे आरोपों और इस संबंध में गुरुग्राम पुलिस द्वारा दायर की गई एफआईआर में जबरदस्त समानता है.

2014 के लोकसभा चुनावों से पहले बीजेपी ने तत्कालीन यूपीए चेयरपर्सन सोनिया गांधी के दामाद राबर्ट वाड्रा के खिलाफ धोखाधड़ी और जालसाजी का आरोप लगाते हुए ‘दामाद श्री’ नाम की एक पुस्तिका जारी की थी. अब इसे संयोग कहें या कुछ और, ‘दामाद श्री’ पुस्तिका में लिखे आरोपों और इस संबंध में गुरुग्राम पुलिस द्वारा दायर की गई एफआईआर में जबरदस्त समानता है. ये एफआईआर गुरुग्राम के खेड़की दौला पुलिस स्टेशन में सुरेंद्र शर्मा नाम के एक शख्स ने राबर्ट वाड्रा के खिलाफ दर्ज करायी है.

‘दामाद श्री’ नाम की इस बुकलेट के कवर पर राबर्ट वाड्रा की फोटो छपी हुई है और वो अपने अक्सर पहने जाने वाले परिधान,टाइट फिटिंग शर्ट, टाई डार्क सन ग्लासेज पहने हुए हैं. उनकी तस्वीर के पीछे बैकग्राउंड में सोनिया गांधी और राहुल गांधी दिखाई दे रहे हैं. इस बुकलेट की शुरुआत होती है वाड्रा के स्काईलाइट हॉस्पिटैलिटी रजिस्ट्रेशन की कहानी के साथ.

नवंबर 2007 में एक लाख रुपए की इक्विटी के साथ इस कंपनी का रजिस्ट्रेशन कराने के बाद गुड़गांव के सेक्टर 83 स्थित शिखपुर गांव में 3.51 एकड़ जमीन की खरीद की गयी वो भी फर्जी चेक के सहारे. इस जमीन के एवज में ओंकारेश्वर प्रॉपर्टीज को 7.5 करोड़ रुपए का एक चेक फरवरी 2008 में कंपनी की तरफ से जारी किया गया जो कि बाद में फर्जी पाया गया था.

इस जमीन की खरीद के बाद इस जमीन का लैंडयूज बदला गया और उसके बाद इस जमीन को देश की बड़ी रियल एस्टेट कंपनियों में से एक डीएलएफ को अगस्त 2008 में 58 करोड़ रुपए में बेच दिया गया.

पुलिस को जो शिकायत सुरेंद्र शर्मा ने की है उसमें भी इसी तथ्य को इंगित किया गया है. ऐसे में ये कहा जा सकता है कि इस मामले में तथ्य एक जैसे ही हैं ऐसे में शिकायत और उससे संबंधित जो एफआईआर पुलिस ने दर्ज की है उसमें एकसमान चार्ज एकसमान तरीके से लगाए गए होने चाहिए. लेकिन सच्चाई ये है कि एफआईआर किसी निजी व्यक्ति द्वारा दर्ज कराया गई है न कि किसी स्टेट एजेंसी के द्वारा. इसके अलावा एफआईआर करने का समय भी मायने रखता है. इसका असर निश्चित रूप से हरियाणा की राजनीति और अन्य मामलों पर पड़ सकता है.

यहां ये ध्यान देने वाली बात है कि इस मामले की पड़ताल राज्य की एजेंसियां पहले कई सालों से कर रही थी. इस मामले पर कॉन्सोलिडेशन ऑफ लैंड होल्डिंग के डायरेक्टर जनरल अशोक खेमका पहले भी ऐतराज जताने के बाद इस मामले का खुलासा वो पब्लिक में 2012 में ही कर चुके थे. जस्टिस एस.एन ढींगरा कमेटी ने भी इस संबंध में सरकार को अपनी रिपोर्ट पिछले साल के शुरू में ही सौंप दी थी. इसके बावजूद भी अधिकारिक एजेंसियों ने इस मामले में वाड्रा और हुडा के खिलाफ के अपराधिक मामला दर्ज करने के लिए किसी तरह का कोई कदम नहीं उठाया था.

कांग्रेस की समस्या ये है कि इस मामले में केवल वाड्रा ही आरोपी नहीं हैं बल्कि हरियाणा के पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री भूपेंद्र सिंह हुडा भी इस मामले में अभियुक्त बनाए गए हैं. उसी तरह से ओंकारेश्वर प्रॉपर्टीज और रियल एस्टेट कंपनी डीएलएफ का नाम भी आरोपियों की सूची में दर्ज है.

