The Boys Hostel No. 3 celebrated its Annual Day

The Boys Hostel No. 3 celebrated its Annual Day function in the common room of BH3. On this special day, Sh. R.S. Verma, IAS, Special Secretary (Revenue and Disaster Management), Govt. of Haryana presided over the function as the Chief Guest and Sh. Ram Gopal, DSP(CID) Chandigarh Police graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. All the residents, Mess Canteen Worker & employees were also invited on this day. Professor Jagtar Singh Dean Student Welfare, Men and Prof. Rupali Garg, Dean Student Welfare, Women and Prof. Sh. Ashok Kumar, Associate Dean were also present there and graced the occasion. Common room and other places of BH3 were completely decorated with flowers. The program was inaugurated by lighting the lamp. Simultaneously, the Warden and Senior Assistant, BH3 also lit the lamp. The cultural show began with P.U. Anthem. After that, one by one, the residents of different courses performed various programs. Residents performed a beautiful group dance program and they also sang songs.  Chief Guest and Guest of Honour also gave a speech on how they prepared themselves for civil services exam and also inspired students to make careers in civil services too. Finally, the warden came on stage and thanked everyone, especially Chief Guest and, Guest of Honour and DSW Men and Women for coming to our annual day function

INTERDISCIPLINARY LECTURE SERIES

The Departments of Emerging Areas Building comprising Centre for Human Rights and Duties, University Institute of Fashion Technology and Vocational Development, Centre for Police Administration, Centre for Social Work, Department-cum-Centre for Women Studies and Development and Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension, and NCC Panjab University, Chandigarh organised an interdisciplinary lecture series on the theme “Indian Culture and Human Rights” and “Food Safety and Standards : A Public Health concern” .

Professor Raj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh welcomed the guests on a warm note, talking about their achievements and expertise. He discussed about the importance of human rights, culture and food safety measures.

Dr. Satya Narayan Sabat, IPS, Director General (Vigilance and Enforcement) U.P. Power Corporation Limited in his lecture titled “Indian Culture and Human Rights” discussed about his experiences related to the past lectures delivered by him, held at various educational institutions with respect to human rights. He began the lecture focusing on the core concept of human rights like introduction, scope and different levels of human rights. Heimbibed the students on the concepts of Maslow’s Need Hierarchy Theory, Magna Carta’ 1215, UDHR’1948 . He  further discussed the difference between the Indian and western concept of human rights andgave an insight on Dharma, Kautilya’s Arthshastra, teachings of Bhagwat Gita, Reformist movement, Bhakti movement and teachings of various Sufi saints. He concluded his lecture after mentioning the importance of UDHR and discussing its articles in a comprehensive manner.

Prof (Dr.) Sunita Mishra, Head of the Department , Food and Nutrition, Human Development and Family Studies, Dean, School of Home Science BBAU (A Central University), Lucknow in her talk titled “Food Safety and Standard: A Public Health Concern” talked about food safety. She emphasised on the advancement of nanotechnology in food safety. “Food safety issues have been the most wanted intervention in the field of nutrition all over the world”, she added. She discussed about the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 in particular. She talked about HACCP, PRP Pre Requisite Program, FSSAI, General principles of food hygiene, CODEX guidelines and NCCP. She also discussed four food quality standards which are legal standards, company or voluntary label standards, industry standards and consumer or grade standards. She further talked about basics of food safety focusing on food contamination, chemical contamination, fungal contamination and ready to consume food. WTO standards and TQM system (GPH and ISO). She talked about the food recall procedures and its authority and the commission of food safety. She explained the importance of licensing and registration of food business.

The event also showcased display of products by various student led start-ups such as Aapni Dharohar “Our Culture, Our Pride” started by Ms. Poonam and “Kalakaari” started by Manisha and Manak of UIFT. Their stalls were put up outside the seminar hall for display.

The session was also attended by faculty and students from various departments. Prof Jagtar Singh (DSW), Prof Ashok Kumar (Asst DSW),  Prof.J.S Sherawat graced the session with their presence.

