The students and staff members of Girls Hostel No. 8, Florence nightingale, Panjab University Chandigarh celebrated the 22nd anniversary of Kargil Vijay Divas, to honor the Kargil war heroes, informed Dr. Simran Kaur, Warden.
Prof. Ashok Kumar, Associate Dean Student Welfare motivated the students and staff by informing the relevance of the day that the war of Kargil is considered to be an important turning point in the modern history of India. It is the most recent example of high altitude warfare in mountainous terrain.
The entire staff along with the students also paid homage to the soldiers of Kargil by lighting candles and pledged that they would never hesitate to sacrifice their lives whenever there would be a call from the nation.
Boys Hostel No. 7, Panjab University, Chandigarh also celebrated the Kargil Vijay Divas. Warden of the Hostel, Dr. Arun Singh Thakur, Warden informed that all the staff members, officials offered their salutations for the soldiers who protected the nation. The sacrifices of the soldiers were also remembered. Slogans were raised for the nation along with one minute silence was observed for all the soldiers.
The students and staff members of Girls Hostel No. 1 observed the Kargil Vijay Divas by paying homage to the soldiers of Kargil by lighting candles and saluting their sacrifices, informed Dr. Anju Goyal, Warden.

The Department of Defence and National Security Studies in collaboration with National Cadet Corps, Panjab University (PU), organised a webinar on the theme “Kargil War and the Lessons Learnt” to commemorate the 22nd Kargil Vijay Diwas.
Brig. MPS Bajwa, YSM (retd.) was the key speaker for the event. A war veteran of Kargil War, he commanded the 192 Mountain Brigade. He was instrumental in final victory of Kargil War and the capture of Tiger Hill. The speaker was formally welcomed and introduced by Professor Rakesh Datta, a senior Professor in the Department.
Brig Bajwa while delivering his talk shared his experiences of the Kargil war, while remembering the bravery and sacrifice of all the soldiers who had fought in the war and praised their grit and determination during the capture of Tiger Hill. He discussed about the professionalism of Indian Army vis-a vis Pakistan Army as Indian Army don’t do different things but do thing differently. He also mentioned about the gallantry award given to Pakistan Capt. Karnal Sher Khan due to the citation given by him.
Brig Bajwa highlighted the three important lessons learnt from the war wherein the role of intelligence, strong line of communication, and new technologies has a significant role to play. He praised the role of media during the war but highlighted the use at right time to avoid disseminating real time information to enemy that can change the course of war.
He also put forward the salience of pro-active approach in tactical and strategic level. The speaker answered the queries of the participants and motivated the audience to join the armed forces.
Thos present included Dr Kuldeep Singh, in-charge of NCC, a former Chairperson of Department of Police administration, faculty members of the department, serving and retired defence personals, research scholars and students of department, NCC cadets of Panjab University.

The first lecture in the series of lectures titled “75 Years of India’s Independence: Cultural Refractions” launched under the banner of honourable Prime Minister’s Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav was delivered online today in the Department of English and Cultural Studies, Panjab University Chandigarh.
Prof. Subarno Chattarji from the University of Delhi shared absorbing reflections on “English Studies in India”. He discussed India’s pursuit of global standards of excellence in the English language that is hampered due to poor infrastructure, teacher variability, and the influence of free-market ideology resulting in the massification of higher education. More cheerfully, he highlighted the importance of incorporating student feedback in teaching English language and literature by sharing insights from a survey of 600 students studying English across universities in Delhi-NCR. Commenting on the future of English studies in India, Prof. Chattarji remarked that standards of excellence must be clearly defined and should encourage critical thinking.
Prof. Akshaya Kumar, Chairperson of the Department of English and Cultural Studies, Panjab University while introducing the distinguished speaker, also spoke about the design and mandate of lecture series. He informed that the series shall dwell largely on the debates and intellectual engagements that department of languages in India have been witness to.
The lecture was attended by postgraduate students, research scholars, and faculty members from various universities who also engaged in a lively question-answer session with the speaker. Prof. Meenu Gupta gave formal vote of thanks.

भारतीय संस्कृति में गुरु का बहुत महत्व है और आषाढ़ महीने की पूर्णिमा को गुरु के लिए ही समर्पित किया गया है। इस पूर्णिमा को गुरु पूर्णिमा कहते हैं। इस दिन गुरुओं की पूजा-सम्मान किया जाता है और उनका आशीर्वाद लिया जाता है। दुनिया में मां के बाद गुरु को ही सबसे ऊंचा स्थान दिया गया है। इस बार 23 जुलाई को गुरु पूर्णिमा का पर्व मनाया जाएगा। महाभारत के रचयिता महर्षि व्यास का जन्म भी आषाढ़ महीने की पूर्णिमा के दिन ही हुआ था इसलिए इसे व्यास पूर्णिमा भी कहते हैं। महर्षि वेद व्यास ने ही मानव जाति को वेदों का ज्ञान दिया है और उन्हें आदिगुरु माना जाता है।