जिन धाराओं के तहत पुलिस ने वाड्रा और हुडा पर मामला दर्ज किया है वो काफी गंभीर हैं. धारा 420 (धोखाधड़ी),120 B (आपराधिक साजिश), 467 (जालसाजी), 468 (धोखाधड़ी के लिए जालसाजी),471 (जाली दस्तावेजों का इस्तेमाल करना) और प्रिवेंशन ऑफ करप्शन एक्ट की धारा 13 के तहत इन पर मुकदमा दर्ज किया गया है.

हालांकि अभी तक एफआईआर करने वाले सुरेंद्र शर्मा और बीजेपी के बीच किसी तरह के संबंध की बात साबित नहीं हुई है लेकिन ये मानना सही नहीं होगा कि कोई साधारण व्यक्ति किसी पुलिस स्टेशन में जाकर इस तरह का कोई गंभीर एफआईआर दर्ज कराने की हिम्मत करेगा और वो भी वाड्रा और भूपेंद्र सिंह हुडा जैसे शक्तिशाली और रसूखदार व्यक्तियों और डीएलएफ जैसी बड़ी कंपनी के खिलाफ. सत्ताधारी दल बीजेपी के कुछ नेताओं का मानना है कि सरकार का ये चाहना कि इस मामले में कोई सामान्य नागरिक वाड्रा और हुडा के खिलाफ क्रिमिनल केस फाइल कराए, उसकी गंभीरता को दर्शाता है. अब ये स्पष्ट हो चुका है कि सरकार इस मामले को तार्किक तरीके से आगे ले जाने को प्रतिबद्ध है.

मामले की जांच के दौरान ढींगरा कमेटी की रिपोर्ट का इस्तेमाल सोनिया गांधी के दामाद के खिलाफ केस को मजबूत करने के लिए किया जाएगा.

ये भी संयोग की बात है कि जिस दिन गुरुग्राम में रॉबर्ट वाड्रा के खिलाफ एफआईआर दर्ज करायी गयी, उस दिन राज्य के मुख्यमंत्री मनोहर लाल खट्टर गुरुग्राम में ही मौजूद थे. हालांकि मुख्यमंत्री के एक सहयोगी ने इसे स्पष्ट किया कि इससे वहां उनकी मौजूदगी का कोई लेना देना नहीं और वो वहां पर अपने पूर्व निर्धारित कार्यक्रम के मुताबिक ही कार्यक्रमों में शामिल होने गए थे.

सवाल ये उठता है कि वाड्रा के खिलाफ केस दायर करना केवल राज्य के एक ईमानदार व्यक्ति की पहल है या फिर ये सत्ता पक्ष की तरफ से सोच विचार कर लिया गया फैसला है. वैसे दोनों मामलों में बीजेपी के लिए स्थिति अनुकूल ही है.‘दामाद श्री’ पुस्तिका के जारी किए जाने के चार साल बाद अब हरियाणा की बीजेपी सरकार ये दावा कर सकती है कि उसने इस मामले में कानून को अपना काम करने देने की पहल कर दी है.

फ़र्स्टपोस्ट को अपने विश्वसनीय सूत्रों ये पता चला है कि चार सालों तक वाड्रा के खिलाफ मुलायम रुख अपनाने के बाद सरकार को अब इस मामले को तार्किक परिणति तक पहुंचाने के लिए जांच में तेजी लाने की आवश्यकता महसूस हुई है. वाड्रा के मामले में बात करते हुए सरकार के एक वरिष्ठ मंत्री का कहना था, ‘किसी को बख्शा नहीं जाएगा. कानून तोड़ने वालों से सख्ती से निपटा जाएगा.’ बीजेपी के एक और वरिष्ठ नेता ने कहा, ‘वाड्रा के खिलाफ इस तरह की कार्रवाई आने वाले समय में और की जाएगी. मैं जानता हूं की इस संबंध में कुछ प्रगति हुई है.’

राजस्थान के बीकानेर में भी वाड्रा की संदेहास्पद लैंड डील की जांच ने गति पकड़ी है. बीकानेर में जब वाड्रा की लैंड डील हुई थी तो उस समय देश में यूपीए का शासन था और राजस्थान में कांग्रेस की गहलोत सरकार सत्ता में थी. संदेहास्पद लैंड डील के इस मामले में भी वाड्रा और गहलोत सरकार के बीच सांठगांठ को लेकर मीडिया में रिपोर्टों का प्रकाशन होता रहा है.

