जेईई और नेट की परीक्षाएं तुरंत रद्द की जाएं-मुकेश सिरसवाल

जिला पंचकूला युवा कांग्रेस के जिलाध्यक्ष मुकेश सिरसवाल की अध्यक्षता में पंचकूला सेक्टर 1 जिला सचिवालय में नारे लगाकर नगराधीश श्री धीरज चहल के माध्यम से केंद्रीय शिक्षा मंत्री श्री रमेश पोखरियाल को जेईई-एनइइटी परीक्षाएं को स्थगित करवाने के बारे मैं ज्ञापन सौंपा। जिला पंचकूला युवा कांग्रेस के जिलाध्यक्ष मुकेश सिरसवाल ने कहा कि क्योंकि करो ना महामारी को देखते हुए भारत सरकार को अपना यह फैसला वापस लेना चाहिए और 25 लाख छात्र-छात्राओं का भविष्य दांव पर ना लगाते हुए जेईई और नेट की परीक्षाएं रद्द की जाए। पहले ही हमारा भारत देश करो ना जैसी महामारी बीमारी से लड़ रहा है। ऐसे में हमारे देश के युवा साथी पढ़ाई नहीं कर पाए ना उनकी अच्छी तैयारी हो पाई है। ऐसे में भाजपा सरकार युवा साथियों के साथ बहुत बड़ा धोखा परीक्षा करवा कर करने जा रही है।

मुकेश सिरसवाल ने मांग की है कि परीक्षा को तुरंत प्रभाव से रद्द किया जाए। इस अवसर पर केंद्र और राज्य सरकार के खिलाफ जमकर नारेबाजी की गई। इस अवसर पर विशेष तौर पर हरियाणा प्रदेश युवा कांग्रेस के प्रदेश महासचिव श्री शांतनु चौहान, जिला उपाध्यक्ष सुनील सरोहा, जिला युवा कांग्रेस जिला महासचिव अभिषेक सैनी, जिला युवा कांग्रेस पंचकूला के जिला सचिव विवेक शर्मा, जिला युवा कांग्रेस के जिला सचिव अनिल शर्मा, ब्लॉक अध्यक्ष लेखपाल, भीम यादव, युवा कांग्रेस सोशल मीडिया से राघव विज, मोहित सैनी, संजीव शर्मा, दीपक कुमार, सुखबीर गहलोत, प्रीत कुमार, मनीष मौजूद रहे।

University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), Panjab University inaugurated TEQIP-III sponsored three days online international conference entitled INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON INTEGRATED INTERDISCIPLINARY INNOVATIONS IN ENGINEERING” on 28th August 2020.

The conference scheduled from 28th to 30th August 2020 is being organized under twining activity of TEQIP-III in collaboration with Govt. college of Engineering and Technology Jammu under the guidance and patronage of  Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Prof. Savita Gupta, Director UIET, Panjab University, Chandigarh and Dr. Sameru Sharma, Principal, Government College of Engineering and Technology, Jammu. The technical program is enriched with internationally reputed speakers scheduled to give ten plenary talks, twelve invited talks, eight short invited talks and 200 oral/poster presentations from participants from various institutes from India and abroad.

The Conference Chair Prof. R. K. Singla, Dean University Instruction, Panjab University delivered the welcome address. Prof. Singla emphasized on the application of various interdisciplinary innovations in our life. He also said that the conference will provide a valuable opportunity for the researchers, scientists, academicians, industry specialists and decision makers to share their experiences on a common platform. 

Prof. V. R. Sinha, Dean Research, Guest of Honour, stated that the conference will serve as an effective platform to learn, share, supplement learning while keeping abreast with the latest developments in the respective areas. He also stated that in this pandemic era of COVID-19, the conference will definitely benefit the research students.

Prof. Savita Gupta, Director, UIET elucidated the theme of the conference. She also quoted the role of interdisciplinary research as the base of many great discoveries and cited examples of great scientists.  She said that the objective of this conference is to bring active researchers and experts from various disciplines to showcase their state of art research results and to integrate interdisciplinary connections amongst them.