Special Lecture of Foreign Visiting Faculty Geospatial Technologies and Peace

Chandigarh June 13, 2022

The presentation focuses on the Geospatial Technologies which are proliferating and are constantly in use in our daily lives in one way or the other way. It also focused on the use of Geospatial Technologies, tools such as GPS, GIS and remote sensing and their advantages and disadvantages were also discussed. The key focus of this presentation was GPS (Global Positioning Systems) technology and its use. Even though GPS was invented for the US Department of Defence, GPS is now in civilian use and is constantly also used for peaceful purposes. Location and time related services are used all over and are included in day to day uses such as ATM machines. These views were expressed by Dr. Rakesh Malhotra, Associate Professor, Department of Environmental, Earth and Geospatial Sciences, NORTH CAROLINA CENTRAL UNIVERSITY, Durham, North Carolina, USA, who is on Foreign Visiting Faculty in the Department of Gandhian and Peace Studies, PU, Chandigarh. In his expository talk, Dr. Rakesh highlighted that the Location Services, GIS Data and cameras are important but also come with drawbacks such as privacy and data storage. The all kinds of ATM machines, smart phones and smart watches, drones, missiles, navigation tools and other such gadgets are working all because of the GPS system though it’s a one-way communication but it is helping many to reach their destinations.



Dr. Manish Sharma, Chairperson, Department of Gandhian and Peace studies, welcoming the participants, highlighted that PU is consistently maintaining its leadership position in higher education and research on account of vibrant academic environment with the kind of interaction on different aspects of research with the national and international faculty, which will help in developing more global and pluralistic view of the outer world and also in developing the holistic perspective to harness skills to empathize with societal and ethical ramifications. He also highlighted that PU is making earnest efforts under the guidance of Prof Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University to ensure collaboration with different international universities. The lecture received enthusiastic response from different departments with the participation and interaction with the faculty members, students and researchers from other departments too.

The Department of Defence and National Security Studies (DDNSS) and Panjab University Institute of Social Sciences (PU-ISSER) in association with Centre for Ladakh and Jammu Kashmir Studies organized a special lecture on June 13, 2022 by Captain Alok Bansal on the theme “Internal Fault lines in Pakistan”. The lecture was organized at Gandhi Bhavan Seminar Hall, Panjab University.

Dr. Jaskaran Singh Waraich, Chairperson of the Defence and National Security Studies Department, delivered the opening remarks and introduced the theme of the lecture.  Prof. Simrit Kahlon, Director PU-ISSER chaired the event.

Capt. Bansal, currently the Director at India Foundation, is a former Indian Navy Officer, who served in the directorates of Naval Operations and Naval Intelligence. He is an expert on Geopolitics of South Asia and Pakistan in particular.

Capt. Bansal identified four major fault lines – Sectarianism, Economic Crisis, Ethno-Nationalism and Talibanization. He explained how these fault lines have aggravated over time and become a huge challenge for Pakistan’s security.

The lecture concluded with Prof. Simrit’s address. She highlighted the importance of issues brought to light by Capt. Bansal. 

The lecture was attended by the faculty, research scholars and students of the University.

विश्व पर्यावरण दिवस पर आयोजित एन.एस.एस के तीन दिवसीय विशेष कार्यक्रम का हुआ समापन

पंजाब यूनिवर्सिटी, चंडीगढ में विश्व पर्यावरण दिवस के उपलक्ष में अयोजित तीन दिवसीय विशेष कार्यक्रम का आज समापन हुआ।  इस अवसर मुख्य अतिथि के रूप में यूनिवर्सिटी स्कूल ऑफ़ ओपन लर्निंग की विभागाध्यक्ष प्रो. मधुरिमा वर्मा रही।

और विशिष्ट अतिथि के रूप में पंजाब यूनिवर्सिटी के एन.एस.एस कॉर्डिनेटर प्रो.अश्वनी कौल मौजूद रहे। कार्यक्रम में आए हुए सभी अतिथियों के द्वारा स्वयंसेवकों को पर्यावरण बचाव के प्रति सजग रहने के लिए कहा गया ताकि आने वाले।