लेकिन राजस्थान में अभी तक इस संबंध में कोई ठोस कार्रवाई नहीं हो सकी है. पिछले साल अगस्त में राजस्थान पुलिस के द्वारा दायर किए गए 18 मामलों को सीबीआई को स्थानांतरित कर दिया गया था. इन मामलों में एक मामला वाड्रा से भी संबंधित था. एक अधिकारी का कहना था कि कागजातों की समीक्षा में दस्तावेजों के फर्जीवाड़े के चौंकाने वाले तथ्यों का खुलासा हुआ है. पता चला है कि जमीन के एक टुकड़े से रियल एस्टेट बिजनेस में ज्यादा से ज्यादा मुनाफा कमाने के लिए जमीन को कई लोगों के हाथों से गुजारा गया जिनमें से कुछ लोगों का तो अस्तित्व तक नहीं है.

इस साल फरवरी में वाड्रा एसोसिएट्स के परिसर में इंफोर्समेंट डायरेक्टोरेट की ओर से जांच पड़ताल भी की गयी थी. इससे पहले ईडी ने जयप्रकाश भार्गव और अशोक कुमार को प्रिवेंशन ऑफ मनी लांड्रिंग के तहत इसी मामले में गिरफ्तार किया था. कुमार, काग्रेंस नेता और वाड्रा के नजदीकी महेश नागर का ड्राइवर है और इसका इस्तेमाल वाड्रा की ओर से राजस्थान में जमीन खरीदने में किया गया था.

सूत्रों के अनुसार, प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी के शनिवार को इंडियन पोस्टल बैंक के उद्धाटन के समय दिए गए बयान का आशय भी इस तरह के मामलों में मिलता जुलता है. पीएम मोदी ने कहा था कि जिस समय अधिकतर लोग फोन बैंकिंग से अनजान थे उस समय भी नामदार (पीएम मोदी कांग्रेस के गांधी परिवार को इससे संबोधित करते रहे हैं) ने एक फोन कॉल के जरिए बैंकों को अपने चहेतों को लोन देने के चलन की शुरुआत की थी.

पीएम ने ये भी कहा कि 2014 के पहले मोटा लोन लेने वाले उन 12 डिफॉल्टरों पर भी कड़ी कार्रवाई की जा रही है और उन सबसे पाई पाई की वसूली की जाएगी. प्रधानमंत्री का बयान और उसका समय, सत्ता के गलियारों में चर्चा का विषय बना हुआ है और लोगों को लग रहा है कि उन्होंने वाड्रा को लेकर भी इशारा किया है जिसमें कुछ डिफॉल्टर उद्योगपतियों को फोन पर लोन दिलाने के मामले में वाड्रा की भी भूमिका रही है.

Two Indian Mujahideen cadre convicted in the 2007 Hyderabad twin blast case

Two of the five accused in the twin bombing case of 2007 in Hyderabad were convicted by a special court in Cherlapally central prison here on Tuesday. The blasts claimed 44 lives, while 68 were left injured.

Anique Shafique Syeed and  Mohammed Akbar Ismail Choudhury, associates of Mohammed Riyaz Bhatkal and his elder brother Mohammed Iqbal Bhatkal  were held guilty. They were Indian Mujahideen (IM) operatives.

The Second Additional Metropolitan Sessions Court operating from Cherlapally central prison convicted the duo under Section 302 (murder) and other relevant provisions of the IPC and sections of the Explosive Substances Act. The verdict was pronounced by Justice T. Srinivas Rao.

The quantum of punishment will be announced on Monday.

Two other accused, Farooq Sharfuddin Tarkash and Mohammed Sadiq Israr Ahmed Shaik were acquitted, while judgment against Tarik Anjum will be pronounced on Monday.

The trial against them was shifted to court hall in the Cherlapally prison from a court located in Nampally court complex in June this year owing to security reasons.

The Telangana Police’s Counter Intelligence Cell had filed three separate charge-sheets against seven accused persons. Other three accused, Riyaz Bhatkal, his brother Iqbal Bhatkal and Amir Raza Khan are still at large.

The IM operatives planted three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in the city on August 25, 2007, of which two went off at Lumbini Park and Gokul Chat Bhandar and one unexploded bomb placed under a foot-over-bridge at Dilsukhnagar was recovered by the police.

Over 160 witnesses were examined and cross-examined during the trials.

The advisory has urged channels that they may refrain from using the term ‘Dalit’ while referring to people belonging to Scheduled Castes.

Union Law and Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad

The letter referred to a June directive by the Bombay HC asking the ministry to consider issuing a direction to the media to stop using the word ‘Dalit’.

In compliance with a Bombay High Court directive, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has issued an advisory to all private satellite TV channels, urging them to refrain from using the nomenclature, ‘Dalit’, for people belonging to Scheduled Castes.

The advisory has urged channels that they may refrain from using the term ‘Dalit’ while referring to people belonging to Scheduled Castes.

