36th National conference of IATLIS ORGANISED BY DLIS, PU

Chandigarh December 17, 2020

Department of Library and Information Science(DLIS), Panjab University, Chandigarh is organizing 36th National conference of Indian Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science (IATLIS) in online mode during 17th –18th December, 2020 so to reach out to LIS students, research scholars and the professional colleagues to enhance their professional knowledge and update them in the Library and Information Science field.

In the inauguration ceremony of the conference, Prof Preeti Mahajan, Chairperson , welcomed the guests and the participants. Prof. I.V.Malhan, President IATLIS gave an introduction and brief history of IATLIS. Prof. Jagtar Singh, Director Partnership and collaborations, IATLIS introduced the participants with the theme of the conference.

Prof. Bhaskar Makherji, Head, Department of Library and Information Science, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi delivered the key note address and highlighted as to what should be done to improve our knowledge skills.

 Dr. D.V.Singh, Former University Librarian, University of Delhi, Delhi  was the Guest of Honour, who talked of Impact of COVID on libraries and LIS education.

Prof. B.K.Kuthiala, Chairperson, Haryana Higher Education Council was the Chief Guest. While thanking the IATLIS and DLIS for inviting him to the inaugural session, he expressed his positive views and perception towards the LIS profession while narrating various incidents in his life as a beneficiary of the friendly library services. He mentioned that the LIS teachers have the great responsibility as they educate and train the future LIS professionals. He was impressed by the talks of the previous speakers. He gave examples from the ancient Vedas to elucidate his thoughts. He was of the firm view that the participants will get an opportunity to learn new knowledge and emerging technologies from the two days deliberations. He also emphasized upon the role of technology to be played in teaching and learning in general and LIS education in particular in the aftermath of Covid-19 while everyone is adjusting to the new normal.

 Prof. H.P.S.Kalra, General Secretary, IATLIS proposed the vote of thanks. More than 100 participants from different parts of the country and abroad participated in the conference.

Sector-1 College exhibits products made by Special children

‘Purnoor’ Korel, Panchkula – December 16,2020:

To encourage the efforts of special children with autism, cerebral palsy and mental retardation, an exhibition was organised in the Government PG College of Sector-1 in association with SOREM (Special school for children with autism, CP and MR Chandigarh).

Director General, Higher Education, Mr. Ajit Bala ji Joshi inaugurated the event as Chief guest.Principal of the college, Dr. Archana Mishra welcomed the Chief guest.

DGHE, Mr. Joshi appreciated the tiny efforts of Special students of SOREM. In his address, he said that special children can flourish in the society if they get appropriate environment and education. The special chilldren have to be given a place in the society among mainstream people, he said.

Products like candles, gift bags wrapping sheets kitchen masala paper bags embroidered pouches etc, made by special children were exhibited this event.

Mrs Sangeeta Jain,Vice Principal, SOREM said that sale of the products made by students instills confidence among them of their value to society. Director, technical education, Krishan Kataria was also present during the event.
Staff of the College purchased the products exhibited by special children to encourage them.

कन्या बाल पुरस्कार के लिए आवेदन मांगे- उपायुक्त

पंचकूला  15 दिसम्बर:

महिला एवं बाल विकास विभाग द्वारा सामाजिक क्षेत्र में सराहनीय कार्य करने वाली 18 साल से कम आयु की लड़कियों को राष्ट्रीय कन्या बाल पुरस्कार से सम्मानित करने के लिए 20 दिसम्बर तक आवेदन मांगे हैं।

उपायुक्त मुकेश कुमार आहूजा ने इस बारे जानकारी देते हुए बताया कि जिला की ऐसी लड़कियां जिन्होंने शिक्षा, स्वास्थ्य, पौधारोपण आदि क्षेत्रों में सराहनीय कार्य किया हो। इसके अलावा मीडिया एवं लिटरेचर के क्षेत्र में भी अग्रणीय कार्य करने वाली लड़कियों को सम्मानित किया जाएगा। उन्होंने बताया कि सामाजिक क्षेत्र में उत्कृष्ट कार्य करने वाली एवं उदाहरण प्रस्तुत करने लड़कियों को राष्ट्रीय कन्या बाल दिवस समारोह पर सम्मानित किया जाएगा। इसलिए इन क्षेत्रों में सराहनीय कार्य करने वाली जिला लड़कियां निर्धारित तिथि तक अपनी उपलब्धियों सहित बायोडाटा न्यू मिनी सचिवालय स्थित जिला कार्यक्रम अधिकारी महिला एवं बाल विकास विभाग के कार्यालय में जमा करवा दें।

