Chandigarh, 22-09-2018:

Today a cycle rally was organised by Chandigarh Traffic Police and Cyclegiri group, IMA Chandigarh to observe world car free day. The rally was conceptualized by Cyclegiri group, a unique aggregation of doctors and other professionals, who advocate the use of bicycles in the Tricity. They say “we aim at healthier, closer, happier, better connected communities. We want all to experience the city together in a way that is not just possible in cars.We want people to return to their childhood and experience the joy that comes with cycling.”

Chandigarh traffic police community and the doctors of Indian Medical Association, Chandigarh, joined hands with the Cyclegiri group for a RIDE IN FORMALS, to promote the concept of cycling to work.

Even strong rains could not dampen the spirit of the extremely excited cyclists, who had braved the rains to gather at Sukhna Lake, Chandigarh at 7 am . The 300 odd cyclists, men ,women, children alike, had gathered in formal dresses to educate upon the need to adopt cycling as a part of lifestyle. The event began with SSP traffic police Mr Shashank Anand informing the public about the commissioning of the cycle squad and the judicious use of the cycle track laid down across the city along with various other measures the Chandigarh traffic police has taken to ensure safety of the cyclists. It was followed by Dr Hardeep Singh Santokh Joint sectary IMA, who enumerated the need of  incorporating cycling as a measure of healthy lifestyle to preventive various diseases. A cardiologist from Grecian Hospital Mohali educated the public of benefits of cycling and prevention of heart diseases. The ride was flagged off by prominent road safety activist, Mr Harman Sidhu and was led by SSP, Traffic police, Chandigarh,Mr. Shashank Anand. The ride proceeded through 9 km of cycling tracks to reach IMA complex at sector 35, Chandigarh. The rally was unique in away that all cyclists used cycling tracks to ride, and  also wanted people to realize the importance of cycling tracks. The recently appointed CYCLING SQUAD of Chandigarh traffic police also participated in the ride along with many other senior police officers.

The doctors of IMA biked in formal dresses, in their white aprons. This was done with an aim to remove the hesitation that people have while cycling to work places. The doctor community gave a strong message to the citizens to adopt cycling to work for good health.
