PU Dy Librarian Awarded with “University Librarian of the year 2021”

Dr. Neeraj Kumar Singh, Deputy Librarian, A C Joshi Library, Panjab University, Chandigarh was awarded the prestigious “University Librarian of the year 2021” award  by Madhya Pradesh Library Association at a function organised at Madhya Pradesh Council of Science and Technology, Bhopal on 14 Dec 2021.  

The award was given in recognition of Dr. Neeraj Kumar Singh’s professional excellence and outstanding contribution in the application of IT in the field of library services. This award was presented by Shri Om Prakash Sakhlecha , Minister of Science &  Technology, MSME, Govt. of Madhya Pradesh ,in the presence of Dr. Anil Kothari, DG, MPCOST Bhopal, Dr. Pushpendra Pal Singh, OSD, Madhya Pradesh Madhyam, Govt. of M.P., Prof K.G Suresh, Vice-Chancellor, Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism & Communication, Bhopal, Dr. Prabhat Pandey, President, MPLA and Dr. Sandeep Pathak, Deputy Librarian, IISER Bhopal. 

Dr. Neeraj has been serving in Panjab University for the last 15 years and has contributed towards the institution by developing many portals such as the chemistry portal, portal to handle hazardous materials, IRINS, etc. and has played a vital role in the digitisation of theses and university records. He has been a Commonwealth Fellow twice in the years 2012 and 2017 at the University of East London, London, UK. His undisputed expertise in IT has benefitted not only Panjab University but also many other libraries in the northern region.

International Webinar on Gender Research at PU

Chandigarh December 15, 2021

            The Department of Sociology in collaboration with Population Research Center, Panjab University, Chandigarh  organized an international webinar on Importance of Field Work in Gender Research by Dr Sharada Srinivasan , Associate Professor and Canada Research Chair in Gender, Justice and Development , Department of Sociology and Anthropology , University of Guelph ,Ontario ,Canada.

            Dr Sharada in her insightful lecture explained the importance of field work in the context of existing gender inequalities which can be dealt with by focusing  on voices of the marginalized women to make the research more impactful. She also highlighted through illustrations the ethics of field work such as informed consent , respectful and inclusive research, avoidance of data mining etc . She wonderfully articulated the significance of having both , that is , a mix of in- person and virtual data collection in difficult pandemic times.

            Professor Rani Mehta, Chairperson, Department of Sociology, introduced  Dr Sharada, and acknowledged the sincere efforts made by her to connect India with other countries through CIRCLE (Canada India Research Center for Learning and Engagement ) which engages in exchange of knowledge between Canadian and Indian scholars on complex and emerging topics.

            Earlier, Prof Kumool Abbi, Director, PRC welcomed Professor S Tomar, Dean Research and Dean Student Welfare, PU  who gave the inaugural address by focusing on the significance of gender research in the contemporary society especially during the Pandemic . He emphasized on the various issues of gender discrimination , gender identity, the problems of transgenders etc which need to be brought out through innovative gender research.

            The webinar was well attended by participants  from across India. 

6th Prof. B.M. Anand Memorial Lecture at PU

Chandigarh December 15, 2021

          The 6th Prof. B.M. Anand Memorial Lecture organized in online mode by Department of Physics, Panjab University, Chandigarh. Prof. S. Ramakrishnan, Director Tata Institute of Fundamental research (TIFR) Mumbai delivered a talk on “Achieving ultra-low temperatures and Physics at those temperatures”. Prof. Ramakrishnan started with the history of the low temperature physics, how to achieve low temperature and how to measure such low temperature. He described the superconductivity phenomena and discussed about the various elements in the periodic table which shows superconductivity behavior. Later he discussed the physics at low temperature and shown some of the devices built In India to achieve low temperature and finally gave future physics prospect with low temperature physics.

          Prof. M.M. Gupta, Professor Emeritus Panjab University presided the seminar.

          Around 200 participants attended the online programme.

Awareness session on Type 1 Diabetes at PU

Chandigarh December 15, 2021

            N.S.S. Dr. HSJ Dental College and Hospital and Rotaract Club HSJ Dental College in collaboration with The Diabesties Foundation and DATRI organized a joint awareness session on Type 1 Diabetes awareness and Stem Cell Donation Awareness at Dr. Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences and Hospital.

            The seminar was attended by over 150 NSS volunteers and rotaractors. The event was organized under the guidance of NSS Programme Officer, Dr. Vivek Kapoor.  Rotaract President Himank Mehta encouraged the students to get themselves registered for stem cell donation.

PU Student is Miss Universe 2021

It is a moment of great pride for Panjab University that the student of its affiliated college, PGGCG 42, Chandigarh Ms. Harnaaz Sandhu, an actor/model has been crowned Miss Universe 2021 beating contestants from 79 countries to bring home the title after 21 years.

She has done her graduation in IT from the College and presently pursuing MA in Public Administration. Her achievements include Miss Fresh Face in 2017, Miss India World -2020 among Top 20 finalists, Miss India Universe, Times Fresh Face 2017 Miss Chandigarh-winner and Represented Chandigarh at National Level in Bombay, Miss Max Emerging Star 2018, Finalist from Chandigarh in Miss Diva India 2018, Lead Role Heroin in Punjabi Featured Movie releasing this summer, Fabb Colours Femina Miss India Punjab 2019  and college has  bestowed her Miss Diva title  in 2019.

Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, PU extended his heartiest felicitations on this great achievement of Harnaaz Sandhu which has brought laurels to not only Panjab University, but to the entire nation. She can be a role model and an inspiration for students aspiring to reach such heights in their careers.

GH-8, PU celebrated International Anti-Corruption Day

Girls Hostel No.8 Florence nightingale has organized a special lecture to commemorate “International Anti-Corruption Day” for the staff and the residents of the hostel.

 Sh. Manoj Kumar, IPS ,S.P. Vigilance, UT Chandigarh emphasised on the cyber and legal aspects of corruption very nicely to students. Students interacted with him and he answered many questions of students 

Prof. Rattan Singh, Chief Vigilance Officer, Panjab University was guest of honor in the function. 

Dr Simran Kaur warden GH-8 welcomed the guests and introduced the distinguished guests to the audience. 

Prof. Meena Sharma, DSW (W) introduced the theme to the audience. Associate DSW Professor Ashok Kumar and warden of other hostels were also present in the function.

–डीसीपी पचंकूला नें गर्वमैन्ट गर्लस कॉलेज महिला सुरक्षा का दिया सन्देश ।

पुलिस प्रवक्ता नें जानकारी देतें हुए बताया कि आज दिनांक 09 दिसम्बर 2021 को गर्वमैन्ट गर्लस पी.जी कॉलेज, सैक्टर- 14, पंचकूला में आयोजित 14 वां, एनुअल एथलिट मीट कार्यक्रम आयोजित किया गया । जिसमें डीसीपी पंचकूला श्री मोहित हांडा नें बतौर चीफ गैस्ट शिरकत की ।  गर्वमैन्ट कॉलेज की प्रिसीपल श्रीमति बबीता वर्मा नें डीसीपी पंचकूला का स्वागत किया ।

इस कार्यक्रम में 100 मीटर रेस, 400 रिलें रेस, जैवलिन थ्रो, हाई व लांग जम्प इत्यादि खेलकूद करवाया गया इसकें अलावा कार्यक्रम में योगा, गीदा, फैन्सी ड्रैस प्रतियोगिता करवाई गई है जिसमें कॉलेज के टींचिग व नान टींचिग स्टाफ सहित कॉलेज की छात्राओ नें बढचढ कर भाग लिया ।

प्रतियोगिताओ में प्रथम, द्वितिय तथा तीसरें स्थान पर आनें वालें सभी प्रतिभागियो को डीसीपी पंचकूला के द्वारा सम्मानित किया ।

इस कार्यक्रम के दौरान डीसीपी पंचकूला नें अपनें शब्दो में कहा कि जब भी हम किसी प्रतियोगिता में भाग लेतें है तो हार हो या जीत लेकिन सीखनें को बहुत मिलता है जैसें लीडरशीप के रुप में कार्य करना और टीम के साथ कार्य करना जिससें हमारें व्यक्तितत्व का निर्माण होता जो आगें हमारी जिन्दगी में काम आता है ।

इसके साथ ही डीसीपी पंचकूला नें कॉलेज कें स्टाफ व छात्राओ को सम्बोधित करतें हुए कहा कि हरियाणा पुलिस महिलाओ की हिफाजत व सुरक्षा के लिए सदैव कार्यरत है । उन्होनें “दुर्गा शक्ति “ एप के बारें में बताया व सभी छात्राओ को “दुर्गा शक्ति “ एप डाऊनलोड करनें बारें प्रेरित किया जिससें एप के माध्यम सें महिला को किसी भी प्रकार की कोई समस्या हो तो वह एक बटन के प्रैस सें दुर्गा शक्ति की टीम आपकी सहायता के लिए कुछ ही पल में आपकी हिफाजत के लिए तैयार होगी ।

UIPS Professor bags Mid-Career faculty award of UGC

Prof Ranju Bansal of University Institute of pharmaceutical Sciences, Panjab University has been bestowed with Mid-career award by UGC, India with a  grant of Rs. 10.00 lakhs  under this scheme

Mid-Career Award aims to augment the research efforts of active mid-career faculty members and support them with the research incentive. . She will be working on ‘Repurposing steroidal drugs as possible agents against neurodegenerative disorders using virtual screening and experimental techniques’ in this project.

 Dr Ranju Bansal is an active researcher and is actively engaged in drug discovery research for cancer therapy and neurodegenerative disorders. She has published her research work in high profile journals and has supervised more than fifteen doctoral students. Her work on anticancer and neuroprotective heterosteroids has been widely appreciated. 

Cleanliness Drive at PU , Dental College

chandigarh :

The NSS of Panjab University, Chandigarh in collaboration with Rotract Club, HSJ Dental College ,Panjab University organized “CLEANLINESS DRIVE” at Administrative Block on 7th Dec. The NSS Volunteers actively participated and cleaned the area around the administrative block.  Dr. Anuj Kumar, NSS Programme Officer said that such events encourages the spirit of the students towards their nation. Dr. Shivani Sharma, Coordinator, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan encouraged the students participation in the cleanliness drive. The drive was successful under the coordination of  Dr.Vivek Kapoor.
