The Food Safety Administration, Health Department, U.T. Chandigarh along with third Party Auditor appointed by FSSAI audited the Campus “Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh on the set parameters as defined by the FSSAI under the initiative “Eat Right Campus” by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India. The said college made the full compliance as per the report and got certified as first Eat Right Campus of U.T. Chandigarh. The Director Health & Family Welfare, U.T. Chandigarh Dr. G. Dewan today honorfirst Eat Right Campus Award of U.T. Chandigarh to Professor Dr. Salil Sharma on the behalf of Dr. Anita Kaushal Principal, Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh.

Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India initiated an initiative “Eat Right Campus” to promote safe, healthy and sustainable food in campuses such as academic institutes, workplace, and hospitals across the country. People spend majority of their time outside their homes and consume at least one meal in their canteens/ cafeterias. Campuses need to be more conscious and mindful of their students/ employees health due to growing of lifestyle disorders combined with rising incidence of diet related diseases. It is important for a campus to ensure availability of safe food and healthy diets in their premises. Eat Right Campus initiative of FSSAI provides a unique opportunity to showcase their efforts around people health and well-being, but also helps in setting an example about the best practices towards availability of safe and hygienic food.

PU-NSS volunteers joins Pulse Polio Drive with Chandigarh Administration

                   NSS volunteers from Panjab University, Chandigarh participated in Pulse Polio Drive of Chandigarh Administration from 19th January to 21st January, 2020.


                   The drive was conducted in the Sectors of 14, 15, 16 & 17.    40 NSS Volunteers attended the training session at Sector-16 organized by Chandigarh administration with Dr. Meenu Kapila. The volunteers queries of how to immunise the children of age upto 5years were addressed. The volunteers joined the drive on field from 19th which lasted upto 21st January, 2020. The Volunteers for drive narrated that it was wonderful experience to serve the community. Dr. Navdeep Sharma NSS Programme Coordinator, Panjab University congratulated the Volunteers for selfless efforts for community service in the end of the Polio campaign at Health Center, Sector-14.


                   Dr. Meenu Medical Officer of drive appreciated the efforts of all NSS Volunteers and thanked Mr. Binesh Bhatia who coordinated through out the campaign for smooth conduct of Polio drive between volunteers and administration.

                   NSS volunteers were keen to join the next Polio campaign with Chandigarh Administration to immunise the children with great enthusiasm.

7 Day Economics Research Programme concluded at PU

                   A seven day short-term course on “Advanced Techniques in Economics Research” in collaboration with Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC), Panjab University (P.U.), Chandigarh concluded today in the Department of Economics, PU.

                   Professor S.K. Tomar, Director, Human Resource Development Centre, P.U., Chandigarh accompanied the Chairman of Department of Economics    S.P. Padhi to attend the valedictory address delivered by Prof. Sunil Kumar, Faculty of Economics, South Asian University, New Delhi.

                   24 faculty members from various Universities and Colleges within India and Nepal attended the course. The participants were trained with Advanced Econometric Techniques in the area of Applied Economics Research. The faculty of the Department of Economics along-with the faculty from BITS PILANI as well as  Madras Institute of  Development Studies acted as Resource Persons during the course. Professor S.P. Padhi, Chairperson and Dr. Nitin Arora of the Department of Economics jointly coordinated the course.

21st INDO-US symposium-cum-workshop on Applications of Laser Flow Cytometry in Biomedical Research

                   The Department of Biotechnology, Panjab University, Chandigarh is going to organize 21st INDO-US symposium-cum-workshop on Applications of Laser Flow Cytometry in Biomedical Research on 2-5 February, 2020 in collaboration with Trust for Education and Training in Cytometry (TETC) Live Education Task Force, International Society for Advancement of Cytometry (LETF-ISAC).

                   Delegate and speakers from different countries such as USA, UK, France, and others are coming in this workshop to interact with young participants for giving them spark to use this technology for their research projects.

Expert Talk on “SAP ERP and Emerging Industry Trends”

                   Mr. Ashish Verma, Senior SAP Consultant, Cognizant, Bangalore, Karnataka delivered a talk on “SAP ERP and Emerging Industry Trends” at Information Technology, University Institute of Engineering and Technology  (UIET), Panjab University, Chandigarh, here today. The talk began with an introduction to SAP ERP and where it stands in market today. He discussed other ERP players in the market. The main focus of the talk was on SAP’s proprietary database: HANA. The expert emphasized on SAP Leonardo that enables users to leverage future-facing technologies like the Internet of Things, machine learning, blockchain, analytics, and Big Data. SAP technical advancements were also covered. He also talked about the career opportunities in SAP for professionals. The lecture was organized by Dr. Neelam Goel, Assistant Professor under the guidance of Dr. Savita Gupta, Director, UIET.

