Enactus team of Panjab University with 30 members made a visit to the Institute of Home Economics (IHE), New Delhi today for putting up a stall during the annual fest of IHE to showcase products made by underprivileged communities working under its projects, conveyed Prof. Seema Kapoor, Faculty advisor of Enactus team. The team displayed various pottery products under project Dhra and eco-friendly reusable cloth based sanitary napkins made under Project Uday to spread the message on menstrual health and hygiene far and wide. Visitors of the stall were awed by the pottery products and were made aware of the benefits of using cloth based sanitary napkins.
A workshop on Menstrual Health & Hygiene was also organized by the Enactus team in collaboration with Prof. Bela Kapoor, faculty at IHE and Ms. Seema Malhotra, Founder SCOPE Plus, New Delhi, for about 40 girls and ladies with meagre means at Chirag, Delhi, a densely-populated urban village in South Delhi, said Preet Kanwal, president of Enactus team. SCOPE Plus a volunteer based NGO which stands for Society for Creating Opportunities for People’s Empowerment has been working with Inmates of Tihar Jail, Police personnel, Educational institutes, Corporates and Communities since 1996, averred Ms. Kapoor. In the last decade, the founder Seema has committed herself to train children and women on Safety, Cervical & Breast Cancer, Hygiene and other pertinent issues. Also since 2008, SCOPE has been serving on Internal Committee of Prevention Prohibition and Redressal of Sexual harassment at work place.
During the workshop, the girls and ladies were made aware of the harmful effects of using plastic based sanitary napkins and were educated on the importance of safe menstrual practices and the benefits of cloth based sanitary napkins. The Enactus team distributed the cloth based sanitary napkins made under Project Uday by a community of ladies in Nayagaon among these ladies, which were sponsored by an alumnus of Dr. SSB University Institute of Chemical Engineering & Technology, Panjab University.
