हरियाणा प्रान्त के श्याम सिंह राजावत तीसरी बार बने प्रान्त संगठन मंत्री

श्याम सिंह राजावत को पुनः हरियाणा प्रान्त संगठन मंत्री घोषित किया गया यह निर्णय बीते दिन महाराष्ट्र के नागपुर में आयोजित अभाविप ( अखिल भारतीय विद्यार्थी परिषद ) राष्ट्रीय सम्मेलन में लिया गया।उनके अतिरिक्त हरियाणा प्रदेश के पुर्व अध्यक्ष प्रो. राजेन्द्र धीमान जी को राष्ट्रीय विशेष आमंत्रित सदस्य, प्रो. सुभाष कलसना जी, माधव रावत जी, सुश्री प्रसन्ता चावरिया और सूर्य प्रताप जी को राष्ट्रीय कार्यकारिणी सदस्य घोषित किया गया। अभाविप के मीडिया सह सन्योंजक पुरनूर ने यह जानकारी सांझा की।

सम्मेलन में अभाविप की राष्ट्रीय स्तर की समस्त सक्रिय इकाई शामिल रही जिसमे अभाविप राष्ट्रीय अध्यक्ष डॉ छघनभाई पटेल और राष्ट्रीय महामंत्री सुश्री निधि त्रिपाठी और उनके अतिरिक्त स्वयं सेवक एम ए सरकार्यवाह और श्री सुरेश भईया जी जोशी मुख्य परिचय में उपस्तिथ रहे।

हर साल यह सम्मेलन अभाविप इकाई द्वारा किया जाता है जिसमे देश भर से अभाविप कार्यकर्ता एक जगह एकगरित होकर परिषद के आगामी कार्यक्रम की योजनाओं पर चर्चा करते हैं और यह सब प्रतिभागी के हज़ारों की संख्या में होते हैं परंतु इस वर्ष घोर माहमारी के चलते इस कार्यक्रम को भव्य स्तर पर आयोजित न करते हुए और सामाजिक दूरी को ध्यानपूर्वक रखते हुए एक छोटे स्तर पर यह कार्यक्रम आयोजित कर हर एक प्रांत में से 2 या 3 प्रांतीय स्तर के कार्यकर्ताओं को अपेक्षित कर उन्हें इस सम्मेलन का प्रतिभागी बनाकर इस कार्यक्रम का उदघाटन व समापन भी किया गया यह कार्यक्रम दो दिवसीय रहा (25 दिसंबर से 26 दिसंबर) जिसमे न केवल आगामी योजनाओं पर चर्चा की गई परन्तु इस बार यह कार्यक्रम केवल उन्ही कार्यकर्ताओं तक सीमित नही रहा बल्कि जो सम्मेलन में शामिल नहीं हो सके लाइव स्ट्रीमिंग के माध्यम से उन कार्यकर्ताओं तक भी यह पहुंचा । हरियाणा प्रदेश की पूरी अभाविप इकाईयों द्वारा अपने अपने जिलों में दिखाया गया जिसका आंकड़ा कुछ इस प्रकार था की हरियाणा प्रदेश में 49 स्थानो पर49 स्क्रीन के जरिये 20 जिला 49 ईकाई के कुल 1134 सहभागियो ने भाग लिया जिनमे 846 छात्र 147 छात्रा 103 प्राध्यापक तथा 38 अन्य ने भाग लिया।

Dr Kashmir Singh has been granted a project on genome editing of potato by ICAR-NASF

Dr Kashmir Singh, Associate Professor, Biotechnology Department, Panjab University Chandigarh has been granted a project on genome editing of potato by ICAR-NASF New Delhi. The total cost of project is 1.65 crore and it will be run in collaboration with CPRI, Shimla and IISER, Trivandrum. Dr Singh will work on designing CRISPR-CAS mediated gene editing methods to convert the process of meiosis into mitosis for the generation of true potato seeds. This work will ensure low heterozygosity in potato seeds and will help farmers to grow true hybrid crop along with low pathogen infections.

Plenary sessions at PU

The Chandigarh Science Congress (CHASCON-2020) is being held through online mode from 17th-19th December, 2020 by Panjab University. It was inaugurated on 17th December, 2020 by Prof. RK Singla, Dean University Instructions, Panjab University, Chandigarh.

On 17th December, 2020, the afternoon session on COVID-19 covered various aspects of virus biology and vaccine development by eminent scientists and clinical management. Prof. Paula Videira from Lisbon University gave insights into role of glycans in biology and Prof. Ravi Gupta, Medical Superintendent, GMCH-32 gave insights into clinical management of disease in the hospital setting.