उपायुक्त ने बताया कि इच्छुक लड़कियां विभागीय मेल popkl.wcd@gmail.com   पर भी अपलोड कर सकती है। निर्धारित तिथि तक आने वाल आवेदनों को जिला स्तरीय कमेटी की सिफारिश पर हरियाणा सरकार को भेजा जाएगा।

नवोदय विद्यालय में दाखिले की अंतिम तिथि बढाई-उपायुक्त

उपायुक्त एवं नवोदय विद्यालय के चेयरमेन मुकेश कुमार आहूजा ने बताया कि  नवोदय विद्यालय में छठी व नौंवी कक्षा में प्रवेश एवं चयन परीक्षा के लिये आवेदन भरें जा रहे है। जवाहर नवोदय विद्यालय में प्रवेश के लिये आवेदन आॅन लाईन ही किये जा सकते है। क्लास छटी में दाखिला लेने के लिए आॅन लाईन आवेदन भरने की तिथि 15 दिसम्बर से बढ़ाकर 29 दिसम्बर कर दी गई है। इसके अलावा नवमी कक्षा में प्रवेश लेने के लिये  31.12.20 तक आवेदन कर सकते है आॅन लाईन आवेदन के लिये आवेदन विभाग की वेबसाईट navodaya.gov.in अथवा navodaya.gov.in/nvs/en/admission-jnvst/jnvt-class  पर जाकर भरें जा सकते है। अधिक जानकारी के लिये स्कूल के नंबर 01734-258450 पर संपर्क किया जा सकता है। प्रवेश संबंधी किसी प्रकार की जानकारी हेतू विभाग की वेबसाईट और जवाहर नवोदय विद्यालय में संपर्क कर सकते है।

जवाहर नवोदय विद्यालय की प्रंसीपल संजु जोशी ने बताया कि मानव संसाधन विकास मंत्रालय, उच्च शिक्षा विभाग एवं भारत सरकार ने जवाहर नवोदय विद्यालयों का आरम्भ गांव के बच्चों की शिक्षा में सुधार को लेकर इनकी शुरूआत की। मानव संसाधन विकास मंत्रालय, उच्च शिक्षा विभाग एवं भारत सरकार का एक स्वायत्त संगठन हैं।

Self Evaluation is the Need of the Hour- Mukul Kanitkar

Knowledge cannot percolate and sustain by rod learning and there is a dire need that today’s knowledge and examination system should be such that it should prepare students for creativity and originality and emphasised on the continues evaluation of one’s personality and assessment of knowledge, said Shri Mukul Kanitkar, while speaking Eminent Scholar and Academic Activist on the topic ‘The Examination System’ during online lecture organized by Publication Bureau Panjab University, Chandigarh.

He further added that in human life nothing is undoable and we should not only  take the phenomenon of all examinations of life in calm and composed manner, but also face the all challenges boldly by developing self-confidence, self-discipline and  preparing ourselves to compete with attributes and achievements of the our own.

On the occasion, there was a book release of the Punjabi Version of Mukul Kanitkar’s book entitled Hasde Hasde Parikhiya Deo by Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, PU. The book was translated by Prof. Uma Sethi, School of Punjabi Studies which is published by Publication Bureau of the University.

PU VC  apprised the theme of the lecture and talked about the scholarly personality of the speaker. He also appreciated efforts of the Publication Bureau for publishing the works of the scholar of other walks of life along with University teachers.

Earlier, Prof. Devinder Singh, Dept. of Laws gave brief introduction about the achievements of Shri Mukul Kanitkar.

Those present included Professor Anju Suri, Dean International Students, Prof. Sukhbir Kaur, Dean Student Welfare(W), Dr Parminder Duggal, Principal Ankur School. Professor Gurpal Singh Sandhu gave the vote of thanks.

Vivek Atray to head Chandigarh Chapter of PRCI

PRCI to setup Young Communicators Club in the universities in the region: Vivek Atray

Chandigarh Chapter of Public Relations Council of India elected Mr Vivek Atray, former IAS officer, motivational speaker, and author, has been elected as Chairman for 2020-21. 

Vivek Atray who had been engaged with the Chapter of PRCI since 2010 said that there is a greater need for every organisation to deploy effective communication for its survival, growth, and success. 

With extensive senior resource persons available in the city, the Chapter would not only organise professional training programmes for the corporate and public sector but would also be establishing Young Communicator Clubs (YCC) in various Universities to prepare the youth for the challenges of life. 