                     The talk was attended by 161 participants including faculty members, technical staff, research scholars, masters students and undergraduate students.

Akshi Goyal selected for Newton Bhabha PhD Placement Programme 2019-2020

                        Akshi Goyal, Ph.D. Research Scholar from Panjab University under supervision of Dr. Suman Mor, Associate Professor, Department of Environment Studies, Panjab University and Dr. Ravindra Khaiwal, Additional Professor, Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health, PGIMER has been selected for Newton Bhabha PhD Placement Programme 2019-2020.

            The British Council – India, the Department of Science and Technology (DST), the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), India and Indian Higher Education Institutions recently announced the results for Newton Bhabha PhD Placement Programme 2019-2020. The Newton-Bhabha Fund offers an opportunity for UK and Indian PhD scholars to spend a period of their study (up to two to four months) in Indian and UK higher education institutions.

            The supervisor from the host institute i.e. University of Worcester are one of the global experts in the field of aerobiological research. The proposed PhD placement work will allow to find the variability of the urban climate in response to the land cover type. As, increase in temperature, changes in land-cover and shifts in the weather pattern have shown synergistic effect on dispersal and transportation of aeroallergens.

            The proposed placement will scientifically enhance the Ph.D. outcomes as it helps to identify the emission sources of pollens using back trajectory model along with WRF model. Moreover, this will help in building the relationship between emission area and its surroundings with airborne pollens concentration and to predict the dispersion of airborne pollen level in under-monitored areas. Better understanding of spatial variability of urban climate and pollens will help in assessment of pollen dispersion and its exposure level. The current research will allow her to better assess the future risks so that society can prepare better in order to reduce health burden.

            The proposed placement will further enhance the scope of study as it will allow her to scale up the study from regional level to national scale in future. Moreover, under this placement programme, she will develop individual capacity through international training and development opportunities.

‘परीक्षा पे चर्चा’ में मोदी ने दिये छात्रों को तनाव मुक्त रहने के मंत्र

पीएम मोदी ने बच्चों से परीक्षा के तनाव को दूर रखने, तकनीक का सही उपयोग, शिक्षा का महत्व जैसे विषयों पर चर्चा की. घर में एक कमरा टेक्नॉलजी मुक्त हो जिसमें अपने परिवार के साथ भी कुछ वक्त बितायेँ।

प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी दिल्ली के तालकटोरा स्टेडियम में छात्रों के साथ ‘परीक्षा पे चर्चा’ की. इस दौरान पीएम मोदी से देश भर के छात्रों से सवाल किए जिनके उन्होंने जवाब दिए. पीएम मोदी ने बच्चों से परीक्षा के तनाव को दूर रखने, तकनीक का सही उपयोग, शिक्षा का महत्व जैसे विषयों पर चर्चा की. बता दें ‘परीक्षा पे चर्चा का यह तीसरा संस्करण था’. 

पीएम मोदी ने छात्रों से कहा, ‘फिर एक बार आपका यह दोस्त आपके बीच में है. सबसे पहले मैं आपको नववर्ष 2020 की हार्दिक शुभकामनाएं देता हूं’. उन्होंने कहा, ‘मुझे लगा आपके माता-पिता का बोझ थोड़ा हल्का करना चाहिए’ पीएम मोदी ने कहा ‘छात्रों से संवाद करके मुझे बहुत आनंद आता है. यह कार्यक्रम दिल को छू लेने वाला है’  

प्रधान मंत्री मोदी ने एक सवाल के जवाब में कहा क घर में एक कमरा टेक्नॉलजी मुक्त हो जिसमें अपने परिवार के साथ भी कुछ वक्त बिताना चाहिए यह सबसे अधिक तनाव मुक्त करने वाला समय होगा।जहां आप सोशल मीडिया इंटरनेट इत्यादि से दूर अपने परिवार के सान्निध्य में बैठ कर कुछ समय बिताएँगे, जब सारा परिवार स कमरे में होगा तो परिवार आपस में एक दूसरे को अधिक समझेगा आप उतना ही तनाव मुक्त हो अपने लक्ष्य की ओर अग्रसर होंगे।

