Panjab University (PU) has bagged the first national rank in Innovation, Start-up and Entrepreneurship Development among the government and aided (state-run and deemed) universities in the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA). The announcement was made in Delhi today.
ARIIA is the official ranking of the Government of India to rank all the major higher educational institutions in India on indicators related to Innovation, Start-up and Entrepreneurship Development amongst the students and faculties. ARIIA critically evaluate institutions on parameters like patent filing and granted, number of registered students and faculty start-ups, fund generation by incubated start-ups, specialised infrastructure created by institutions to promote innovation and entrepreneurship, etc. As many as 1,438 Institutes from all states participated in various categories of the ranking.
PU Vice Chancellor Prof. Raj Kumar has expressed his happiness and congratulated the faculty and staff of PU. “I am glad to know that despite the record number of entries for Atal ranking this year, PU not only improved on its rank from last year but in fact has topped the list among the state universities. This speaks about the efforts put in by the faculty and staff of the University towards the campaign of innovation which we had started three years back. I congratulate all the stakeholders and at the same time appeal to them to not be complacent and maintain the streak in the coming years too”, he added.
PU Director (IQAC) Prof. Ashish Jain, said, “We at IQAC are very happy with the outcome of Atal ranking this year. Panjab University is a unique university that carries its heritage and futuristic innovation on its shoulders with equal ease and responsibilities. It’s a moment of rejoice for all of us here at PU.”
PU adopts all initiatives for Innovation and Entrepreneurship as per norms of the Ministry of Education. The university has well established Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) at University Institute of Engineering and Technology and University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences. BioNest, Cluster Innovation Centre, Entrepreneurship Development Centre, Design Innovation Centre, Technology Enabling Centres, Centre for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Centre for Industry Institute Partnership Programme, DST – Centre for Policy Research and Centre for Advanced Studies in Zoology have remained its strongest pillars for innovation, incubation, startup and entrepreneurship.