The letter, dated August 7, referred to a June directive by the Bombay High Court asking the ministry to consider issuing a direction to the media to stop using the word ‘Dalit’.

“It is accordingly advised that media may refrain from using the nomenclature ‘Dalit’ while referring to members belonging to Scheduled Castes in compliance with the directions of the Hon’ble Bombay High Court and the Constitutional term ‘Scheduled Caste’ in English, and its appropriate translation in other national languages should alone be used for all official transactions, matters, dealings, certificates, etc. for denoting the persons belonging to Scheduled Castes,” the advisory from the ministry read.

The directive from the Bombay High Court had come over a petition filed by Pankaj Meshram before the Nagpur bench of the court.

On 15 March, similar orders were issued to all state governments by the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, stating that only the term ‘Scheduled Caste’ should be used in all official communications, mentioning that the term ‘Dalit’ does not find mention in the Constitution.

After the circular from the social justice ministry, the petitioner had said media too should be asked to stop using the word ‘Dalit’.

Kolkata bridge disaster, one dead

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is in opposition in the state, raised questions on the government over the tragedy.

At least one person has died in the Majerhat Bridge collapse in Kolkata and around 19 injured are undergoing treatment at the hospital even as rescuers continued to dig through the debris to reach those still feared trapped.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the incident.

“The collapse of a part of a bridge in Kolkata is deeply unfortunate. My thoughts are with the families of the victims. I pray that those who are injured recover at the earliest,” he wrote on Twitter.

West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi, who reached the site to take stock of the rescue operations, raised questions on the maintenance of  the bridge.

“Bridge deserved better maintenance. There was a report on a pit here for quite some time; I don’t know whether PWD noted it. PWD and Railway administration had the responsibility to maintain it. The matter requires investigation,” said the Governor.

At least 20-25 injured people have been rescued by fire officials while many more are feared trapped under the rubble.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is in opposition in the state, raised questions on the government over the tragedy.

“How many more bridges will be broken in Paschim Banga? Mere change of colour does not add any shade of development,” said state BJP president Dilip Ghosh.

“Be it a bridge, a dam, hospital or a Government office, Didimoni has only paid lip service to performance by painting them blue and white!” he said referring to the dire need of upgrade of the city’s infrastructure.

“Didi, think not only of votes but also of the lives. Let lives count more than votes!” he added.

The Majerhat Bridge in Kolkata’s extremely busy Alipore locality collapsed on Tuesday evening at around 4.30 pm following heavy rains in the city. Cars and a city bus were seen trapped on the bridge as panicked locals rushed to the site to help save the lives of those feared trapped underneath the debris.

Rescuers were seen trying to reach underneath the flyover to find those feared trapped. Electric-cutters and other equipment were pressed into service as ambulances were kept on standby to ferry the injured to the hospital.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is in Darjeeling, had in a press briefing said that there was a hut underneath the bridge which housed a few labourers working on a railway project.

“If the labourers were in the hut at the time of the incident, some lives may have been lost,” the Trinamool Congress chief told reporters.

She had earlier said that there was no casualty in the incident.

Eyewitnesses had said that the number of casualties could be very high given the busy location and the time of the collapse.

Army ambulances were seen rushing to the site to help in the rescue operations but state Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim categorically stated that the force had not been called in to assist in the rescue operation stressing that the local administration is fully equipped to handle the situation.

Hakim had told reporters that six injured have been shifted to the hospital for treatment. The victims have been reportedly taken to the SSKM hospital.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed five teams to assist the local administration in the rescue effort.

Majherhat Bridge is located next to the Kolkata Port Trust Hospital and connects Alipore with the rest of the south Kolkata neighbourhood. Its proximity to Garden Reach and Khidirpur makes Majerhat Bridge one of the busiest in the city.

It runs over the suburban railway network, which is the lifeline of the city. The collapse of the bridge has affected railway operations though the portion that has collapsed does not run over the railway lines but a canal adjacent to them.

“Train services in Circular Railway and Sealdah-Budge Budge line have been suspended as precautionary measure following the collapse of a portion of the bridge,” Eastern Railway spokesman RN Mahapatra said.

Being one of the major flyovers, the collapse of the bridge had a ripple effect on the city’s traffic. Jams were witnessed in many parts of the city on roads arterially connected to the Majerhat Bridge road.

According to reports, traffic movement through Diamond Harbour Road in Taratala area had been suspended. Traffic from various parts of South 24 Parganas and Behala area in the city were being diverted from Diamond Park area.

The Kolkata Traffic Police posted a tweet for commuters asking them to take the Hastings to Taratala road through CGR for northward journey and the DH Road to CGR road through Taratala for southward journey.