Public Relations Council of India is the national apex body of public relations practitioners, communicators, academicians, and media personalities with 34 chapters across India and chapters in Dubai, Sri Lanka,Bangladesh ,Nepal and Bhutan.. 
Other office bearers of the Chapter include Vice Chairman Prof Jayanth Pethkar from School of Communication Studies, PU; Secretary Sudeep Rawat, PR consultant; Joint Secretary Gurmeet Singh Khaira, PRO, DIPR Punjab; Pavittar Singh, Director PIB. The executive members include Amit Roy, Aditya Sharma, Ritu Nag, Lalit Sharma, Shikha Nehra and Arun Jauhar.

Jatinder Vij shall be National Council representative and Aneesh Bhanot the Zonal Representative of the Chapter. 

National Vice President , CJ Singh, and the North Zone Chairperson of PRCI, Renuka B Salwan shall be the Advisors to the Chapter. 

Last date for receipt of admission form for Ph.D./M.Phil courses has been extended to 28.12.2020

            The last date for receipt of admission form for Ph.D./M.Phil  courses  for the session 2020-2021 at University Business School, Panjab University has been extended to 28.12.2020, as permitted by Prof R K Singla, Dean of University Instruction.

 University Business School, Panjab University Chandigarh, again invites applications for admission to Ph.D. programme, for academic session 2020-2021, from following types of candidates who have qualified the UGC (NET) /JRF/ SLET etc. examination with Fellowship/Scholarship and Direct awardees of fellowship for pursuing Ph.D. and working permanent teachers of Panjab University and affiliated college examination with Fellowship/Scholarship. Positive Mental Health discussed at PU

To spread  awareness about the need for positive mental health in times of Covid-19 pandemic, Panjab University  has launched  a series of lectures by eminent psychologists, according to Prof Seema Vinayak, Chairperson of Psychology Department and in-charge mental health under National Flagship Programme.

As part of this initiative, Professor Indranee Phookan Borooah of Gauhati University addressed a national webinar on impact of adverse childhood experiences on mental health in which she emphasized on  its long-term effects that  can range from physical, emotional, or sexual abuse, to divorce of parents, or captivity of caregiver. “It can affect the biomedical health of the individual, illicit drug use, stability of relationships, performance at work” she added. A trauma-informed school system  and caretaker’s training can help children to overcome their problems and achieve certain milestones.

JAC to hold Protest against the Bank’s Possession of Aman Bhalla Engineering College at Pathankot on 5 December

The Joint Association of Colleges condemned the action of forcible possession of former Minister Raman Bhalla’s Engineering College

Mohali 4 December :

A meeting was held today in which about 1650 colleges of Punjab met through video conferencing & a protest was announced at Aman Bhalla Engineering College at Pathankot on 5 December against forceful possession.

Dr. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal, Chairman, JAC and S. Jagjit Singh, President, JAC said that the government should ensure that the possession of the colleges whose Post Matric Scholarship is still due, should not be given to banks. The Punjab Government must release the scholarship amount to SC students and unaided colleges so that a good environment for education can be created.

 Dr. Anshu Kataria, Co-Chairman, JAC said that on one hand around Rs 7 crores of Aman Bhalla Engineering College is still due from Government of Punjab under the Post Matric Scholarship Scheme but on the other hand the bank has taken over the assets of 25-30 crores of the college. While giving more information to media he said that the College is liable only for 1.70 crore loan amount of The Hindu Cooperative bank.

Charanjit Singh Walia and Manjit Singh, Patron JAC said that from last 4 years, 1650 unaided colleges in Punjab have been struggling to get release Rs 1850 crore, while due to nonpayment of loan government & private banks are taking over the possession of various colleges.

In this Protest around 13 associations from Punjab including  S. Charanjit Singh Walia, President, Nursing Association; S. Manjit Singh, Vice President, Punjab Unaided Technical Institutions Association; Dr. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal, President, JAC, S. Jagjit Singh, B.Ed Federation; S. Nirmal Singh, ETT Federation; S. Jasnik  Singh, B.Ed Association, Punjabi University Patiala; Dr. Satvinder Sandhu, B.Ed Association, GNDU; Mr. Vipin Sharma, Federation of Punjab Unaided Institutions; S. Sukhmander Singh Chattha, Punjab Unaided Degree Colleges Association; Mr. Shimanshu Gupta, ITI Association; Sardar Rajinder Singh Dhanoa, Polytechnic Association etc. would  participate.

It is to mention that The Hindu Cooperative Bank took over possession of Aman Bhalla Engineering College on December 2, 2020 due to non-payment of loan.
