VC Launched the First Video of Mehar Chand Mahajan Boys Hostel

            The first video of Mehar Chand Mahajan, Boys Hostel Number 1, Panjab University, Chandigarh was launched by Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh on 24th Feb. 2021. The video features the facilities provided to the university residents and various activities carried out in the hostel throughout the year.

            This initiative was progressively supported by the DSWs  Prof. Jagtar Singh, Prof. Meena Sharma and Prof. Ashok Kumar. On this video release, Dr. Rajeev Kumar, Warden, BH1 said that the video provides a glimpse of the efforts put by the residents and staff to make hostel a lively place for students while they are away from their families. He further added that this video is also a part of the University’s initiative headed by Director, Public Relations to showcase the positive activities carried out in the hostel for comprehensive growth of students.

L.L.B. 6th semester students being welcomed after a dramatic break of 2 years

The Chairperson of Department of laws, Prof. Dr. Devinder Singh formally welcomed students to the Campus after a long break of 2 years. Sir, in his first offline communication with students addressed the apprehensions of the students and acknowledged the fact that the younger generation has suffered a lot during the pandemic. We know this unique moment will present opportunities for our students to develop the essential capacities of resilience and recovery from unplanned setbacks. The main focus is to deliver the degree on time for the professional growth of the students.

Prof. Devinder emphasised on floating the idea of placement in the Department for which the placement brochure is under process. Sir, also expressed the relevance of Participation of the students in the upcoming events for which the feedback and any initiative of the students is being welcomed which will help in creating a more equitable and inclusive Department of laws community. As much as possible, adherence to the COVID protocols shall be followed in terms of wearing masks, social distancing. Looking forward to learning, exploring and growing together.

Faculty Development Program on ‘Understanding Geodiversity and Geoheritage’ starts at Panjab University

            A week long Faculty Development Program organized by HRDC, Panjab University, on the theme ‘Understanding Geodiversity and Geoheritage’ started today in Online Mode. The chief guest for the inaugural session of the program was Dr. S.K Varshney, Advisor and Head, International Cooperation, Department of Science and technology, Government of India.

            The seven day program will cover various topics including Concept of Geodiversity and Geoheritage, role of UNESCO and IUGS in designation of Geoheritage and Heritage Stones. The course will also entail case studies from different continents, and status of India vis-à-vis. world. The first day of the course gave an opportunity to the participants to listen to Dr. Varshney who spoke about the relevance of understanding the concepts of Geodiversity in every day living. Prof. Dr. Gurmeet Kaur, course coordinator and resource person took an elaborate session on the topic, ‘Geodiversity all around us’. She drew examples from vicinity, Panjab University campus and created a vivid session for the participants. The third session for the day had a talk on the topic, ’Geodiversity, Geoheritage and Geoparks’ supplemented with excellent pictorial depiction of geodiversity by Dr. Om Bhargava (retired Director, Geological Survey of India), an eminent geoscientist, with an experience of over 60 years. 

            The Interdisciplinary FDP has over 30 participants not only from diverse subject areas like Geology, Geography, English, Hindi, Mass Communication, Social Work, Physics, Zoology, Political science, Environment Science, library science but also from various parts of the country like Maharashtra, Kerala, Pune, West Bengal, Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh.

Dr. Neha Gulati delivered Handling Literature and Reference Management

An invited talk on Handling Literature and Reference Management was delivered by Dr. Neha Gulati, Assistant Professor, University Business School, Panjab University, Chandigarh for the participants of  HRDC, Pondicherry University, Puducherry. 

The objective of the session was to facilitate researchers in augmenting innovativeness in managing literature search and manuscript writing. Participants explored features of the Mendeley software for reference management. “The participants were engrossed by the power of this software to automatically generate citations and bibliography in thousands of different styles while preparing the manuscript. Thus, a novel pathway for literature search, archiving and retrieval has been initiated,” Gulati said.

Dr. Neha Gulati has received Teaching and Research Excellence National Award, May 2018.  She is Gold Medallist and Scholarship Holder in Post Graduation (MCA). Her  paper scored Second Position in an International Conference and got she also got Best Poster Award in International Conference in  2014 in  Panjab University, Chandigarh.

With teaching experience of 20 years, she has delivered more than 90 Extension Lectures at Chandigarh, Chennai, Gauhati, Gwalior, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Indore, Jammu and Kashmir, Nanital, Puducherry, Punjab, Pune, Gujrat (Rajkot), Shillong and Uttrakhand (Dehradun). She has authored three books and has received certification for successfully completing EndNote Series and Web of Science series by Clarivate.