हिन्दू धर्म में कुल पुराणों की संख्या 18 है और इन सभी पुराणों के रचियता महर्षि वेदव्यास को ही माना जाता है। गुरु पूर्णिमा के दिन जो भी व्यक्ति विधि विधान के साथ पूजा-अर्चना करता है तो उसे शुभ फल की प्राप्ति होती है। इस खास दिन प्रीति और आयुष्मान योग में किए गए कार्यों में सफलता हासिल होती है। चलिए जानते हैं 24 जुलाई को गुरु पूर्णिमा का शुभ मुहूर्त और उस दिन पड़ने वाले योग के बारे में.
पूर्णिमा तिथि 23 जुलाई 2021 दिन शुक्रवार की सुबह 10ः43 बजे से प्रारंभ होकर 24 जुलाई 2021 दिन शनिवार की सुबह 08ः06 बजे तक रहेगी। इस तिथि पर अगर बनने वाले योग के बारे में बात करें तो इस साल गुरु पूर्णिमा पर विष्कुंभ योग बन रहा है, जो सुबह 06ः12 बजे तक रहेगा। इसके बाद 25 जुलाई की सुबह 03ः16 बजे तक प्रीति योग रहेगा और तत्पश्चात आयुष्मान योग लगेगा। ज्योतिषशास्त्र के अनुसार इस बार प्रीति योग और आयुष्मान योग का एक साथ बनना शुभ माना जा रहा है। प्रीति और आयुष्मान योग में किए गए कार्य सफल होते हैं। विष्कुंभ योग को वैदिक ज्योतिष में शुभ योगों में नहीं गिना जाता है। इसलिए यह अशुभ होता है।
गुरु पूर्णिमा पर ऐसे करें पूजा
अगर आप गूरू पूर्णिमा पर विधि विधान के साथ पूजा कर लाभ अर्जित करना चाहते हैं तो इसके लिए आपके पास पान के पत्ते, पानी वाले नारियल, मोदक, कर्पूर, लौंग, इलायची होना चाहिए इनके साथ पूजन करने से मनोवांछित फल की प्राप्ति होती है। ऐसी पूजा करने से सौ वाजस्नीय यज्ञ के समान फल मिलता है।
हिन्दू धर्म में पूर्णिमा का विशेष दिन माना जाता है ऐसा कहा जाता है कि अगर आप इस दिन गंगा में स्नान करते हैं तो इससे आप स्वस्थ्य और आयुवर्द्धक होते हैं। त्वचा रोग और दमा में बहुत लाभ मिलता है। इसलिए ऐसे मौके का लाभ उठाएं। इसके अलावा अगर कोविड-19 का संक्रमण देखें तो आप इसका लाभ घर में भी उठा सकते हैं। इसके लिए आप अपने नहाने युक्त जल में थोड़ा सा गंगा जल मिला लें। यह भी उतना ही फलदायी है जितना की गंगा जी में स्नान करना।
याज्ञवल्य ऋषि के वरदान से वृक्षराज को जीवनदान मिला था। इसलिए गुरु पूर्णिमा पर बरगद की भी पूजा की जाती है। इसके अलावा अगर आप गुरु पूर्णिमा की रात खीर बनाकर दान करते हैं तो इससे मानसिक शांति मिलती है। चंद्र ग्रह का प्रभाव भी दूर होकर लाभप्रद होता है।

University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Panjab University, Chandigarh organised an International Webinar on “The ZNF217 oncogene is a key mediator and early indicator of metastasis in breast cancer” under UIPS Expert Talk series, today.
Professor Indu Pal Kaur, Chairperson UIPS, extended a cordial welcome and introduced the renowned speaker Professor Pascale A. Cohen who is currently a Professor in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology Faculty of Pharmacy University of Lyon, France. Professor Indu Pal Kaur and Professor Pascale A. Cohen were US Fulbright colleagues.
Chief Guest, Professor Amanjit Bal, Department of Histopathology, PGIMER, Chandigarh, sensitised the audience about the rising cases of breast cancer which has surpassed cervical cancer. She emphasised that the mechanism underlying metastasis is still unexplored and there is a dire need for more targets which can be utilised for the development of therapies.
Professor Pascale A. Cohen shared the contribution of her group, one of the leader teams in the “Zinc-Finger Protein 217 (ZNF217)” field, in deciphering ZNF217’s driven deleterious functions and biomarker value in breast cancer. Her talk focussed mainly on recent research on ZNF217-driven molecular functions in human breast cancers, revisiting major hallmarks of cancer and highlighting the ZNF217’s downstream molecular targets and signaling pathways. She apprised the audience that ZNF217 is a new indicator for the emergence of bone metastasis, and future therapies targeting ZNF217 may be beneficial for patients by preventing the development of bone metastases.
The talk was followed by an extensive Q&A session and was concluded successfully with a vote of thanks by the Chairperson Professor Indu Pal Kaur and Professor Poonam Piplani. Almost 140 participants joined the webinar and included students, researchers, UIPS and PU faculty and distinguished guests.
