Sh. Banwari Lal Purohit Ji, Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh today released a book at Raj Bhawan entitled ‘India at 75’edited by Dr. Amneet Gill, Department of Evening Studies – Multi Disciplinary Research Centre Panjab University Chandigarh. The Hon’ble Governor congratulated her and encouraged her to continue with such research work in future also.
As we gear up to celebrate 75 years of independence, this book forms a part of the Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav celebrations and presents 8 themes offering relevant insights on significant aspects related to India. The diversity of themes examined include chronicling the various facets of the Indian national movement analyzing the post independence achievements of the Indian nation significance of India’s internal security concerns, role of literature in the development of nationalistic ideas, journey of IT advancement in India after independence and the innumerable efforts made by India to achieve the strature of being the global vaccine hub.
Dr. Amneet has written two books and has to her credit 15 research papers published in various National and International Journals of repute.

Prof. Rajat Sandhir, Department of Bio-Chemistry, Panjab University, Chandigarh has been conferred with KT Shetty Memorial Oration of Indian Academy of Neuro Sciences for the year 2021. Recently, he was among World Top 2% Scientists in the data released by Stanford University, Stanford, USA.
Dr. Rajat Sandhir has received his M.Sc and Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry from the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh. He has been at the Department of Biochemistry, Panjab University for more than 20 years. His research interests are to understand the biochemical and molecular mechanisms involved in development of neurodegenerative conditions like metabolic encephalopathies, dementia’s and brain injury with a particular interest to investigate the role of oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunctions and alterations in permeability of Blood-Brain-Barrier. In addition, his interest is also to identify neuroprotective strategies that could ameliorate neurodegenerative conditions. He has over 200 papers to his credit and has mentored over two-dozen students for Ph.D. He has an h-index of 46 and i10 index of 130. He has been on the editorial board of many international journals.

The University Institute of Fashion Technology & Vocational Development(UIFT&VD) Panjab University, Chandigarh organized an online on the history and technique of “Phulkari embroidery” in association with Thread Written, a Netherlands-based organisation that offers creative learning experiences in embroidery and traditional textiles through workshops, embroidery patterns, and travel retreats throughout the United States and Europe.
Dr. Anu H. Gupta, Chairperson was the resource person. She shared her knowledge of Phulkari with the attendees. She discussed the history, stitches, designs, types, and styles of Phulkari, as well as how these have evolved over time. Following that, a hands-on demonstration of the embroidery technique was given. As a result, patterns and designs were offered in advance to participants so that they may practise and enjoy the skill and embroidery, while she gave a live demonstration of the technique of making Phulkari. She is also the author of book ‘Phulkari from Punjab: Embroidery in Transition’.
Eleven people from all over the United States registered for the workshop and participated online.

The Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and General Surgery of Dr. Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences and Hospital, Panjab University Chandigarh organized a a day long Continuing Dental Education(CDE) Programme on theme Medical emergencies in Dental Practice.
The event was presided over by Dr. Jagat Bhushan, Controller of Examination, Panjab University, Chandigarh and chaired by Prof. Hemant Batra, Principal-cum-Professor of the Institute and Dr. Satinder Gomber, ex-HOD Department of Anaesthesia, GMCH, sector-32 Chandigarh which was attended by 300 students and faculty of the Institute.
The CDE Programme comprised of lectures delivered by an array of distinguished faculty members of the Institute with the main focus on providing knowledge and expertise to deal with medical emergencies in Dental Practice. Knowledge to deal with COVID-19 was also shared with the audience. Live demonstration on Basic Life Support was given by Dr. Harsimran Kaur Boparai and Dr. Sukhwinder Singh.