‘यह महत्वपूर्ण दशक है’ 
पीएम मोदी ने कहा, ‘2020 सिर्फ नया वर्ष नहीं है, यह नया दशक भी है. यह दशक आपके लिए जितना महत्वपूर्ण है, उतना ही देश के लिए भी महत्वपूर्ण है. इस दशक में देश जो भी करेगा, उसमें इस समय जो 10वीं, 12वीं के विद्यार्थी हैं, उनका बहुत योगदान रहेगा’

परीक्षा जीवन नहीं है
प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा, ‘हम विफलताओं से भी सफलता की शिक्षा पा सकते हैं. हर प्रयास में हम उत्साह भर सकते हैं और किसी चीज में आप विफल हो गए तो उसका मतलब है कि अब आप सफलता की ओर चल पड़े हो.’ 

उन्होंने कहा, ‘जाने अनजाने में हम उस दिशा में चल पड़े हैं जहां सफलता-विफलता का मुख्य बिंदु कुछ विशेष परीक्षाओं में हासिल किए गए मार्क्स बन गए हैं. इसकी वजह से मन में यही रहता है कि एक बार मार्क्स ले आऊं बाकी सब बाद में करूंगा. केवल परीक्षा के अंक ही जिंदगी नहीं हैं. कोई एक परीक्षा पूरी जिंदगी नहीं है. ये एक महत्वपूर्ण पड़ाव है, लेकिन यही सब कुछ है, ऐसा नहीं मानना चाहिए.’

मानव संसाधन विकास मंत्रालय ने उन छात्रों का चयन किया है जो पांच विषयों पर उनके द्वारा प्रस्तुत निबंधों के आधार पर प्रधानमंत्री से सवाल पूछेंगे। ​​अधिकारियों ने बताया कि कार्यक्रम सुबह करीब 11 बजे शुरू होगा और यूट्यूब पर सीधा प्रसारण किया जाएगा।

नई दिल्ली: प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी आज छात्रों के साथ ‘परीक्षा पे चर्चा’ करने जा रहे हैं. इसमें छात्र, शिक्षक, अभिभावक हिस्सा लेंगे. परीक्षा पे चर्चा सुबह 11 बजे तालकटोरा स्टेडियम में होगी. इस कार्यक्रम में इस बार खासतौर पर दिव्यांग छात्रों को प्रधानमंत्री से अपने मन की बात कहने व प्रश्न पूछने का अवसर मिलेगा. परीक्षा पे चर्चा का यह तीसरा संस्करण है. इस कार्यक्रम में छात्रों के पास यह सुविधा होती है कि वे अपना सवाल सीधे प्रधानमंत्री को भेज सकते हैं. यह कार्यक्रम इस उद्देश्य से शुरू किया गया है कि छात्र तनावमुक्त होकर परीक्षा दे सकें.

इस बार प्रधानमंत्री यहां दिव्यांग छात्रों से विशेष तौर पर चर्चा करेंगे. उन्हें यहां लाने और उनके बैठने की विशेष व्यवस्था की गई है. केंद्रीय मानव संसाधन विकास मंत्री रमेश पोखरियाल निशंक के अनुसार, दिव्यांग छात्रों ने इस कार्यक्रम में विशेष रूप से ज्यादा रुचि ली है. निशंक ने बताया कि दिव्यांग छात्र सीधे प्रधानमंत्री के कार्यक्रम से जुड़ रहे हैं और ये छात्र प्रधानमंत्री के साथ सीधा संवाद करेंगे. निशंक ने कहा कि प्रधानमंत्री मोदी चाहते हैं कि छात्रों की परीक्षाएं तनावमुक्त हों, ताकि सभी विद्यार्थी अपना सर्वश्रेष्ठ प्रदर्शन करें.

अपने वीडियो संदेश में निशंक ने कहा, “मैं देशभर के सभी विद्यार्थियों और अभिभावकों से 20 जनवरी को परीक्षा पर चर्चा-2020 कार्यक्रम से जुड़ने का आह्वान करता हूं.” मानव संसाधन विकास राज्यमंत्री संजय धोत्रे ने ‘परीक्षा पे चर्चा’ कार्यक्रम के मद्देनजर ओडिशा, असम, त्रिपुरा, पश्चिम बंगाल जाकर छात्रों के साथ विशेष मुलाकात की है. उन्होंने स्कूल में छात्रों के जीवन के विभिन्न पहलुओं पर छात्रों और शिक्षकों के साथ बातचीत की.

