Webinar on “Design Registration Process: An Insight” At UIFT & VD

            University Institute of Fashion Technology & Vocational Development (UIFT & VD) Panjab University Chandigarh held a lecture series Learn the ropes with Alumni by Dr. Charu Kohli, an expert in textiles on Design Registration Process: An insight. She pursued her PhD from UIFT, PU and developed a prototype for a reusable baby diaper.

            Dr. Anu H. Gupta, Chairperson, UIFT & VD, welcomed and appreciated Dr. Charu Kohli on her success in obtaining design registration for the reusable baby diaper. She also emphasised the significance of intellectual property rights for fashion design and technology experts.

            Dr. Charu Kohli shared her experience of registering a reusable baby diaper design. She elaborated on prerequisites and the procedure of filling out the documents to be submitted to the Design Wing of the Patent Office, which is located at the Intellectual Property Office in Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai. She expounded on the terms “copyright, patent, and trademark,” instructing students on the distinctions between the three. She explained registration sheet samples and design classifications. She emphasised that students should not be scared to take risks and step outside of their comfort zone in order to gain greater exposure and urged students who conduct study on designing products to register their designs.

            Students expressed interest in the webinar, which concluded with the resource person answering questions on filling and filing the application for the design registration. Around 50 students and alumni joined the webinar, which was organised by Ms. Parneet Brar, guest faculty at UIFT.

Constitution Day by NSS, UILS, PU

            Prof. Rajinder Kaur,  Director, UILS, PU informed that the event was organized to make the students and NSS volunteers aware of the basic essence of the Constitution of India, how it was framed and the responsibilities and duties of the citizens towards the Constitution.

            NSS in collaboration with UIAMS, UIET and the Centre for Medical Physics organized the webinar to commemorate constitution day which was attended by 178 participated.

            Prof. Ashwani Koul briefed about the activities of NSS.

            Prof. Devinder Singh, Secretary to Vice Chancellor and Chairperson of Dept. of Laws, PU spoke at length on functioning of Constitution. He elaborated that how the Indian constitution is a supreme, citizen centric, living and a unique document which belongs to everyone. He inspired everyone to render their duties with full honesty.

          Senior faculty of the departments, NSS Programme officers, research scholars, students and affiliated colleges attended the event.

National Service Scheme, University Institute of Legal Studies(UILS), Panjab University in collaboration with Legal Aid Society, UILS organised a Preamble pledge-taking ceremony on the occasion of 73rd Constitution Day of India by 160 students of UILS.

Workshop on Endodontics at Dental College, PU

A day long workshop was organized by the Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics of Dr. Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences and Hospital, Panjab University, Chandigarh today.  The theme of the event was – “Magnification and Glide Path Management in Endodontics key to success” which was presided over by Dr. Jagat Bhushan, Controller of Examination, Panjab University, Chandigarh.    

            The workshop comprised of lecture  and hands on by Dr. Rahul Grover, an eminent Endodontics who has expertise in Microscopes and Rotary Endodontics.

            Accordingly to Dr. Ruchi Singla, Convener, the event was attended by 100 students and faculty of the Institute and adjoining dental colleges who gathered to dive into this sea of knowledge.

WEBINAR ON “KIDS WEAR INDUSTRY” BY UIFT, PU

A webinar titled “Overview of the Kids Wear Industry” was organized at the University Institute of Fashion Technology & Vocational Development (UIFT & VD), Panjab University Chandigarh. Dr. Anu H. Gupta, Chairperson, UIFT & VD stated thatChildren’s apparel is an important and growing area in the garment industry and it is important for students of fashion design and technology to understand the intricacies of this sector so that they acquire the necessary skills for employability in this sector. This webinar was attended by 65 participants, which included students, research scholars, alumni, and faculty members.

Ms. Ayushi Parmar, Design Lead at Easybuy, a Landmark India Entity, was the speaker for the online session. She gave a detailed presentation on the history of Kidswear, the global kids’ market, and the kids’ market in India. She explained the process of designing Kidswear collection in an industry. Kidswear category is segregated by gender, age, season, looks, subclasses, fabric, and distribution channel. Then the speaker gave a thorough outlook of design processes to make kid’s clothing which includes customer study, market study, trend forecast, range planning, and designing at last. She highlighted the dos and don’ts that a designer should keep in mind when designing Kidswear clothing. 

Ms. Parmar highlighted that the kidswear industry is ever-growing and will keep making profits even during global crisis or pandemic as it’s a necessity. She encouraged students to experiment with more kidswear collections and come up with more kidswear brands on social media. Ms. Ginni Singh, JRF, UIFT & VD, coordinated the webinar and thanked the speaker for her detailed insights into this business, which are surely going to help design students in future design practices.

Fire Safety Demonstration for PU Security

A special lecture /demo class on fire safety was organized for the security and administrative staff at Administrative Office of Panjab University, Chandigarh by Sh. Vikram Singh, Chief of University Security, PU. Sh Amarjeet Singh Fire Officer , Municipal Corporation, UT and the Training Instructor from Fire Office, UT gave training about use of fire extinguisher w.r.t. various types of fire. They operated fire water hydrant system also and explained the procedure of using the same.

Constitution Day 2021 at PU

 To commemorate the National Constitution Day, Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, PU read out the Preamble and pledged to uphold the values and principles of the Constitution, today.

            Prof. V.R.Sinha, Dean University Instructions, Prof. S.K.Tomar, Dean Research, Prof. Devinder Singh, Secretary to Vice Chancellor, Prof. Meena Sharma, Dean Student Welfare (Women), Prof. Ashok Kumar, Associate DSW, Prof. Deepti Gupta, Dean International Students, Prof. Anupama Sharma, Dean Alumni Relations, Prof. Sukhbir Kaur, Prof. Simrit Kahlon, along with entire staff of VC office building, were present.