A 7 member student team from Design Innovation Centre(DIC), Panjab University has been funded Rs.5,50,000/- by MHRD, Institution’s Innovation Council(IIC) for developing a Filament Extruder Machine START-UP.
UIET is the only team from North India to have been funded, out of a total 131 teams across the country. IIC-Panjab University inspired a multi-disciplinary B.E. student team-Ishank Bansal(Team Lead), Shubham Rattra, Tanya Aggarwal, Sachin Singh, Navudhay Pratap Singh, Vivek Mishra and Sakshi Gandhi under the able mentorship of faculty members -Dr Prashant Jindal, Dr Mamta Juneja and Dr Rakesh Tuli to develop this innovative product. This machine has been going through various design upgradations over the past 1 year in the Medical Devices & Restorative Technologies lab at DIC, UIET, Panjab University, Chandigarh
This team competed in the 2nd edition of IIC-National Innovation Contest (2020) where the students from IIC-Institutes took part in this competition that was designed in a way where each team will traverse a path from problem identification and ideation to building business model and finally entering the phase of Enterprise development in a time period of one year process through multiple elimination rounds that were conducted in an online mode due to pandemic to identify the most innovative and useful Proof of Concepts(PoCs) developed by engineering students.
A total of 9000 plus teams were scouted from more than 900 IIC institutions across India and got 1400 odd best prototype nominations from Institutes for further evaluation and support. After multiple rounds of evaluation and mentoring rounds and training, finally 410 reached a level of development of a business plan for their innovations. Students cleared competitive rounds of evaluation which involved extensive knowledge of business plan, clinical trials and commercialization aspects.
Then finally 131 teams from the program NIC 2020 and YUKTI2l.0 were selected for finals and after going through rounds of assessment and pitching, finally, 45 teams were selected for funding and incubation linkage support.
Out of these, team UIET was finally selected for Grant Support of Rs.5,50,000/- and Incubation Linkage by MHRD.
The startup Simply 3D is a 3D sector-based venture that develops and constructs wire extruder machines that produce low-cost filaments used for FDM-based 3D printing by utilizing waste/virgin plastic shredded pellets. This machine was developed with the funding and technical support from DIC (Medical Devices & Restorative Technologies lab) and aspire to contribute towards the Made-in-India policy by setting up India-based wire extruder machine manufacturing venture and by allowing customers to shop and invest in a sustained environment for 3D printing by reducing plastic waste consumption.

University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Panjab University, Chandigarh, organized day one of the Students’ Induction Programme, which is being held from 17th to 20th November, 2021. The orientation is being organized by the Department of Applied Sciences, UIET under the guidance and patronage of Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Prof. J.K. Goswamy, Director UIET, Panjab University, Chandigarh in collaboration with the Brand Promotion Committee.
The objective of the orientation is to sensitize students towards exploring their academic interests and introduce students to the curriculum of UIET and Panjab University. During this four day event, expert lectures will be delivered by experts from different domains of society like PGIMER, Art of Living, social workers, etc.
The inaugural address was delivered by Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University who motivated the students to come out with innovative solutions to problems. He highlighted the tremendous opportunities available in Panjab University and encouraged the students to collaborate with multiple disciplines and come up with startup ideas. His address was followed by a welcome note by Prof. JK Goswamy, Director, UIET. He stated that in this era of COVID-19 pandemic, the online orientation will definitely give them an insight about the university. All the different branch coordinators addressed the students and apprised them about the facilities and resources available within their disciplines. The ceremony was concluded with a thank you note by the coordinator of the Department of Applied Sciences, UIET.
The online inaugural session was attended by 400 students.

Department of Community Education and Disability Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh organized Web Series-1 with Collaboration in National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities (NIEPVD), Dehradun, on the topic “Understanding Visual and Performing Arts: Its Role in Enhancing Learning for Children with Special Needs today under the Web series of AZADI KA AMRIT MAHOTSAV.
The Webinar was organized under the patronage of our honorable Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raj Kumar and chaired by Prof. (Dr.) Navleen Kaur Chairperson, Department of Community Education and Disability Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh. The chairperson introduced the topic and warm welcomed the resource person Dr. Pankaj Kumar, Assistant Professor, National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities (NIEPVD), Dehradun. He highlighted different aspects of arts and multiple intelligence which involved in creating the relationship between human and environment. It was also focused on the types of arts (visual and performing) which are required by the children with special needs in the process of academic and nonacademic learning. By understanding and training of these arts, children with special needs will be capable to orient themselves appropriately and enhance of their potential of learning very comfortably.
Around 100 participants like; rehabilitation professionals, research scholars, students, parents, and other stakeholders attended the Webinar. The skills learnt in this webinar can be utilized by them to enhance the learning capability of children with special needs (CWSN). Dr. Md. Saifur Rahman proposed the vote of thanks.

Panjab University, Chandigarh took out a procession on winning Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA), here today, which was graced by Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor (VC) and all Senior PU Officials, Sports Coaches, Administrative & Ground Staff of the Directorate of Sports, students and staff.
PU VC congratulated all for this incredible achievement and assured all possible facilities to be provided to the sports persons for achieving still more in the field of sports.
The procession was for making a hat trick for MAKA after winning the trophy for the year 2019-20, 2020-21. Earlier, in 2019 also, PU won the trophy. PU made hat trick after a long span of 50 years.
The procession started from the office of Vice-Chancellor, PU amidst beats of dhol and bhangra by students and staff of PU. The MAKA trophy was taken on an open flower laden jeep with PU VC, Prof. Prashant Gautam, Director, Physical Education and Sports, Sh. Vikram Nayyar, officiating Registrar and Finance & Development Officer, Prof. Anju Suri, Dean College Development Council, Prof. S.K. Tomar, Dean Research, Sh. Rakesh Malik, Deputy Director of Sports and Ms. Neeru Malik, PU Fellow.
Throughout the procession, huge number of employees were present for cheering up the officials carrying the MAKA Trophy. The sweets were also distributed on the occasion.