Chief guest Prof. P. M. Khodke, Central Project Advisor, NPIU, Govt. of India, delivered his inaugural address online. He stated that in past few decades engineering faculty are playing a major role in solving many societal and industrial problems and in future, the technical education will become boundaryless. He discussed about the MHRD ‘IMRINT’ program and its importance. He also discussed the role of World Bank assisted TEQIP in improving Engineering/Technical education. He also emphasized on collaborative research. He motivated the participants & set the tone of the conference.

Prof. Sukhwinder Singh, Conference Co-Chair & Coordinator, TEQIP-III extended vote of thanks by  paying gratitude to Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice- Chancellor, PU and Chief Patron for inspiring and encouraging the UIET team to organize this international conference. MAKA Trophy To PU for 2nd Time in a Row

On the occasion of National Sports Day today, the Hon’ble President of India Sh. Ram Nath Kovind in the presence of Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Sh. Kiren Rijiju and several other dignitaries virtually conferred various National Sports and Adventure Awards 2020 from a ceremony at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The much coveted Maulana Abul Kalam Azad(MAKA) Trophy for overall top performing University in Inter-University Tournaments has been awarded to Panjab University, Chandigarh for the second time in a row.

Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, PU attended the virtual ceremony from Chandigarh. Later, he addressed the employees of the Directorate of Sports, PU at the Gymansium Hall. He appreciated the efforts of the Sports Authority of India for virtually organizing the ceremony despite all odds due to Covid 19 pandemic. PU VC lauded the commendable achievement of the PU sports persons, coaches and the entire team of Directorate of Sports under the leadership of Prof. Parminder Singh, Director and Dr. Rakesh Malik, Deputy Director and extended his heartiest congratulations. He assured of all necessary help and support to the Sports Department for taking the Sports in PU to further heights.

Dr. Parminder Singh assured that with all supports from PU VC, concerted efforts will be made for improvement in the coming year in order to make a hat-trick for MAKA Trophy. 

Webinar on National Education Policy 2020: Roadmap for Implementation at PU

The Department of Community Education and Disability Studies, Panjab University  organized a webinar on National Education Policy 2020: Roadmap for Implementation.The Chief Guest of the Webinar was Shri Bandaru Dattatreya ,Honorable Governor of Himachal Pradesh. 

Prof. R.K.Singla DUI, Panjab University Introduced the Chief Guest and extended warm welcome on behalf of Panjab University.  Prof. Raj Kumar Vice Chancellor in his address stated that  Panjab University has already started planning short and long term implementation of NEP 2020. He also stressed on sharing of resources’ and collaborations with different agencies. Prof Raj Kumar also highlighted the infrastructure facilities like CIL, Incubation Center and Human Resources’ in the form of eminent scientists and researchers presently working in the Panjab University.

The Chief Guest of the Webinar Shri Bandaru Dattatreya Honorable Governor of Himachal Pradesh at the outset appreciated Panjab University for being one of the important Universities in the country producing the best Alumni in all the important fields. ‘This education policy is the true representative of Bharat and I hope that this policy will help in achieving the goals of Atma Nirbhar Bharat. This policy will help in making India a superpower in future and will stop brain drain’ Added Sh. Dattatraya. Governor also deliberated on Conversion of leading colleges into board administered, autonomous, degree giving HEIs and freeing up undergraduate students to take courses across all disciplines. He also discussed Launch of a four-year bachelor’s degree and incorporating vocational education in college curriculum. The emphasis was on Creation of a National Research Foundation.

Research Project of 10.62 Lacs for CSE,UIET,PU

AICTE, Government of India has sanctioned a research project titled ‘Generative Adversarial Network(GANs) for unmasking blurred and covered faces’ under Research Promotion scheme(RPS) with financial outlay of Rs. 10.62 Lacs to pursue work on this research challenge for three years (2020-2023). to Dr. Akashdeep, Assistant Professor in Computer Science and Engineering, at UIET Panjab University Chandigarh who works in the area of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.

The Project aims to innovate in the field of Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning to reconstruct faces from blurred and covered images. It is focused at designing suitable GAN framework that will learn a representation model from available samples of images/videos and then use this representation model to generate/unmask unseen, unclear or low-resolution faces. It will use two different Neural networks, Generator and Discriminator, competing with each other to improve themselves.  Once trained, generators will be used to generate fresh images of the unmasked person.