समय के अंदर हमारा पर्यावरण पूरी तरह से सुरक्षित रह सके और विश्व स्तर पर भारत की एक विशेष पहचान बन पाए। इस अवसर पर एन.एस.एस के इतिहास के बारे सामाजिक कार्य विभाग से अमित भारद्वाज ने विस्तार से प्रकाश डाला। इस कार्यक्रम के दौरान हरगोबिंद सिंह रंधावा के नेतृत्व में पर्यावरण बचाओ पर एक नाटक का आयोजन किया गया जिसके माध्यम से उन्होंने सभी को यह संदेश दिया कि किस तरह से हमारी धरती का पर्यावरण प्रदूषित होता जा रहा है और हमें इस प्रदूषित हो रहे पर्यावरण को बचाने के लिए विशेष प्रयास करने होंगे ताकि आने वाले समय के अंदर हमारी आने वाली पीढ़ियों को पर्यावरण से संबंधित किसी भी समस्या का सामना न करना पड़ सके। इसके साथ ही इस तीन दिवसीय कार्यक्रम के दौरान अच्छा कार्य करने वाले स्वयंसेवकों को प्रमाण पत्र देकर सम्मानित भी किया गया। इस अवसर पर इस तीन दिवसीय कार्यक्रम की संयोजक व एन.एस.एस की कार्यक्रम अधिकारी डॉ.रिचा शर्मा ने कहा इसी तरह से एन.एस.एस की तरफ से आने वाले समय के अंदर भी विभिन्न तरह की गतिविधियों का अयोजन किया जाएगा ताकि समाज में एक सार्थक बदलाव लाया जा सके। कार्यक्रम के अंत में प्रो. स्वर्णजीत कौर के द्वारा आए हुए सभी अतिथियों का धन्यवाद किया गया।इस अवसर पर स्टाफ के अन्य सदस्य भी मौजूद थे।

विद्यार्थियों को नशा मुक्त व बेहतर जीवन की शपथ दिलाई नशे की लत के कारण लोगों की दुर्दशा को दिखाया गया डॉक्यूमेंट्री में

चण्डीगढ़ :

पोस्ट ग्रेजुएट गवर्नमेंट कॉलेज, सेक्टर 46 की ड्रग डीएडिक्शन सोसायटी ने छात्रों के लिए एक वृत्तचित्र स्क्रीनिंग और शपथ ग्रहण समारोह का आयोजन किया। डॉक्यूमेंट्री का शीर्षक नशा : शहर, कस्बा और बर्बादी था। डॉक्यूमेंट्री में नशे की लत के कारण लोगों की दुर्दशा को दिखाया गया है। इसने विभिन्न कारकों पर प्रकाश डाला जो नशीली दवाओं के दुरुपयोग की आदत को जन्म दे सकते हैं। महाविद्यालय की प्राचार्य डॉ. आभा सुदर्शन ने विद्यार्थियों को नशा मुक्त व बेहतर जीवन की शपथ दिलाई।उन्होंने नशीली दवाओं से दूर रहने और जरूरत पड़ने पर पेशेवरों और कॉलेज के शिक्षकों की मदद लेने की आवश्यकता पर जोर दिया। कार्यक्रम का आयोजन प्रभारी रिपन ग्रोवर ने किया।

Seminar “Defence & Warfare: Emerging Paradigms” organized at P U

Department of Defence and National Security Studies (DDNSS), Panjab University and Panjab University Institute of Social Sciences Education and Research (PU-ISSER) in collaboration with Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) organised a Seminar on June 8, 2022. The Seminar on the theme “Defence & Warfare: Emerging Paradigms” was held at ICSSR Complex, Panjab University, Sector 14, Chandigarh.

The Key Speakers of the Seminar were Col. Nitn Chandra (retd.) and Maj. Gen. Amarjit Singh (retd.). Col. Nitin Chandra spoke on Space based Imagery Intelligence (IMINT) signatures of Military Targets. Maj. Gen. Amarjit spoke about the sixth generation of Warfare, the current way of conducting warfare as we see around us today. 

Dr. Jaskaran Waraich, Chairperson of Department of Defence and National Security Studies, Panjab University welcomed the delegation and introduced the theme. Prof. Sanjay Kaushik, Director of Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) delivered the opening remarks. He highlighted the relevance of the topics to be discussed and spoke about how the defence and security paradigms are changing across the world. 

Col. Chandra explained how satellite imagery is used to identify enemy military targets. He also explained how some of this imagery may be misinterpreted and discussed the best practices on how to analyse satellite imagery using open source systems 

Gen. Amarjit explained how warfare, now, is not limited to Kinetic means anymore but is increasingly involving NBIC(Nano, Bio, Info, Cognitive) Sciences. Everyone, be it a soldier or an ordinary citizen, is the target of the 6th generation warfare and the war is fought by altering the way of thinking of people by using psychological tools and weaponization of brain sciences. According to him, the military power construct of the world is changing from economic to Data (Information) and Hyper Connectivity. 

The Seminar concluded with vote of thanks by Prof. Simrit Kahlon. who thanked the key speakers for their invaluable inputs and highlighted the importance of the topics discussed at the Seminar. 

Large Number of PU Students Participated in an Essay Writing over “Protecting Our Environment”

On the occasion of WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY, the Department of Ancient Indian History, Culture & Archaeology, Panjab University, Chandigarh organized an essay writing competition for the M.A. students of the department. The theme was “Protecting our environment”.  A large number of students participated.

