IMPORTANCE OF PRINT MEDIA IN THE DIGITAL AGE

A panel discussion. School of Communication Studies, Panjab University Chandigarh. Chandigarh, April 13: The Young Communicators Club (YCC) of the School of Communication Studies (SCS), Panjab University, and the Public Relations Council of India organised a panel discussion on the ‘Importance of Print Media in the Digital Age.’. The panel consisted of Mr. Nitin Sharma, Special Correspondent at Indian Express, Ms. Neha Sharma, Special Correspondent at PTC News and Ms. Shayda Bano, Deputy Editor at Dainik Bhaskar.The event was moderated by Dr. Sumedha Singh, Chairperson, School of Communication Studies.
The event commenced with a welcome note by the Student Co-Chair, followed by a moderated session with the panelists. During the discussion, Mr. Sharma shared anecdotes from his years of experience in the industry. He also appreciated how young journalists come prepared with a diverse skillset and have knowledge about the technical aspects of the profession.
On the topic of discussion, Ms. Neha Sharma, asserted that print media and digital media go hand in hand, and that it’s a time for convergence of both. She further added that the coexistence of both would benefit the industry.
Ms. Shayda Bano , spoke about the importance of print media in today’s day and age. She said that discussions about the role of print media too often have been framed by the mindset that “print is dead”. She argued that print is still alive and flourishing.
The discussion was followed by an interactive session between the panelists and the audience. The panelists answered the questions asked by the students with delight and enthusiasm. The event concluded with the student Co-Chair of the club expressing gratitude and hoping to meet the panelists in the future.