Dr Akashdeep informed that the work can be widely helpful to identify criminals, track missing persons, tracing source of mischievous behavior, apart from its use for facial recognition, recognition of faces in driver’s licenses, credit cards, passports and crowd surveillance.

Prof Harish Kumar, Coordinator, CSE Branch further informed that the criminals wear masks to cover their face either partially or completely while committing crime. Identifying people wearing masks is one of the major challenges faced by law enforcement agencies, organizations using facial recognition, biometric security, banking (during crimes) and high security applications. There have been numerous incidences when persons responsible for committing crime were not identified

An international Make-Up artist, Mandy Singh from Canada delivered a talk in a Webinar          titled – Changing Dynamics of Make-Up Industry organised by Dr Prabhdip Brar,  Chairperson,University Institute of Fashion Technology & Vocational Development (UIFT&VD), Panjab University, Chandigarh .

Dr. Brar gave a welcome address and introduced  the speaker, Mandy, a graduate in Fashion and Fine Art, with artistic abilities to do stunning makeovers, working with the world’s renowned brand M.A.C cosmetic to Fashion magazines like Harper Bazaar and Toronto Men’s Fashion week with over 7 years of experience in the makeup industry. He is well versed with his knowledge and current makeup techniques.

The talk spanned about the huge potential where the last 5 years have seen a 60% growth in this lucrative make up industry. Cosmetic industry encompasses haircare, skincare, hygiene and retail along with make-up.  The wedding business in India is 40-50 billion dollars industry just second to that of USA. Mandy suggested that Artistry required creative freedom. To be successful in this business you need to know what you are good at and should gain experience before venturing into the business. The right proportion of patience, personal connections, research and consistency are the essential requirements. Free lancing, YouTube blogging and social media influencers would help in spreading a good word of mouth about your good work.

Another Webinar titled – Online Trend of Shopping and Retail was conducted by Mr. Saurav Negi, founder of MIAMINX, a style destination for the trendiest and most affordable clothing online for latest in casual and fashion wear. The speaker pointed that providing solutions to the customer makes a brand win half the battle. It is the need of the hour for fashion and lifestyle brands to stay most relevant to the customers by conducting research and fill the gap in the market by focussing equally on quality and design. Need for Increased Visibility of the Right Product with Right kind of Marketing is the way forward. Brands can use either organic or sponsored platforms for marketing, tap the consumer base of influencers and bloggers but a brand can only thrive by reinventing themselves. The New Normal has its own set of challenges for entrepreneurship and brands are now focussing on Work from Home Collections. Also, the future of online shopping depends on Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence as brands work to provide customized and personalised experience by recognising the digital footprint left behind by internet users. The fashion students were advised to pursue entrepreneurial ventures in Ethnic wear as this segment has been continuously seeing growth than western wear.

These webinars were attended by more than 65 participants including faculty, research scholars and final year students of B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Fashion and Lifestyle Technology.

Webinar on Training of Preschool Teachers by PU

 The Department of Life Long Learning and Extension, Panjab University, Chandigarh organized a Webinar on Training Program for Preschool Teachers. Dr. Parmjit Singh Kang, Chairperson, Department of Life Long Learning introduced the theme of the Training Program and welcomed the participants. 

Teachers from Ankur School, Panjab University, Chandigarh and Sehjot Sr. Sec. Dhanas (UT) Chandigarh along with students of Department of LifeLong Learning participated.

Dr. Parminder K. Duggal, Principal, Ankur School, Panjab University and Prof. Prabha Vig were the Resource Persons for the webinar. In the end, Dr. Parmjit Singh Kang proposed the Vote of Thanks. 

जल्दी ही Unlock 4.0 की आएंगी गाइडलाइंस

Unlock4: पूरे देश में एक सितंबर से आवाजाही और आसान हो सकती है, स्कूल, कॉलेज, सिनेमा हॉल खोलने की नहीं मिलेगी अनुमति. अनलॉक-चार के गाइडलाइंस में किन-किन क्षेत्रों को खोला जा रहा है का जिक्र नहीं होगा। इसके बजाय सिर्फ उन क्षेत्रों का जिक्र होगा जो प्रतिबंधित रहेंगी।

कोरोना वायरस (Coronavirus) के कारण जारी लॉकडाउन के कारण देश भर के स्कूलों और कॉलेजों को बंद हुए 5 महीने हो चुके हैं. 31 अगस्त को अनलॉक 3.0 समाप्त होने के साथ यह उम्मीद की जा रही है कि गृह मंत्रालय (MHA) जल्द ही अनलॉक 4.0 के तहत स्कूलों को फिर से खोलने पर निर्णय ले सकता है. इस महीने के अंत तक दिशानिर्देश (guidelines) जारी किए जाने की भी संभावना है.

