PU VC visited Administrative Block and Department of Physics

Chandigarh January 28, 2022   

Prof Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University,  visited various branches in the Administrative Block of PU which included General Branch, College Branch and office of Controller of Examination. He also visited Department of Physics and its laboratories. He reviewed projects related to (Rashtriya Uchchattar Shiksha Abhiyan) RUSA. 

During his interaction, he gave instructions to keep their work area clear of all pending work and maintain files. He also advised all to strictly follow Covid-19 protocols. He also stressed on maintaining cleanliness in their work areas.

चौधरी रणबीर सिंह विश्वविद्यालय के छात्रों द्वारा मनाया गया गणतंत्र दिवस

आज दिनांक 26 जनवरी 2022 को अधिष्ठाता छात्र कल्याण चौधरी रणबीर सिंह विश्वविद्यालय द्वारा 73 वें गणतंत्र दिवस पर भव्य कार्यक्रम का आयोजन किया गया ।

विश्वविद्यालय कुलसचिव प्रोफेसर लवलीन मोहन ने सर्वप्रथम ध्वजारोहण किया। विश्वविद्यालय सुरक्षा अधिकारी होशियार सिंह के नेतृत्व में सभी प्राध्यापकों , सुरक्षाकर्मियों एवं छात्रों द्वारा राष्ट्रीय ध्वज एवम विश्वविद्यालय ध्वज को सलामी दी गई। इसके उपरांत शहीद कैप्टन पवन खटकड़ व चौधरी रणबीर सिंह की की प्रतिमा पर श्रद्धां सुमन पुष्प अर्पित करते हुए शहीदों को श्रद्धांजलि दी और नमन किया। कुलसचिव महोदया के आग्रह पर सफाई कर्मचारी श्रीमती मुकेश व श्रीमती सुदेश एवं सुरक्षा कर्मचारियों द्वारा दीप प्रज्वलन करवाया गया। इस कार्यक्रम की आयोजक अधिष्ठाता छात्र कल्याण डॉ ज्योति श्योराण ने सभी को गणतंत्र दिवस की हार्दिक शुभकामनाएं व बधाई दी। मंच का संचालन डॉ कविता दुबारा किया गया! इस पुनीत राष्ट्रीय पर्व पर प्रोफेसर लवलीन मोहन ने कहा कि आज हम भारतीय संविधान और तिरंगे का मान सम्मान व अभिमान सदैव बनाए रखने का संकल्प लें, साथ ही मातृभूमि की स्वाधीनता के लिए सर्वस्व निछावर करने वाले वीर सपूतों को याद करते हुए उन्हें नमन करें। हमारी सच्ची श्रद्धांजलि यही होगी कि हम अपना कार्य ईमानदारी से करें।

इसके उपरांत संगीत एवं नृत्य विभाग के प्राध्यापकों व छात्र-छात्राओं द्वारा देशभक्ति से ओतप्रोत भजनों की सुंदर व विशेष प्रस्तुतियां दी गई, इसके प्रतिभागी डॉ कविता ,डॉ भावना, श्री योगेश, अजय, आनंद एवं कृष्ण आदि रहे। जिसमे डॉ भावना व डॉ कविता की प्रस्तुतियां भावपूर्ण रही! ये सभी प्रस्तुतियां शहीद कैप्टन पवन खटकड़ को श्रद्धांजलि के रूप में प्रस्तुत की गई! डॉ ज्योति श्योराण दोबारा कार्यक्रम में उपस्थित सभी लोगों का धन्यवाद किया गया। कार्यक्रम का समापन प्रसाद वितरण समारोह के साथ किया गया।
इस कार्यक्रम के सफल आयोजन में डॉ कविता, डॉ भावना, डॉ कृषण, डॉ विरेंदरकुमार, कुमारी सुमन पुनिया आदि का विशेष सहयोग रहा! इस पावन अवसर पर प्रोफेसर एसके सिन्हा, डॉ जसवीर सुरा, डॉ अजमेर, डॉ नरेश देशवाल, डॉ राकेश सिंहमार, डॉ सुनील रोहिल्ला, डॉ प्रवीण गहलावत आदि शिक्षक व गैर शिक्षक स्टाफ मौजूद रहा।

PU Professor Secures 3rd position in Forensic Anthropology Research Worldwide

        Panjab University(PU), Chandigarh  Professor Dr. Kewal Krishan has brought laurels to the University, as he secured 3rd place worldwide amongst the most prolific and productive top 20 authors in forensic anthropology research.   This was revealed in a bibliometric analysis published in a UK based Elsevier Journal “Journal of Forensic and Legal Medicine”. PU has secured 4th position in forensic anthropology research amongst the world universities and institutes.

        The bibliometric analysis is based upon the total number of papers published and citations received in the field of forensic anthropology retrieved from Scopus – a major publication and citation database. Amongst the most prolific authors, the first position was secured by Dr. Cristina Cattaneo of the University of Milan, Italy and Dr. Tanuj Kanchan from Kasturba Medical College/now at AIIMS, Jodhpur, was placed second in the list. It is a proud moment for India as two of the top three most prolific researchers in forensic anthropology belongs to India.

