Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Sh. Rattan LalKatariahas submitted a statement in the Parliament with reference to the RashtriyaVayoshri Yojana (RVY) in the country.The statement was submitted in reply to theunstarred questions raised in Lok Sabha. RVY scheme was launched in 2017 for providing Physical Aids and Assisted-living Devices for Senior citizens belonging to BPL category.
Sh. Rattan Lal Kattariahighlighted that the total number of distribution camps organised under the scheme during the last four years (including current year)are 175. He further stated that the scheme in these 4 years has benefitted 1,64,888 senior citizens spread across 28 states and 8 Union Territories. The cumulative expense incurred duringthis period for providing these aids and assisted living devices amounts to Rs. 106.98 crores.
Mr. Kataria added that the estimated expenditure for the scheme during the financial year 2021-22 is Rs. 50 crore, which is almost 3 times compared to the estimated expenditure in FY20-21. He further added that though RVY camps were postponed during the coronavirus pandemic for ensuring safety of beneficiaries, however camps have resumed w.e.f. 19.11.2020 and are being held by following COVID-19 related safety measures.