एक सितंबर से देश में अनलॉक 4 की शुरुआत हो रही है. ऐसे में सबकी नजर स्कूल और कॉलेज खोलने को लेकर सरकार के फैसले पर है. गृह मंत्रालय की ओर से जारी होने वाली गाइडलाइंस से पहले स्वास्थ्य मंत्रालय ने मंगलवार को साफ कर दिया है कि सरकार की ओर से स्कूल और कॉलेज खोलने को लेकर कोई निर्देश नहीं हैं. स्वास्थ्य मंत्रालय के सचिव राजेश भूषण ने कहा कि अनलॉक को लेकर गृह मंत्रालय की ओर से जारी गाइडलाइंस में स्कूल और कॉलेज के खोलने से संबंधित कोई निर्देश नहीं हैं.

राजेश भूषण ने कहा कि देश में जो भी गतिविधियां खोली जा रही हैं उसके लिए स्वास्थ्य मंत्रालय एसओपी जारी करती है. जब भी स्कूल और कॉलेज को खोलने का निर्णय होगा तो वो एसओपी प्रभाव में आएगा और उसको लागू किया जाना होगा. 

‘3 करोड़ से ज्यादा टेस्ट किए जा चुके’

देश में कोरोना की स्थिति को लेकर स्वास्थ्य मंत्रालय ने प्रेस कॉन्फ्रेंस की. मंत्रालय की ओर से बताया गया कि देश में अब तक 3 करोड़ 60 लाख से ज्यादा टेस्ट किए जा चुके हैं. स्वास्थ्य सचिव राजेश भूषण ने बताया कि देश में ठीक हुए मरीजों की संख्या एक्टिव केस से तीन गुना ज्यादा है. उन्होंने बताया कि देश में लैब की संख्या में भी इजाफा हुआ है. इसमें प्राइवेट और सरकारी लैब दोनों हैं. जिसके कारण टेस्टिंग की संख्या बढ़ी है. 

मंत्रालय की ओर से बताया गया कि कुल मामलों के 22.2 प्रतिशत केस ऐक्टिव हैं. रिकवरी रेट 75 प्रतिशत से ज्यादा हो गया है. देश में कोरोना से मृत्युदर 1.58 प्रतिशत है जो कि दुनिया में सबसे कम में शामिल है. पिछले 24 घंटे में एक्टिव केस की संख्या में 6,400 की गिरावट दर्ज हुई है. ये पहली बार हुआ है.

आईसीएमआर के महानिदेशक प्रोफेसर डॉ. बलराम भार्गव ने बताया कि भारत में कोरोना की तीन वैक्‍सीन का परीक्षण चल रहा है. सीरम इंस्‍टीट्यट की वैक्‍सीन का 2 (बी) फेज और 3 फेज टेस्‍ट चल रहा है. भारत बायोटेक और जेडस कैडिला की वैक्‍सीन ने 1 फेज का टेस्‍ट पूरा कर लिया है.   
 

Shradhanjali given to Arun Jaitley

Panjab University Chandigarh under Doctor Bheem Rao Ambedkar Centre organised first punyatithi shradhanjali in the sacred memory of Shri Arun Jaitley, Former Finance Minister. 

PU Vice Chancellor Prof. Raj Kumar initiated the proceedings while offering his salutation to the great personality of Shri Arun Jaitley . He shared with the audience how he has personally  learned many things from the personality of Shri Jaitley  who was always eager to help others. He commended various economic reforms like disinvestment of non performing PSUs, demonetisation, GST and Indian bankruptcy Code which have helped Indian economy to undergo structural reforms to help its millions of citizens. 