धोत्रे ने छात्रों से कहा कि वे किसी भी परीक्षा का दबाव न लें और 20 जनवरी को ‘परीक्षा पे चर्चा’ कार्यक्रम देखें, जिसमें प्रधानमंत्री देशभर के स्कूली छात्रों के साथ परीक्षा से संबंधित मुद्दों पर बातचीत करेंगे. छात्रों के बीच प्रधानमंत्री की यह चर्चा लोकप्रिय रही है, और यही कारण है कि पिछले वर्ष के मुकाबले 250 अधिक छात्रों ने इस बार परीक्षा पर चर्चा के लिए अपना पंजीकरण करवाया है.

प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी द्वारा ‘परीक्षा पे चर्चा’ कार्यक्रम में इस बार भारतीय छात्रों के अलावा बड़ी संख्या में दुनिया के अलग-अलग देशों में रह रहे छात्र भी जुड़ने जा रहे हैं. परीक्षा पे चर्चा का पहला संस्करण 16 फरवरी, 2018 को आयोजित हुआ था और इसका दूसरा संस्करण 29 जनवरी, 2019 को हुआ था.

राहुल विरोध, एकेडमी ऑफ आर्ट के डायरेक्टर योगेश सोमन को भारी पड़ा, भेजे गए लंबी छुट्टी पर

काँग्रेस के दबाव में काम करना उद्धव ठाकरे की सावरकर व हिन्दू विरोध की राजनीति के आगे नतमस्त्क होना ही दर्शाता है। अब जब भी चुनाव होंगे तो वह अपना कौन सा चेहरा ले कर मैदान में कूदेंगे, प्रखर हिन्दू वादी का या फिर सौम्य छद्म सेकुलर का।

 कभी बीजेपी के साथ सत्ता का सुख भोग रही शिवसेना सरकार में अपने सहयोगी दल कांग्रेस एनसीपी के हाथों कठपुतली बन चुकी है. यही वजह है कि वह ऐसे मामले पर खुलकर विरोध भी नहीं कर पा रही है. ठाकरे सरकार एक तरफ सिटीजनशिप अमेंडमेंट एक्ट के खिलाफ बोलने वालों को अच्छे-अच्छे पद बांट रही है तो वहीं दूसरी तरफ वो अब कांग्रेस एनसीपी के खिलाफ बोलने वालों पर ऐक्शन लेने के मूड में दिखाई दे रही है.

 कांग्रेस के पूर्व अध्यक्ष राहुल गांधी के बयान की निंदा करना मुंबई यूनिवर्सिटी में एकेडमी ऑफ आर्ट के डायरेक्टर योगेश सोमन को भारी पड़ा. योगेश सोमन ने वीर सावरकर को लेकर दिए राहुल गांधी के एक बयान की निंदा की थी. दरअसल राहुल गांधी ने झारखंड में चुनाव प्रचार के दौरान रेप की बढ़ती घटनाओं को लेकर रेप कैपिटल वाला बयान दिया था जिसके बाद बीजेपी और सहयोगी दलों ने मांग की थी कि राहुल गांधी इस बयान पर माफी मांगें.

माफी की मांग पर जवाब देते हुए राहुल गांधी ने एक कार्यक्रम के दौरान कहा था, ‘मेरा नाम राहुल सावरकर नहीं, राहुल गांधी है. मैं माफी नहीं मांगूंगा.’ सावरकर को लेकर राहुल गांधी के इसी बयान पर तीखी प्रतिक्रिया व्यक्त करते हुए योगेश सोमन ने 14 दिसंबर को सोशल मीडिया पर अपना एक वीडियो पोस्ट किया था. इस वीडियो में सोमन ने कहा था कि, ‘आप वास्तव में सावरकर नहीं हैं. सच तो यह है कि तुम सच्चे गांधी भी नहीं हो.’