            Similarly, CA Vikram Nayyar, Registrar, PU in the presence of Dr. Jagat Bhushan, Controller of Examination, and all DRs, ARs and staff of Administrative Block, also took the pledge.  

            Almost all departments of PU took the pledge on the Constitution day in the presence of faculty and staff. Some of the departments include Education, Alumni House, Political Science, Geography, USOL, Biochemistry, Community Education, Public Administration, Computer Centre, UIHTM, Chemistry, Dept. of Life Long Learning, Sports, VVBIS&IS, Hoshiarpur.

Student Sensitization Session at Panjab University

The Placement Cell of the Department of Economics in collaboration with Central Placement Cell Panjab University, Chandigarh organised a Student Sensitization Session, today.

Prof. Amandeep Singh Marwaha encouraged students to make their own decisions towards their future and follow their dreams. He also enlightened students on how to plan their career.

Dr. Smita Sharma, TPO, Department of Economics  invited  the Alumni Guests – Ms. Harleen Batra and Ms. Mridul Mehndiratta who shared their experiences in the corporate job market, and what mistakes students make and how they can improve themselves. While Ms. Harleen Batra gave students an insight into the corporate world, Dr. Mridul guided the students on indispensability of online platforms like LinkedIn. The sessions covered various aspects of technical and interpersonal skills needed to plan a successful career.

The highly interactive sessions covered the multidimensional aspects of a career as a student of economics which had multiple queries from the students which were appropriately addressed.

Prof. Meena Sharma, Honorary Director, Central Placement Cell and   Dr Amrita Shergill, Chairperson, Department of Economics, were also present during the session.

Webinar on Communal Harmony in India at PU

NSS in collaboration with University School of Open Learning (USOL) and the Centre for Medical Physics, Panjab University Chandigarh celebrated the communal harmony week by organizing a webinar.

Prof. Devinder Singh, Chairperson, Department of Law and SVC, PU was the distinguished speaker of the webinar entitled “COMMUNAL HARMONY IN INDIA”. He mentioned that, Indians are Live example of communal harmony. India is a blessed nation, as it is birth place of many religions. The diverse culture is our religion and it is our strength, and also it is rare feature of a society. Indian respects every religion and state follows positive secularism. He explained the meaning of communal harmony by giving example of the paintings in the Indian constitution.

Dr. Vivek Kumar, Chairperson, Centre for Medical Physics told that peace can only exist between communities once the importance of communal harmony is understood and thanked the audience in the end.

Earlier, NSS Programme officer Dr. Richa Sharma (USOL) welcomed the participants and introduced the speaker to the audience. Prof. Madhurima Verma (USOL), Dr. Shankar Sehgal (UIET), Dr. Naveen Kumar (UIAMS) and NSS Programme officers attended the event. Approx. 95 faculty members and students attended the webinar.

NSS CLEANLINESS DRIVE AT ARTS BLOCK-III, PU

Chandigarh November 24, 2021

            Department of NSS in association with the Centre for Medical Physics, Panjab University, Chandigarh organized CLEANLINESS & AWARENESS DRIVE at the Arts Block–III PU to promote the initiative Swachh Bharat Mission among students. Dr. Vivek Kumar, Chairperson, Centre for Medical Physics, Dr. Vivek Kapoor (DSJIDH) and about 20 NSS student volunteers participated in this program. The main objective of cleaning was to remove polythene and garbage from the ARTS BLOCK-III. NSS program officers motivated the participants to protect the environment from the plastic waste and to make these kinds of cleanliness activities a routine to keep their surroundings clean and green.

The Future of Legal Education discussed by PU Laws

The Department of Laws, Panjab University, Chandigarh  organised an online panel discussion on “Future of Legal Education in India:  Issues and Challenges”, today.The event was conducted in the auspicious presence of Prof. (Dr.) Ranbir Singh , Former Vice Chancellor National Law University, Delhi and Distinguished Prof. Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala and HNLU Raipur ; Dr. G.S. Bajpai, V.C Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala ; Prof. (Dr.) Balram K. Gupta , Prof. Emeritus and Senior Advocate, Director (Academics) of Chandigarh Judicial Academy. Prof. (Dr.) Devinder Singh, Chaiperson of Dept. of Laws, coordinator of the event introduced the dignitaries and initiated the discussion with most prominent issue of present time i.e. fate of legal education in India especially Three years LLB programmes. The structure of legal institutes in India was explained by distinguished Prof. Ranbir Singh. He  reflected upon the intricacies of existing State Universities Institutes such as Panjab University, Kurukshetra University etc. and need to introduce changes in present curriculum to make it more suitable to fast changing competitive world. He further mentioned that internships play an important role in skill development and thus opportunities for the same must be provided to students from the 1st year itself. Prof. G.S Vajpayee explained the importance of research in legal field and urged faculty members to help students in developing the same by organising workshops focussing on methods and tools of research. He stressed on preparing students for empirical research and that they should be motivated and supported financially to conduct the same. On the issue of placements at State Universities, Prof. Balram K Gupta  stated that proper arrangements must be made at the Institute and private companies or solicitor firms must be invited. He emphasised on preparing students for the placement sessions by organising orientation programmes, personality development programmes etc. No doubt he mentioned about the greatness of  Department of Laws, Panjab University and said that its legacy is enough to motivate students to do better in life and to provide favourable job opportunities. The discussion was then followed by  Q/A session in which students participated with great enthusiasm.