Shri Satyapal Jain ji, Additional Solicitor General Government of India , shared his life anecdotes with Shri Arun Jaitley whom he had personally known for last 45 years. He remembered his contributions in various fields ranging from Student politics to legal representation in the court rooms. He finds him  as a person  who was always ready  to sacrifice anything for his noble ideals. He also highlighted how as a product of public movement against the Emergency, Shri Arun Jaitley always remained connected to the grassroots. 

Shri K D Batish, Advocate High Court, Himachal Pradesh remembered Shri Arun Jaitley as a personality par excellence who was honest to the core and always ready to help others. He praised his acumen as an advocate.

 Professor Anju Suri, Chairperson, department of History , conducted the proceedings and eugolised the personality of Shri Arun Jaitley ji. Dr. Gurpal Singh offered vote of thanks whereas Dr. Monica welcomed the guests and Dr. Shiv Kumar Dogra highlighted the achievements of Shri  Arun Jaitley .

Webtalk on Wit and Humour from the Bar and Bench by PUAA

Panjab University Alumni Association organised a webtalk today on  “ Wit and Humour from the Bar and Bench”  by Prof. (Dr.) Balram K. Gupta, Director (Academics), Chandigarh Judicial Academy, Chandigarh and Prof. (Dr.) Shruti Bedi,   Professor of Law, University Institute of Legal Studies,PU.

Prof. Deepti Gupta, Dean Alumni Relations, Panjab University welcomed the eminent speakers and thanked them for taking out the time for this talk. Ms. Sonia Chandel from PUAA formally introduced and welcomed Prof. Balram Gupta and Prof. Shruti Bedi.

The webinar opened with a sense of anticipation. People were eager for some wit and humour. Prof. Balram Gupta shared some funny anecdotes and incidents from his years of practice which left everyone amused. Dr Gupta said that in any profession whether teaching , medical or legal, humour is a lubricant. Every teaching,if laced with humour and wit can bring out the seriousness of the subject , thereby making it more absorbing.The participants gave very positive feedback on the chat.

Then Prof. Bedi shared some interesting incidents, both from the Indian and English courts, which left the audience in splits. 

The speakers kept switching and taking turns to keep the audience engaged and mesmerised. They shared witty incidents from the life of Mr G Ramaswamy, Attorney General of India, and Mr C. K. Daphtary, who was the first Solicitor General of India  and was known for his witty replies. In the constitutional challenge to the Bombay Prohibition Act, when asked about the nature of the intoxicants which were declared prohibited under the Act, Mr Daphtary described them and, with a mischievous twinkle in his eye, added: “And then, My Lords, there are substances other than liquid refreshments which also intoxicate — and power is one of them”. Prof. Gupta also shared the famous remark “A Republic without a PUB is a mere RELIC”. Many such anecdotes and shenanigans were shared with the participants. 

Dr. Balram K. Gupta is a judicial educator at the national and international level; Designated Sr. Advocate; Former Director, National Judicial Academy, India; Dean, Faculty of Law, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar; Prof. and Chairman, Dept. of Laws, Panjab University, Chandigarh; and Parliamentary Fellow, ICPS. He has lectured at different universities and institutes in the UK and USA and has contributed papers in national and international journals. He has been honoured with the State Award of Nyaya Rattan. As Distinguished Alumnus, honoured at the First Global Meet Panjab University Alumni Association. Past President, Rotary Club Chandigarh Midtown (2002-03); Life Time Achievement Award by Rotary International District 3080; Paul Harris Fellow; Founder Member, Society of Meritorious Students, Chandigarh.

Prof. Shruti Bedi, Ph.D. is Professor of Law at the University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh. She is Director, Centre for Constitution and Public Policy, UILS, PU; Faculty Chair, Alternate Dispute Resolution and Client Counselling Board, UILS, PU; and is the former Coordinator, Centre for IAS, Panjab University. She has authored two books, co-edited four books, lectured and interacted with faculty from various countries and is regularly invited for international and national talks, media debates, panel discussions and lectures.

Towards the end, Prof. Deepti Gupta invited some of the members to unmute themselves and talk to the speakers if they wanted. There were many students of Prof. Balram Gupta and even professors of Prof. Shruti Bedi who congratulated them for the wonderful web talk. The webinar ended with a vote of thanks by Prof. Deepti Gupta to the speakers and the participants.