In the session on chemistry and drug development Prof. Yoshiki Yamaguchi from Tohoku Medical and Pharmaceutical University, Japan gave insights into glycan structure determination using NMR approach. Prof. Asit K Chakraborti from IIT Ropar highlighted the contributions of his group towards developing green chemistry and anti-tubercular drugs. Prof N Jayaraman from IISc Bangalore gave insights into carbohydrate chemistry and its role in developing useful products.

A panel discussion was held on start-ups and Dr. Rohit Sharma and the panellists gave insights into the experience of young entrepreneurs and answered questions from audience.

Special lectures were delivered by Prof. MM Sharma, FRS, Professor of eminence, IICT, Mumbai and Prof. Nigel Hughes from University of California. Prof. Sharma recounted his experiences in developing chemical industry oriented technologies and encouraged young scientists to develop novel techniques in keeping with the theme of the congress. Prof. Nigel gave valuable insights on his work on fossils found during his investigations in the Himalayan region which gave insights into their marine origin and the Himalayan uplift and erosion phenomenon.

On 18th December the conference is being conducted in eight different scientific sections where eminent scientists are giving invited talks and young scholars / faculty / scientists are being given an opportunity to showcase their research work through posters, abstracts and oral presentations.

  • The Research Proposal should cover tentative title/research area, its rationale, theoretical frame work, objectives, research questions, and proposed research methodology. This will have to be presented before the Interview Committee of the Department at the time of interview. All the applicants must prepare 8 to 10 minutes PPT as per their research proposal. The research aptitude of the applicant will be assessed on the basis of interview/presentation. However, the topic of research will be finalized in consultation with the supervisor after admission. The Research proposal for the presentation for the admission should include reference to 3 or 4 reference books and 4 or 5 journal articles.

Important Instructions:

The candidates who have cleared any of the following national tests can apply for M.Phil/Ph.D Admission for the session 2020-21:

  • UGC-CSIR NET including JRF, SLET, GATE or any other prestigious test for national level scholarship/fellowship conducted at all India level on behalf of national institutions for example GPAT and JEST.
    • Direct awardees of fellowship for pursuing Ph.D.
    • Working permanent teachers of Panjab University and affiliated colleges
    • Ph.D Entrance Test of Panjab University for admission to Ph.D/M.Phil shall be walid for 3 years.

The GATE qualifying score be considered as the basic. GATE/GPAT of any other national level test meant for admission to Ph.D/M.Phil shall be valied forever.

Online Refresher Course on Culture of Translation at PU from tomorrow 35 teachers of 9 states will participate

Chandigarh – 17 December:

A two week online refresher course on Indian languages will commence at PU from Saturday ,19 December. More than 35 language teachers from different universities and colleges will participate in this course organized by UGC-human resource development centre(HRDC) of Panjab University, Chandigarh. Director of HRDC, Prof SK Tomar informed that Vice Chancellor of HP Central University, Dharmshala Prof Kuldip Chand Agnihotri will be the chief guest in the inaugural session while eminent journalist Shri Rahul Dev will deliver the key-note address. Prof Anand Vardhan Sharma, visiting professor, Sofia University ,Bulgaria will be guest of honour. Deputy Director HRDC, Dr Jayanti Dutta informed that teachers from 9 different states and five languages(Hindi,English, Punjabi, Marathi and Sanskrit) will be taking part in this course.  

Course Coordinator and Associate Professor of Department of Hindi, Dr Gurmeet Singh said that keeping in view the increasing importance of translation in present times and its role in bringing various languages and cultures closer the central theme of the course has been chosen as “Culture of Translation and Translation of Culture”. 36th National conference of IATLIS ORGANISED BY DLIS, PU

Department of Library and Information Science(DLIS), Panjab University, Chandigarh is organizing 36th National conference of Indian Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science (IATLIS) in online mode during 17th –18th December, 2020 so to reach out to LIS students, research scholars and the professional colleagues to enhance their professional knowledge and update them in the Library and Information Science field.

In the inauguration ceremony of the conference, Prof Preeti Mahajan, Chairperson , welcomed the guests and the participants. Prof. I.V.Malhan, President IATLIS gave an introduction and brief history of IATLIS. Prof. Jagtar Singh, Director Partnership and collaborations, IATLIS introduced the participants with the theme of the conference.

Prof. Bhaskar Makherji, Head, Department of Library and Information Science, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi delivered the key note address and highlighted as to what should be done to improve our knowledge skills.