·        Mr. Sahil, student of M.A. 4th Semester was judged as the best.

·        Miss Priyaal Sharma, student of M.A. 2nd Semester got the second position.

·        Mr. Nilay Malik, student of M.A. 2nd Semester got the third position.

·        Mr. Ankitesh Tiwari, student of M.A. 4th  Semester got the third position.

The competition was held to create awareness about ecology and environment.

स्वच्छता जागरुकता को लेकर एन.एस.एस स्वयं सेवकों ने किया नुक्कड़ नाटक

पंजाब यूनिवर्सिटी, चंडीगढ़ में विश्व पर्यावरण दिवस के उपलक्ष में आयोजित तीन दिवसीय कार्यक्रम के दूसरे दिन एन.एस.एस के स्वयंसेवकों के द्वारा यूनिवर्सिटी स्कूल ऑफ ओपन लर्निंग से लेकर स्टूडेंट सेंटर तक स्वच्छता जागरूकता रैली का आयोजन किया गया।जिसमें सभी स्वयंसेवकों ने बढ़ चढ़कर भाग लिया और जोश भरे नारों के साथ जनता को साफ सफाई रखने के लिए प्रेरित किया।

 इस रैली के उपरांत सभी स्वयंसेवकों के द्वारा हरगोबिंद सिंह रंधावा के नेतृत्व में स्टूडेंट सेंटर पर एक नुक्कड़ नाटक का आयोजन किया गया। जोकि स्वच्छता जागरूकता पर आधारित था। इस नुक्कड़ नाटक को देखने के लिए दूरदराज के स्कूलों से विद्यार्थी पहुंचे। जिन्होंने इस नुक्कड़ नाटक के माध्यम से अपने आसपास के वातावरण को स्वच्छ किस तरह से रखा जा सकता है। इसके बारे में जानकारी प्राप्त की। इस अवसर पर इस तीन दिवसीय विशेष कार्यक्रम के मुख्य संयोजक व एन.एस.एस के कार्यक्रम अधिकारी डॉ. रिचा शर्मा के द्वारा एन.एस.एस के सभी स्वयंसेवकों की प्रशंसा की।

 उन्होंने कहा कि हमें अपने चारों और स्वच्छता जागरूकता को लेकर अभियान चलाने की जरूरत है ताकि आने वाले समय के अंदर हमारे भारत देश का वातावरण पूरी तरह से स्वच्छ बन सके और विश्व स्तर पर भारत की एक स्वच्छ राष्ट्र के रूप में विशेष पहचान बन पाए।

 उन्होंने जानकारी देते हुए बताया कि इसी तरह से कल भी पर्यावरण बचाव को लेकर एक नाटक का आयोजन किया जाएगा जिसके माध्यम से जनता को यह बताने का प्रयास किया जाएगा कि पर्यावरण का बचाव हमारे लिए कितना ज्यादा महत्वपूर्ण है। इस अवसर पर स्टाफ के अन्य सदस्य भी मौजूद थे।

ध्यान शिविर का आयोजन

आज दिनांक 7 जून 2022 को पंजाब विश्वविद्यालय चंडीगढ़ के हिंदी विभाग द्वारा ध्यान योग शिविर का आयोजन किया गया। जिसमें प्रसिद्ध जैन आचार्य अरविंद मुनि पधारे। इस शिविर में हिंदी विभाग के समस्त छात्रगण एवं शोधार्थीगण के अतिरिक्त संस्कृत विभाग के शोधार्थियों ने भी भाग लिया। सर्वप्रथम शिविर का आरंभ करते हुए अरविंद मुनि ने ध्यान योग के महत्व एवं आवश्यकता पर प्रकाश डाला। तत्पश्चात ध्यान योग के व्यवहारिक पक्ष से जुड़ी क्रियाओं का अभ्यास शिविर में भाग लेने वाले समस्त प्रतिभागियों से करवाया। विद्यार्थीगण अभ्यास से संतुष्ट हुए और उन्होंने प्रतिदिन ध्यान योग करने का संकल्प लिया। इस शिविर में एसोसिएट डी.एस.डब्ल्यू प्रोफेसर अशोक कुमार एवं प्रोफेसर नीरजा सूद उपस्थित रहे। विभागाध्यक्ष बैजनाथ प्रसाद ने आचार्य अरविंद मुनि के प्रति आभार प्रकट करते हुए धन्यवाद ज्ञापन किया।