        Dr. Kewal Krishan is Professor at Department of Anthropology at PU, who has made distinct contributions to various aspects of the human morphology and their forensic applications in Indian populations. Recently, in an analysis by the Stanford University scientists, Dr. Krishan has been listed at 17th position in the list of top 20 forensic scientists of the world. Till date, Dr. Krishan has published 274 papers in anthropology and allied fields and has more than 24,000 citations to his credit.

        Dr. Krishan said “this is due to the constant encouragement and motivation by our worthy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Raj Kumar for conducting research and international collaboration that a PU professor secured 3rd place and Panjab University got 4th rank amongst all the international institutes and universities in forensic anthropology research”.

PU announces various Golden Chance Results

Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh has announced the results of various Golden Chance examinations held in the year 2021.

PU spokesperson informed that the results of B.Sc. (Honours) Anthropology 4th Semester Examination July, 2021; B.Sc. (Medical Technology- Anesthesia & Operation Theatre Techniques) Part- III Examination November, 2021; B.Ed. Special Education (Intellectual Disability) 1st Semester Examination May, 2021; B.E. (Information Technology) 5th Semester Golden Chance Examination September, 2021; B.E. (Information Technology) 3rd Semester Golden Chance Examination September, 2021; and Bachelor of Commerce 5th Semester, August 2021, P.U. Chandigarh (Golden Chance- Semester System) have been announced.  

The results can be seen at the respective Departments/Colleges or PU website.

IAS Centre extends last date for submission of application form for Civil Services (Preliminary) Course

The Centre for IAS and Other Competitive Examinations, Panjab University(PU) has extended the last date for submission of application form for Civil Services(Preliminary) course to 28th January’ 2022. 

The course is suitable for the students, who are preparing for IAS(Preliminary) exam to be held in June’ 2022. The distinguished faculty from PU and other neighbouring Universities and Colleges having immense experience teach this course to the admitted students.

The classes for this course shall be commencing 2nd February, 2022 onwards. The admission for this batch will be on First Come, First Serve basis. The Centre runs many other courses for preparation of competitive examinations like PCS(Judicial), PCS(Executive), UGC(NET) etc. 

It may be noted that many students have achieved success in these Competitive examinations and the Centre has a good reputation of high selections including State Civil Services Examination. 

The Centre charges a nominal fee from aspirants of SC/ST category and a subsidised concessional fee from students of any other categories. The application forms are available at www.iasc.puchd.ac.in under the tab ‘Forms’ and fee detail is available under the tab ‘Admission Notices’.

PU STUDENT GETS SELECTED FOR NEWTON BHABHA PHD PLACEMENT PROGRAM

Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh student, Sahil Kumar has been selected for prestigious Newton Bhabha PhD placement program.

The Newton Bhabha PhD placement program is funded by the UK Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and Department of Biotechnology (DBT) under the Newton Bhabha Fund.

Sahil, a PhD student of Dr. S. Saravanamurugan (Scientist-F, CIAB Mohali) and Prof. Sushil Kumar Kansal of Dr. S S Bhatnagar University Institute of Chemical Engg. & Technology, PU, is registered at the department of PU Energy Research Center. 

Under the program, Sahil will visit the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow(UK) for a period of four months. He will be working on development of process for production of alkyl glycosides from mango seed shell under the guidance of Dr. Xiaolei Zhang in the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow.

‘Antarchakshu-The Eye Within’ Awareness workshop on the lives of the visually challenged

The Young Communicators Club of the School of Communication Studies, Panjab University (PU) today conducted a workshop in collaboration with Public Relations Council of India, Chandigarh Chapter.

The workshop ‘Antarchkashu- The Eye Within’, focused upon creating awareness on the lives of the visually challenged. The chief guest for the event was Mr. Vinod Chadha, Hon’ble President of the National Association for the Blind, Chandigarh & Punjab branch.

The workshop was conducted by Krishna Warrier, a consultant from Xavier’s Resource Centre for the Visually Challenged (XRCVC), St Xavier’s College, Mumbai. It was an Immersion Workshop on Disability. During the session, he simulated blindness through specific activities. This allowed the audience members to get an insight into the lives of persons with visual impairment.

The activities were followed by an interaction with Ganesh Phalke, an inspirational and motivational speaker and student who lost his eyesight at the age of 9. He narrated his journey from losing his eyesight to graduating college. The audience members got to ask him questions and express their thoughts around visual impairment.

The chief guest, Mr. Vinod Chadha also gave a keynote address and enlightened the audience with his insightful thoughts. He mentioned in his address that, “to be human, is to keep trying”.

The workshop ended with everyone expressing their wish to participate in many such interactive sessions in the future.

PU Department organized a National webinar on “Knowledge Management and Librarianship”

The Department of Library and Information Science, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh today organized a webinar on “Knowledge Management and Librarianship”.