इस पोस्ट को लेकर कांग्रेस एवं वामदलों से जुड़े छात्र संगठन सोमन की बर्खास्तगी की मांग पर अड़े थे. आखिरकार महाराष्ट्र में उद्धव ठाकरे सरकार के गठन के बाद मुंबई यूनिवर्सिटी के वाइस चांसलर सुहास पेडेनकर ने राहुल गांधी के खिलाफ बयान करने पर योगेश सोमन को जबरन छुट्टी पर भेजने के अलावा इस मामले में एक जांच कमेटी का भी गठन किया. यह जांच कमेटी सोमन पर लगे तमाम आरोपों की जांच करेगी. 

हालांकि इस पूरे विवाद पर योगेश सोमन ने जी मीडिया से अपना पक्ष रखते हुए कहा कि “पहले मैं सारे तथ्य जांच कमेटी के सामने रखूंगा और फिर मीडिया से बात करूंगा.” योगेश सोमन के खिलाफ इस कार्रवाई को बीजेपी ने दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण बताया. बीजेपी ने शिवसेना, कांग्रेस, एनसीपी से सवाल किया है कि योगेश सोमन के खिलाफ की गई कार्रवाई असहिष्णुता नहीं तो क्या है? 

लेकिन राज्य सरकार इस कार्रवाई को सही ठहरा रही है. ठाकरे सरकार में कैबिनेट मंत्री नवाब मलिक ने कहा कि महाराष्ट्र सरकार मे कार्यरत अधिकारी किसी दल या संगठन के विचार को प्रमोट करेंगे तो सरकार कठोर कार्रवाई करेगी. उसे सरकारी नौकरी छोड़नी पड़ेगी. इस पूरे मामले में सावरकर की विचारधारा में यकीन रखने वाली शिवसेना ने चुप्पी साध रखी है. जाहिर है कि कभी बीजेपी के साथ सत्ता का सुख भोग रही शिवसेना सरकार में अपने सहयोगी दल कांग्रेस एनसीपी के हाथों कठपुतली बन चुकी है. यही वजह है कि वह ऐसे मामले पर खुलकर विरोध भी नहीं कर पा रही है.

Dr. NavneetKaur, Professor, Department of Chemistry, Panjab University, Chandigarh was awarded with Professor D. V. S. Jain Research Award (2018) which includes a citation and award amount of Rs. 30,000while Dr. NishimaWangoo, Assistant Professor from University Institute of Engineering & Technology, PU was awarded with Smt. PremLata Jain Research Award (2018)which included a citation and award amount of Rs. 15,000.These awards were presented by Smt. PremLata Jain,during the 4th Best Research Award Ceremony, organized by Department of Chemistry, on behalf of Smt. PremLata and Professor D V S Jain Research Foundation,here today.

Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh congratulated the awardees, and exhorted other faculty members and young researchers to carry out meaningful research, not only for wider scientific reach but also for societal impact. PU VC expressed gratitude and appreciation towards the generous contribution ofRs. 50 lakhs endowment fund donated by Prof. Jain’s family.Prof. Raj Kumar believes that such endowment funds will really support and accelerate the university research activities in multifaceted ways. Smt. Jain also bestowed upon the Best Researcher and Best Publication awardees.

The six Best Publication awards for the year 2018, for publication of outstanding research articles with impact factor more than 5.0, were presented to Prof. Parveen Rishi (Microbiology), Dr. NishimaWangoo (Chemsitry), Prof. G. R. Chaudhary (Chemistry), Dr. Rohit Kumar Sharma (Chemistry) and Prof. NavneetKaur (Chemistry). The best publication awards included a citation and award amount of Rs. 5,000 for each awardee. The certificates of appreciation for publishing high impact papers in the year 2018 were bestowed upon Dr. SavitaChaudhary (Chemistry), Prof. RajatSandhir (Biochemistry), Prof. Amarjit Singh Naura (Biochemistry), Dr. VijayataChadha (Nuclear Medicine) and Dr. P. Natarajan (Chemsitry).

Earlier, Prof. K. N. Singh, Chairman briefed about the genesis objectives of Smt. PremLata and Professor D V S Jain Research Foundation. This foundation has been created based on the endowment funddonated by Professor D.V.S. Jain. The main objective of this foundation is to promote and nurture scientific research in Panjab University. The foundation has initiated scientific programs such as Best Researcher Awards, Best Publication Awards, Bright-Begin Research Grant, Conceptual Consolidation in Innovative Areas Lecture Series, Fellowships for research scholars and Book fund.

                        The participants remembered and paid homage to Prof. D.V.S. Jain who passed away in October 2019.