DST-STUTI Program launched with great fervor at SAIF PU

Sophisticated Analytical Instrumentation Laboratory (SAIF), Panjab University Chandigarh launched the prestigious DST-STUTI Program on Tuesday, February 22, 2022. Prof. Ganga Ram Chaudhary, Coordinator STUTI Program PU commenced the function with his welcome address where he told that this program comprises of funding of 2.5 crores and is aimed to build human resources and their capacity by providing open access to science and technology infrastructure. Under this program, 14 Awareness Programs for Class XI-XII Science students are being organized during science week i.e. during February 22-28, 2022 to celebrate AZADI KA AMRIT MAHOTSAV. As the program will work on a hub and spoke model. As a hub Panjab University will be organizing 3 Awareness Programs i.e.  on 22, 23 and 28th February, 2022  and 11 Awareness Programs will be organized by spokes of STUTI Program PU including GNDU Amritsar, PAU Ludhiana, NIT Srinagar, University of Kashmir, HPU MLSM College Sundernagar, GJUST Hisar, DCRUST Murthal, Punjabi university DAV college Abohar, IFS College of Pharmacy Moga, Shoolini University Solan, INST Mohali etc.  More than 1500 students from various schools will participate in STUTI awareness program of Panjab University Hub and spokes during science week.

On February 22, 2022, the event was inaugurated by Prof. Raj Kumar, VC, PU where he also launched STUTI Web Portal. Prof. Raj Kumar, VC, PU encouraged the students to explore the opportunities they are getting to get aware about the recent developments in science and technology through the lab visits to state-of-the-art instrumentation facilities.  Prof. R.K. Sinha, VC, Gautam Budhha University, Greater Noida was present as Chief guest of the event who delivered a plenary address on ‘Popularization of Science and technology’. Prof. RK Sinha, in his address, talked about the ever-evolving aspect of science and motivated the student to keep up their inquisitiveness even in the simplest of facts while studying from text books. In the first Awareness Program, 100 students of XI and XII science stream from Sri Guru Gobind Singh Sr. Sec. School, Sector 35 B, Chandigarh participated in various activities like quizzes, declamation, poster making competition etc. A popular lecture on ‘Fascinating facts of chemistry’ was delivered by Prof. KK Bhasin, NASI-Platinum Jubilee fellow and Emeritus Professor, PU. Prof. Ramesh Sharma, Program Coordinator Awareness Program, congratulated the principal, Mrs. Parminder Jit Mann, the staff and students of the Sri Guru Gobind Singh Sr. Sec. School for attending the Awareness Program. The event was enthusiastically attended by the students who were highly mesmerize motivated to interact with senior scientist, Prof. KK Bhasin and learn about the high end research facilities during the lab tours. Participants and winners of Quiz and Poster competition were awarded with prizes and certificates. On the same day, STUTI team also visited Ankur School, Sector 14 to interact with students for popularization and promotion of science and technology.

Launch of web portal by Panjab University Alumni Association

Panjab University Alumni Association released the dynamic webportal which was a long pending demand of Alumni. The significant feature of this webportal is online   web portal registration,  integration with   famous social platforms like Twitter and Facebook. It also host section of mentoring in Career Development of young alumni. It will also increase ranking of PU in NAAC as premier education Institute in term reach, enrollment and social perception.

One Day Capacity Building Program for Security Guards of Panjab University

Centre for Police Administration in collaboration with Department of Defence And National Security Studies and Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC), Panjab University organized one day Capacity Building Program for Security Guards of Panjab University on 22nd February 2022 in the seminar hall of Centre for Police Administration, Panjab University.

Prof. Anil Monga, Chairperson, Centre for Police Administration and Coordinator of the program, while welcoming the participants underlined the importance of the role of the security staff in building good perception of the University. He further sensitized the security guards to maintain their good conduct and behavior and keep themselves physically fit and mentally alert to perform their job effectively.

Prof. Deepti Gupta, Dean International Students, Panjab University, interacted with the participants and highlighted the significance of non-verbal communication in professional interaction. The session included role play and counseling of the participants.

Dr. Jaswinder Kaur, Yoga Expert and Panjab University alumna conducted two sessions, one each on yoga and meditation and asked the participants to make yoga and meditation as part of their daily routine. She shared with the security guards simple breathing and other exercises to relieve their stress. The speaker also gave demonstration of various ‘asanas’.

Webinar at GH-6 on Importance of Mother Language in Development of India

Girls Hostel No. 6, Mother Teresa Hall, P.U., Chd. today organized a webinar on the eve of International Mother Language day on the topic ‘Importance of Mother Language in Development of India’ under the guidance of Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, P.U., Chd. and supervision of Prof. Jagtar Singh, DSW, Prof. Meena Sharma, DSW(W) and Prof. Ashok Kumar, Associate DSW, P.U., Chd. Prof. Meena Sharma, DSW(W), introduced and welcomed the Chief Guest and the speaker.

Chief Guest on the occasion was Prof. S.K. Tomar, DUI, P.U.,Chd. Dr. Deepak Koirala, Principal, Hemchandracharya Sanskrit Pathshala, Sabarmati, Ahmedabad was the main speaker on this occasion.

Prof. S.K. Tomar, DUI, told that intelligence scale of any person depends upon his/her language. He also told about the importance of mother language for development of India. Development of a nation, village and family depends upon the development of a person. Language and maths is important to make any person educated.

Dr. Deepak Koirala started his speech with a Sanskrit Shalok. He told that the normal procedure from the womb of mother to death bed is called education in our country. He told that mother is more importance than an educator. He further told about importance and scientific value of Gurukuls. He said that the countries which has education in their mother language has developed more than others.