Prof. Aditya Tripathi, from Department of Library and Information Science, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi was the Resource Person in the webinar, which was attended by about 70 participants from all over the country.

In his address, Prof. Aditya Tripathi highlighted the importance of Knowledge Management in organizations, its process, techniques for knowledge creation and hurdles. He also emphasized on the role of libraries in improving knowledge management. With the growth of the knowledge economy, the role of knowledge management in libraries will become increasingly crucial. Knowledge management in libraries should concentrate the creation of knowledge bases and knowledge exchange & sharing. Need of Knowledge management includes sharing information, decision making, access to information, economy and value addition, he added.

Prof. Tripathi also differentiated data, information, knowledge and wisdom in plain words. He stated that wisdom cannot be built with machine. He explained knowledge management with day to day activities in our life connecting with our two major epics, Ramayana and Mahabharata. He mentioned that the biggest challenge in knowledge management is to obtain and manage knowledge that resides in the minds of people of an organization. Educational institutions should develop the methods of knowledge audit.

Earlier, welcoming the speaker and participants, Chairperson of the Department, Dr. Shiv Kumar initiated the Webinar. Prof. Rupak Chakravarty, Coordinator of the Webinar, introduced the Resource Person and theme of the webinar. Dr. Khushpreet Singh Brar, Co-coordinator of the webinar, presented vote of thanks.

Director, ICAR-NBAGR, Karnal Addresses a Webinar on “Animal Genetic Resources of India”

Department of Zoology, Panjab University (PU) Chandigarh today organized a webinar on “Animal Genetic Resources of India”.

In his address, Director, ICAR-NBAGR, Karnal Dr. B.P. Mishra emphasized the need to conserve India’s mega biodiversity and protect animal genetic resources to meet the increasing food demands and to cater new disease challenges. He spotlighted how climate change is affecting our animal genetic resources and India’s preparedness to stand for it.

Dr. Mishra underpinned the activities of ICAR-NBAGR, Karnal to fulfill the national and international commitments.

The session was chaired by former Vice Chancellor Prof. R.C. Sobti. The Chairman, Department of Zoology Dr. Y.K. Rawal welcomed the guests. The session was concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. Ravneet.

National Pharmacy Teachers Training Programme Begins at PU

National Pharmacy Teachers Training Programme started at Panjab University (PU) today.

The one-week web faculty training school under the initiative of UGC Networking Resource Centre (UGC-NRC), on “New Era Technologies in Formulation Design Space” is being hosted via CiscoWebEx at the University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS.

As many as 68 selected pharma faculty and researchers from various Colleges/Universities of 21 different states of India and 1 from abroad are participating in the course.The training school intends to apprise and update the young participants among faculty and researchers on multiple forums of novel drug delivery design, development, and real time translation to plug the bench to bedside/ lab to clinic gap.

Full Professor, University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), SPAIN, Professor Maria José Alonsoinaugurated the function and delivered the key note address on “Delivery of Proteins and RNA Molecules using Nanotechnology.” She gave an overview about the work being done in her laboratory on oral ocular nasal and dermal delivery of biomolecules.

Prof. Alonso is a highly accomplished and recognised among the top 10 researchers in the World in Pharmacology (Times Higher Education international ranking, 2010) and appeared on ‘The Power List’ of most influential researchers in field of Biopharmaceuticals (The Medicine Maker, 2020-21). She has h-index of 98 and was Vice-Rector of Research and Innovation of the USC and Visiting Scientist at MIT, Cambridge, US; Univ of Angers, France; Univ of Paris XI, France and is known for her innovative industrial and entrepreneurial expertise.

Earlier, the Chairperson, UIPS and Program Coordinator, UGC-NRC and the Coordinator of the Course,Professor Indu Pal Kaur welcomed the participants and the Chief Guest, and briefed them about the achievements of UIPS and UGC-NRC programs. She also summarized about the course content to the participants. Dr Vandita Kakkar is the Joint Course Coordinator who conducted the proceedings of the event.

The day started with an ice breaking session followed by a workshop on the most sought after topic and as per the UGC-NRC concern on “How to write research proposal, research paper and related ethical issues?” By Professor Kanwaljit Chopra, Professor & Head, Pharmacology & Former Chairperson, UIPS, & Professor Anil Kumar, Professor of Pharmacology, UIPS.

The post-tea session covered an informative recorded talk by Professor Tejal A Desai, Chair & Deborah Cowan Endowed Professor, Department of Bioengineering & Therapeutic Sciences, Schools of Pharmacy and Medicine, University of California, San Francisco (UCSF); and Professor in Residence, Department of Bioengineering, UC Berkeley (UCB), USA on “Using Micro and Nanostructured Materials to Modulate the Tissue Microenvironment”.

UIPS is the first and the only Pharmacy Institute in the country selected by MHRD for creating UGC Networking Resource Centre to promote and foster research and academics in the field of Pharmaceutical Sciences by training young pharma trainers, selected across the nation.