 Dr. D.V.Singh, Former University Librarian, University of Delhi, Delhi  was the Guest of Honour, who talked of Impact of COVID on libraries and LIS education.

Prof. B.K.Kuthiala, Chairperson, Haryana Higher Education Council was the Chief Guest. While thanking the IATLIS and DLIS for inviting him to the inaugural session, he expressed his positive views and perception towards the LIS profession while narrating various incidents in his life as a beneficiary of the friendly library services. He mentioned that the LIS teachers have the great responsibility as they educate and train the future LIS professionals. He was impressed by the talks of the previous speakers. He gave examples from the ancient Vedas to elucidate his thoughts. He was of the firm view that the participants will get an opportunity to learn new knowledge and emerging technologies from the two days deliberations. He also emphasized upon the role of technology to be played in teaching and learning in general and LIS education in particular in the aftermath of Covid-19 while everyone is adjusting to the new normal.

 Prof. H.P.S.Kalra, General Secretary, IATLIS proposed the vote of thanks. More than 100 participants from different parts of the country and abroad participated in the conference.

Self Evaluation is the Need of the Hour- Mukul Kanitkar

Knowledge cannot percolate and sustain by rod learning and there is a dire need that today’s knowledge and examination system should be such that it should prepare students for creativity and originality and emphasised on the continues evaluation of one’s personality and assessment of knowledge, said Shri Mukul Kanitkar, while speaking Eminent Scholar and Academic Activist on the topic ‘The Examination System’ during online lecture organized by Publication Bureau Panjab University, Chandigarh.

He further added that in human life nothing is undoable and we should not only  take the phenomenon of all examinations of life in calm and composed manner, but also face the all challenges boldly by developing self-confidence, self-discipline and  preparing ourselves to compete with attributes and achievements of the our own.

On the occasion, there was a book release of the Punjabi Version of Mukul Kanitkar’s book entitled Hasde Hasde Parikhiya Deo by Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, PU. The book was translated by Prof. Uma Sethi, School of Punjabi Studies which is published by Publication Bureau of the University.

PU VC  apprised the theme of the lecture and talked about the scholarly personality of the speaker. He also appreciated efforts of the Publication Bureau for publishing the works of the scholar of other walks of life along with University teachers.

Earlier, Prof. Devinder Singh, Dept. of Laws gave brief introduction about the achievements of Shri Mukul Kanitkar.

Those present included Professor Anju Suri, Dean International Students, Prof. Sukhbir Kaur, Dean Student Welfare(W), Dr Parminder Duggal, Principal Ankur School. Professor Gurpal Singh Sandhu gave the vote of thanks.

Vivek Atray to head Chandigarh Chapter of PRCI

PRCI to setup Young Communicators Club in the universities in the region: Vivek Atray

Chandigarh Chapter of Public Relations Council of India elected Mr Vivek Atray, former IAS officer, motivational speaker, and author, has been elected as Chairman for 2020-21. 

Vivek Atray who had been engaged with the Chapter of PRCI since 2010 said that there is a greater need for every organisation to deploy effective communication for its survival, growth, and success. 

With extensive senior resource persons available in the city, the Chapter would not only organise professional training programmes for the corporate and public sector but would also be establishing Young Communicator Clubs (YCC) in various Universities to prepare the youth for the challenges of life. 

Public Relations Council of India is the national apex body of public relations practitioners, communicators, academicians, and media personalities with 34 chapters across India and chapters in Dubai, Sri Lanka,Bangladesh ,Nepal and Bhutan.. 
Other office bearers of the Chapter include Vice Chairman Prof Jayanth Pethkar from School of Communication Studies, PU; Secretary Sudeep Rawat, PR consultant; Joint Secretary Gurmeet Singh Khaira, PRO, DIPR Punjab; Pavittar Singh, Director PIB. The executive members include Amit Roy, Aditya Sharma, Ritu Nag, Lalit Sharma, Shikha Nehra and Arun Jauhar.

            The last date for receipt of admission form for Ph.D./M.Phil  courses  for the session 2020-2021 at University Business School, Panjab University has been extended to 28.12.2020, as permitted by Prof R K Singla, Dean of University Instruction.

 University Business School, Panjab University Chandigarh, again invites applications for admission to Ph.D. programme, for academic session 2020-2021, from following types of candidates who have qualified the UGC (NET) /JRF/ SLET etc. examination with Fellowship/Scholarship and Direct awardees of fellowship for pursuing Ph.D. and working permanent teachers of Panjab University and affiliated college examination with Fellowship/Scholarship.
